COVID-19The long-term consequences and sequelae of COVID-19 are still unclear; however, a vast number of elderly individuals have reported prolonged general weakness and muscular fatigue, leading to significant functional decline, increased risk of falls, morbidity and mortality rates. However, effective exercise intervention for such post-COVID-19 patients is still not well documented. Previous studies indicate that, in general, resistance training (RT) appears to be the most effective, safe method for combating the loss of muscle mass, strength and functional capacity. The aim of investigators study is to develop/adopt an effective intervention specifically for elderly (65+) people with post COVID-19 condition, experiencing balance disorder and muscle weakness, in order to help them return to pre-infection mobility and function. This will be a randomized controlled study with pre- and post-intervention assessment. The participants will be recruited from nursing homes, retirement facilities, Universities of the Third Age, primary health care units (POZs), in keeping with the inclusion criteria. The patients will be randomized to one of 2 groups: RT and control (no exercise). The participants' muscle strength under dynamic condition, balance (especially fall risk), body composition and quality of life will be assessed pre- and post-intervention. The investigators main research outcome - safe exercise protocols and interventions - will be developed to match the needs of the elderly in the current pandemic (and post-pandemic) scenario, in order to maintain/improve the health, balance, muscle strength, cognitive function and, consequently, quality of life of older adults affected by COVID-19.

Currently, there is no vaccine available for RSV prevention, and the use of the antiviral medication ribavirin is not widely recommended for children. Therefore, the primary treatment approach follows the general protocol for pneumonia, and oxygen therapy is recommended for all cases of pneumonia with respiratory failure. However, in children, the treatment of RSV and bacterial pneumonia remains supportive to prevent bacterial co-infection and respiratory failure. Probiotics have emerged as promising and safe options for supporting the treatment of acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) and reducing dependence on antibiotics in recent years. In this study, investigators propose that the direct administration of probiotics through a nasal spray can offer rapid and effective symptomatic treatment for children with pneumonia who require oxygen therapy due to RSV and bacterial co-infections. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of nasal-spraying probiotics containing spores of two bacterial strains, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus clausii (LiveSpo Navax), in preventing and supporting the treatment of severe pneumonia in children (who require oxygen therapy) caused by RSV infection and bacterial co-infection. Study population: The sample size was 100, and the study was conducted at the Vietnam National Children's Hospital. Description of Study Intervention: All 100 eligible patients were randomly divided into two groups (n = 50/each): Patients in the Control group received routine treatment and were administered 0.9% NaCl physiological saline 3 times/day, while the patients in the Navax group received LiveSpo Navax 3 times/day in addition to the same standard of care treatment. The standard treatment regimen typically lasts for 5-7 days, but its duration can be extended based on the severity of the patient's respiratory failure. Study duration: 12 months.

Studies from cystic fibrosis suggest that eradication therapy aimed at PA can successfully transition patients to a culture-negative status, providing long-term benefits. Current guidelines for managing bronchiectasis in adults recommend eradicating PA when it is first or newly isolated; however, there is a lack of randomized controlled trials supporting such recommendations. The researchers hypothesize that both oral ciprofloxacin combined with Tobramycin inhalation solution and Tobramycin inhalation solution alone are superior to no eradication (inhaled saline) in terms of the eradication rates of PA, defined as a negative sputum culture of PA at both 24 weeks and 36 weeks.

Interstitial Lung DiseaseMalnutrition occurs when the body receives too few nutrients, resulting in health problems such as weight loss. The consequences of malnutrition are worrying as they include lung failure, infection, and pressure ulcers. Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) is a term used for a group of diseases which can cause scarring of the lungs. Having ILD can cause malnutrition due to the lungs working hard and burning off energy. Additionally, medications called anti-fibrotic agents are used to slow disease progression. However, side effects include poor appetite, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and weight loss which can result in malnutrition. Malnutrition occurs in ILD in approximately half of patients. This is important because the main signs of malnutrition such as weight loss and a low Body Mass Index (BMI), which takes into consideration your weight against your height, are linked with worse outcomes in ILD. Malnutrition in ILD can also reduce eligibility for lung transplant and can impact tolerability of anti-fibrotic agents. Research into treatment of malnutrition in ILD is limited. Dietitians play a key role in diagnosis and treatment of malnutrition. This is because dietary counselling by a dietitian has been shown to increase quality of life and intake of energy in other chronic diseases. There are currently no studies documenting the benefits of dietetic intervention in patients with ILD. We propose to undertake the first feasibility study in this area. A feasibility study is a first step trial which investigates whether a study can & should be done. The main aims of this study are: How easy it is to recruit ILD patients to see a dietitian Whether patients will attend dietetic appointments Whether food/nutrient intake is increased following dietetic intervention How acceptable is dietetic intervention to ILD patients As well as these main aims, this study will also provide initial information about whether dietetic intervention stabilises weight, BMI & quality of life.
