Dermoscopy Augmented Histology Trial

MelanomaPigmented Lesions

Background: Melanoma mortality remains almost stable with a 0.2-1.5% increase annually despite rapid growth in reported melanoma incidence of 2.5-8.6% per year. Part of this discrepancy could be explained by overdiagnosis of melanoma, which may be as high as 54%. Histopathology is considered the gold standard diagnosis for melanocytic lesions despite only a moderately good intra- and inter-rater reliability. A possible explanation of why the inter-rater reliability is suboptimal could be that pathologists are inexperienced, extra cautious, or lack sufficient information needed for a reliable diagnosis. It has been hypothesized that the horizontal overview of a lesion through dermoscopy combined with clinical information on a given tumor, enables the generation of a tentative diagnosis that the pathologists can use to actively search for signs of pathology. Former research shows that clinicians' competence in dermoscopy can be improved by a short learning intervention, but that these skills aren't sustainable Aim: The aim of this study is to examine how acquired basic skills in dermoscopy of pigmented lesions and access to clinical images of a lesion, affect pathologists' confidence, accuracy and inter-rater reliability when interpreting melanocytic lesions.

Superb Microvascular Intraocular Tumor Imaging Study (SMITIS)

Ocular Tumor

The diagnosis and monitoring of intraocular tumors are based on multimodal imaging in addition to the clinical examination (ultra-widefield retinal imaging, echography, angiography). Nevertheless, it may be difficult in cases of retinal hemorrhage, small tumor size or atypical presentation. The study of microvascular flow (Superb Microvascular Imaging, SMI) of intraocular tumors could improve the confidence of differential diagnosis when evaluating these suspicious lesions, or even determine whether a lesion is benign or malignant by describing the vascularization of the lesion. The investigators propose to study the microvascular flow patterns of intraocular tumors prior to proton therapy.

Aberrant Helix Pomatia Agglutinin Binding Glycan Expression in Follicular Thyroid Tumours

Follicular Thyroid Cancer

Aberration of glycosylation is a hallmark of cancer cells, and plays an important role in oncogenesis and cancer progression, including metastasis. One of the markers of aberrant glycosylation (O-linked) is the binding of the lectin Helix pomatia agglutinin (HPA), which has been demonstrated in a wide range of human cancers, especially in tumours with a more aggressive phenotype. Data on the role of HPA within follicular neoplasms of the thyroid gland are currently lacking, therefore we sought to investigate possible changes in cell surface glycosylation associated with this type of neoplasms.

Quality of Life and Patient Needs in Advanced High Grade Gliomas

Quality of LifeBrain Tumor3 more

There is limited knowledge regarding the quality of life and needs of patients with advanced high grade gliomas, especially during the end of life. By doing this research, we are able to assess caregiver and patient symptoms and needs during the end of life phase of patients with brain tumors.

Predictive Imaging Features in Renal Cell Carcinoma

Renal Malignant Tumor

The investigators aimed to evaluate the role of some findings that can be detected in preoperative radiological imaging of kidney masses in predicting locally advanced disease.

Prognostic Values of Inflammation-based Indices in Gastric Cancer

Gastric Cancer

This study aims to evaluate the prognostic values of preoperative inflammation-based indices in patients undergoing potentially curative resection of gastric cancer.

HPV and Male Homosexuality in General Practice?

Papilloma Viral Infection

The main objective of this study is to find out whether young MSM (men who have sex with men) believe it is important for their GP to be informed of their sexual orientation, in order to improve their clinical, especially with HPV vaccination. The secondary objective is to analyze the state of knowledge about the HPV vaccine and the value of HPV vaccine in this target population.

Cardiac and Vascular Changes in Pheochromocytoma and Paraganglioma

PheochromocytomaParaganglioma1 more

PHEOCHROMOCYTOMA (PCC)/ PARAGANGLIOMA are catecholamine secreting tumors with varied manifestations. Besides hypertension, PCC patients may have subclinical to overt cardiac and vascular dysfunction, which are important to recognize to minimize perioperative morbidity and mortality. Cardiovascular (CV) dysfunction can be in the form of hypertension, left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, dysrhythmias, angina and Myocardial infarction. Literature search revealed a few retrospective and a few prospective studies, including one prospective follow up study conducted at SGPGIMS to document CV changes in PCC. Our institutional study was the first to document the nature and extent of CV dysfunction and cardiomyopathy and their reversal after surgical cure. The studies revealed that PCC patients had significantly higher LV mass index, higher LV diastolic dysfunction, subclinical impaired LV systolic function. Earlier studies postulated apparent improvement in various cardiac indices even with selective α-blockade and continued after surgical cure, with near normalization at 3 -6 months postoperatively. Detailed cardiac and vascular evaluation in PCC patients can be of help in preoperative optimization of cardiac risk and may provide prognostic information The literature on PCC-mediated CV dysfunction and catecholamine cardiomyopathy is largely limited to case reports and retrospective studies, with few reports of their reversal after curative PCC operations. Whether the duration of disease influence the function of heart was not apparently addressed in earlier trials. Trials that established the differences in the degree of cardiac dysfunction between normotensive and hypertensive PCC patients involved smaller proportion of study subjects. Sub clinical changes in endomyocardium was presumed but not objectively assessed and hence its reversal after surgical cure is uncertain. The aim of this research is to study the cardiac and vascular changes in Pheochromocytoma/ Paraganglioma patients and their reversal following curative surgery

High-risk Breast Lesions: A Multicenter Retrospective Study

Premalignant Lesion

In this multicenter study, the goal was to document the excisional biopsy or follow-up results of high risk lesions diagnosed on image guided CNB/VAB, and evaluate the clinical, imaging and histologic features for associated malignancy risk. The possibility of upgrade related to histologic subtype, tissue sampling and other variables was also evaluated.

Optimising Molecular Radionuclide Therapy

Neuroendocrine TumorsHyperthyroidism2 more

This project will examine the role of the whole body, PET and SPECT imaging before, during and after radionuclide treatment for 177Lu-Dotatate therapy, whole body and SPECT imaging for 131-I for thyroid cancer therapy, and whole-body imaging for 131I for hyperthyroidism therapy. Whole-body and SPECT images will be linked to personal dosimeter readings to determine whether Current radiation protection advice for patients receiving radionuclide treatment is appropriate. Radiopharmaceutical retention and/or SUV change in patients undergoing repeated radionuclide treatments. Data combined from early (quantitative imaging) and late (whole-body dose rate measurements) could support individual treatment planning for patients undergoing repeated cycles of molecular therapy.
