Arsenic Methylation Enzymes, Cigarette Metabolites, DNA Repair Enzymes, Inflammatory Factors and...

Urothelial Carcinoma

To investigate the relationship between arsenic methylation enzymes (AS3MT, PNP,GSTO1, and GSTO2) genetic polymorphism and UC risk. To explore the relationship between cigarettes metabolites (NNK, NNAL, HBA, NNAL-Gluc, O6-Methylguanine, and N7-Methylguanine) and UC risk. To examine the relationship between cigarette metabolic enzymes (CYP2A6, CYP2A13, and UGT2B7) genetic polymorphism and UC risk. To elucidate the relationship between DNA repair enzymes (MGMT, XPD, XRCC1, and XRCC3) gene polymorphism and 8-OHdG or between DNA repair enzymes and UC risk. To examine relationship between COX-2 (-1195G/A、-765G/C 和8473C/T), IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α gene polymorphism and 8-OHdG or between COX-2, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α gene polymorphism and UC risk. To examine the risk factors of the environment-environment, gene-environment, and gene-gene interaction on the risk of UC.

Study of STI571 in the Treatment of Patients With Idiopathic Hypereosinophilic Syndrome (HES) and...

Hypereosinophilic SyndromeChronic Eosinophilic Leukemia (CEL)1 more

The purpose of this study is to assess the clinical anti-proliferative activity of STI571 (Glivec®, Novartis, Pharma) in patients with HES defined as: Idiopathic Hypereosinophilic Syndrome (secondary HES), defined as a peripheral blood eosinophilia greater than 1,500 cells/µL for longer than 6 months, absence of other apparent aetiologies for eosinophilia and with or without signs and symptoms of organ involvement, irrespective to expression of any of imatinib targets (c-Kit receptor, PDGFR, bcr-abl receptor) on bone marrow cells. Familiar hypereosinophilia defined as a peripheral blood eosinophilia greater than 1,500 cells/µL for longer than 6 months, absence of other apparent aetiologies for eosinophilia and signs and symptoms of organ involvement, irrespective to expression of any of imatinib targets (c-Kit receptor, PDGFR, bcr-abl receptor) on bone marrow cells, and with a recognized or reported cases of hypereosinophilia in the patient's family. Chronic myeloproliferative disorder, defined as chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL) with the presence of blasts (>10%) in the bone marrow (BM), or the presence of immature eosinophils in different tissues, or an aggressive clinical course or the presence of clonal cytogenetic anomalies. Myeloproliferative disorder (MPD) with eosinophilia, eosinophilic leukemia or chronic myelomonocytic leukemia [myeloproliferative disorders/myelodysplastic syndromes (MPD/MDS)] with evidence of: t(5;12)(q33;p13) by cytogenetic or fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis, or ETV6/TEL-PDGFRB fusion transcript by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), or PDGFRB disruption, assessed or suspected, by other translocations with additional partner genes (H4, HIP1, CEV14 and Rab5) 5, or MPD/MDS who have constitutive activation of the gene for platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFRB) 6 by point mutations

A Study of Lymphangiogenesis in Colorectal and Nasopharyngeal Cancer

Colorectal CancerNasopharyngeal Cancer

To determine the association between LVD and clinico-pathologic variables in archived colorectal cancer and Nasopharyngeal carcinoma specimens To determine the association between VEGF-C,-D expression with COX-2 expression and clinico-pathologic variables in colorectal cancer and Nasopharyngeal carcinoma To determine the effect of celecoxib on lymphangiogenesis in Nasopharyngeal carcinoma Lymphangiogenesis and factors modulating lymphangiogenesis are associated with clinico-pathological outcome in Nasopharyngeal carcinoma and colorectal cancer. Celecoxib down-regulates lymphangiogenesis Archival colorectal cancer and Nasopharyngeal carcinoma tumor specimens will be obtained from the Department of Pathology. To determine the effect of celecoxib on lymphangiogenesis in Nasopharyngeal carcinoma, the investigators intend to analyze archived specimens collected in a previously conducted study. Colorectal tumor and nodal specimens and Nasopharyngeal carcinoma primary will be examined for MVD, LVD and growth factor expression using established haematoxylin and eosin and immunohistochemical techniques. Quantification of LVD and MVD shall be performed by two pathologists blinded to clinico-pathological variables using standardised methods.
