Head and Neck Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin and fluorouracil, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Gefitinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Giving cisplatin, fluorouracil, and gefitinib together with radiation therapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects of giving cisplatin, fluorouracil, and gefitinib together with hyperfractionated radiation therapy and to see how well they work in treating patients with locally advanced head and neck cancer.

Study of Pemetrexed and Bevacizumab in Patients With Head and Neck Cancer

Cancer

The purpose of this study is to determine if the combination of two new drugs pemetrexed (Alimta) and bevacizumab (Avastin) can increase the effectiveness of treatment for head and neck cancer. Currently pemetrexed is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for another type of cancer, mesothelioma, but it is not approved for head and neck cancer.

Cancer

The purpose of this study is to determine if the addition of a unique targeted agent called Cetuximab (also known as "C225" and "Erbitux") can increase the effectiveness of standard treatment with chemotherapy and radiation.

C-TPF in Patients With Newly Diagnosed Locally Advanced Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and...

Head and Neck Neoplasms

The purpose of this research study is to determine the safest and most effective dose of 5-FU that can be given with docetaxel (Taxotere), Cisplatin and cetuximab to patients with newly diagnosed locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. We will also be studying the toxicity of this regimen of 4 drugs and the tumor response.

Bevacizumab, Docetaxel, and Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Stage III or Stage IV Head...

Head and Neck Cancer

RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Bevacizumab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as docetaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Giving bevacizumab together with docetaxel and radiation therapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving bevacizumab together with docetaxel and radiation therapy works in treating patients with stage III or stage IV head and neck cancer.

A Study for Patients With Head and Neck Cancer

Head and Neck Neoplasms

This study will compare the effects of pemetrexed plus cisplatin versus cisplatin alone in head and neck cancer patients.

Randomized Controlled Trial of Bipolar Versus Ultrasonic Hemostasis Techniques in Thyroidectomy...

Head and Neck Cancer

RATIONALE: The use of bipolar energy sealing system or ultrasonic coagulation for hemostasis during thyroidectomy may reduce blood loss and hypocalcemia and may be more cost-effective.
