A Qualitative Case Study of the Experiences of Children With Cancer as They Learn About Their Diagnosis...

Thousands of children are diagnosed with cancer each year, many of whom will achieve long term survival due to advances in treatments and technologies. However, when a child is first diagnosed, they are confronted with a wealth of new and unfamiliar medical information that they must integrate in order to understand their diagnosis and treatment plan. Little is yet known about how children with cancer experience learning about their diagnosis and treatment in the hospital setting, or the individuals and materials that may help to facilitate the child's developing understanding. This information could help to identify or guide educational and supportive child life interventions to help children with cancer better understand their illness and its treatment. This observational study will collect data about how children currently learn about their cancer diagnosis and treatment in the hospital setting. The interventions used do not seek to change the health outcomes of the participants in this study. The observational data collected may serve to improve how future patients learn about their cancer-related diagnosis.

Patient-Reported Outcome Questionnaire for Systemic Mastocytosis

The purpose of this study is to explore the key symptoms of individuals with systemic mastocytosis. Interviews of enrolled individuals will be conducted to learn about the disease symptoms and condition. The interview will last approximately 60 minutes and will be conducted by a trained interviewer, be audio-recorded (with patient consent), and all information provided by the patient will be treated confidentially and made anonymous so that it is non-identifiable. The interview may be conducted face-to-face, over the phone, or virtually via Skype, a free video conferencing program, depending upon the patient's geographic location. Patients will be compensated for their participating time. This is not a medication-related study, and no medication will be distributed or tested during this study. Participation in this study will not affect any treatment or assistance that a patient currently receives or may receive in the future.

Celiac disease (CD) is the most common chronic autoimmune enteropathy in Western Countries with an estimated prevalence ranging from 1:100 to 1:200. It is usually characterized by a benign course with clinical and histological remission, provided that a strict gluten-free diet (GFD) is followed by patients. Less frequently, CD can be characterized by a complicated course, when facing with a refractory disease (RCD) or with malignancies of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, namely lymphoma and adenocarcinoma of the small bowel (SB). Different studies estimated a relative risk (RR) for neoplastic GI complications in CD ranging from 2 to 40 and from 10 to 60 for primary gut lymphoma and adenocarcinoma, respectively. Although uncommon, the discussed malignancies has a severe prognosis, reflecting the need for an early diagnosis. This project aims to establish an enteroscopic approach to improve the diagnostic timing and survival of CD patients at risk to develop SB tumors.

Our aim is to assess the ability of scans to distinguish the organ of origin of pancreatic head malignant tumours and to predict the resectability based on the preoperative imaging. To achieve this, a retrospective review of the preoperative CT scans will be conducted for all patients with pancreatic head malignancy treated at the Peninsula Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) cancer unit between January 2006 till January 2014.

FDG-PET/CT Imaging as Early Predictor of DP

Lymphoma

In this study the investigators would like to describe FDG-PET/CT responses in patients who are receiving CART-19 immunotherapy for Follicular Lymphoma (FL), Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma (DLBCL), and Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) as part of UPCC #13413. Subjects will undergo two FDG-PET/CTs. One performed within 6 weeks of CART-19 infusion and a repeat scan at about 1 month after infusion.
