Mean Platelet Volume and Its Relation to Risk Stratification of Myelodysplastic Syndromes

Myelodysplastic Syndromes

The myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a group of myeloid neoplasms characterized by abnormal differentiation and maturation of myeloid cells, reduced bone marrow (BM) function, and a genetic instability with enhanced risk to transform to secondary acute myeloid leukemia, AML

A Study on Association Between HR Genes and the HRD Status in Chinese Epithelial Ovarian Cancer...

Epithelial Ovarian CancerChinese5 more

The association between homologous recombination (HR) gene mutations and homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) status in Chinese epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) patients is little known. This study would recruit 400 Chinese EOC patients with known targeted gene mutations via a multi-panel testing of 27 genes, including BRCA1/BRCA2. All patients accept evaluation of HRD model, which is based on the loss of heterozygosity (LOH), telomere allele imbalance (TAI) and large-scale state transitions (LST). The mutated genes, HRD score model and their relationship with the prognosis, would provide a full description of for the Chinese EOC patients, and a potential explanation of platinum-resistance in such population.

Chemotherapy-related Cognitive Impairment and Acute Leukemia

Acute Myeloid Leukemia

This is an ancillary study of an intervention study (NCT04570709). The parent study is a single institution, feasibility trial of 20 (10 control and 10 intervention) patients with the primary objective of assessing feasibility, acceptability, and change in pre and post measures of symptoms, function, and quality of life by administering the Palliative and Collaborative Care InTervention (PACT). We will further assess cognitive function in the patients who participate in the control of the parent study.

Suction Drain in Axillary Lymph Node Dissection for Malignant Melanoma

Malignant Melanoma

Postoperative complications like seroma formation and wound site infection readily occur following completion axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) for malignant melanoma. We analyzed the impact of time-to-drain removal and drainage volume on seroma formation after ALND.

Long-term Evaluation of the Quality of Life of Former Patients Treated With Orthopedic Surgery,...

Osteosarcoma in Children

Surgery and radiation therapy play a major role in the treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors. Osteosarcomas, rhabdomyosarcomas, and Ewing tumors are the most common histologic types. Surgery may require multiple techniques and radiation therapy may be conformational, or more recently IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy). If surgery is possible, lower limb surgery is generally the recommended treatment, even if a poor functional result can be expected. The literature is very poor regarding the impact of radiotherapy on quality of life and functional results, mainly with the use of prosthetic materials. Tools such as the Toronto Extremity Salvage Score (TESS) are now available for self-assessment of functional outcomes. The presence of large cohorts such as FCCSS, COHOPER and SALTO facilitates these studies. The SF-36 is a short 36-question health questionnaire that consists of a generic, consistent, and easy-to-administer set of measures. These measures are based on self-report by patients and are now widely used by organizations managing the care of adult patients. The TESS Functional Questionnaire is a patient-completed self-questionnaire widely used for motor stimulation in patients with musculoskeletal tumors. This score is based on the definitions of handicap, impairment and handicap as documented by the World Health Organization (WHO). It includes 30 questions assessing overall function and daily activities. The final score varies from 0% to 100%, 100% being the best possible score. So far, several studies have reported the validation of TESS in Portuguese, Danish, Korean, Japanese and since this year in French. Indeed, the TESS questionnaire was validated in French by the study "Transcultural validation of TESS and MSTS questionnaires" promoted by the Nantes University Hospital.

Ocular Mysathenia Gravis Generalization

Ocular Myasthenia Gravis

Secondary ocular myasthenia gravis (OMG) generalization represents a pejorative evolution and no validated generalization prevention strategy exists. The aim of this observational study was to determine the percentage of patients with OMG generalization and identify factors predictive of that pejorative evolution. Data from patients with OMG registered in the Fondation Hospital A. de Rothschild database between January 1990 and January 2017 were collected. Among the 183 patients registered in this database, 151 patients with available informations were analyzed.

Establishment of the Human Intestinal and Salivary Microbiota Biobank - Oncologic Diseases

Non Small Cell Lung CancerMetastatic Melanoma

This is a prospective, clinical, multicentre study aimed to collect biological samples and study microbiota from subjects with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and metastatic melanoma. Microbiota is a complex consortium of microorganisms, located at the mucosal level (in particular intestinal, oral and vaginal) having a key role in human health and in the onset of several diseases. Microbiota alterations have been found in several diseases (gastrointestinal, metabolic, renal, oncological, gynaecological) The study will allow to: Provide biological samples (faeces, saliva, blood, urine) from oncologic patients to the first Italian microbiota biobank; Study microorganisms using different in vitro and in vivo techniques; Study the link between the microbiota and the disease. This study is part of the BIOMIS project (Project Code: ARS01_01220), presented as part of the "Avviso per la presentazione di progetti di ricerca industriale e sviluppo sperimentale nelle 12 aree di specializzazione individuate dal PNR 2015-2020" and admitted to funding under the National Operational Program "Ricerca e Innovazione" 2014-2020 by directorial decree of MIUR - Department for Higher Education and Research - n. 2298 of 12 September 2018. BIOMIS includes several clinical studies that enrol patients with different pathologies to collect and store biological samples and study microbiota.

Exploring Unmet Needs and Attitudes to Skin Self-examination in Melanoma Survivors

MelanomaStage I3 more

This is a prospective, multi-centred cohort study whereby the EUNASS Study questionnaire will be administered electronically to identify needs of melanoma survivors, the extent to which these needs are being met, and identify areas which have the greatest need for development. It will also evaluate behaviour in relation to sun protection and skin self-examination (SSE). It will be a self-completed questionnaire. Qualitative work using semi-structured interviews will explore the needs of melanoma survivors in greater depth, will present examples of potential interventions to improve SSE and explore factors that determine the likelihood of engaging in an intervention which can address unmet needs, such as improving SSE. Taken together, the data will provide the evidence base to inform the development of an intervention to improve SSE, which can subsequently be tested in secondary care services.
