Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Chronic Respiratory Diseases

ER Stress,Chronic Airway Disorders,2 more

Aim: To investigate whether ER stress is implicated in the pathogenesis of various pulmonary disorders Measurement: Unfolded protein responses (UPRs) in blood (PBMCs)of patients CHOP GRP 78 and so on Unfolded protein responses (UPRs) in blood (PBMCs)of healthy controls CHOP GRP 78 and so on

Need for Antepartum Thromboprophylaxis in Pregnant Women With One Prior Episode of Venous Thromboembolism...

Venous ThromboembolismDeep Vein Thrombosis1 more

Pregnant women with a prior history of venous thromboembolism (VTE) are at increased risk of recurrent VTE. Current guidelines assessing the role of prophylaxis in pregnant women with prior VTE are based primarily on expert opinion and the optimal clinical management strategy remains unclear. This multicentre, prospective cohort study aims to test the following hypotheses: Antepartum prophylaxis with fixed-dose low molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) is safe, convenient and associated with an acceptably low risk of recurrent VTE in women with a single prior episode of VTE that was either unprovoked or associated with a minor transient risk factor. (Moderate risk cohort) Withholding antepartum prophylaxis is safe (recurrence risk <1%) in pregnant women with a single prior episode of VTE provoked by a major transient risk factor. (Low risk cohort) All study patients will receive 6 weeks of postpartum prophylaxis.

Lung Transplantation in Respiratory Failure Patients

Respiratory Failure

Survival after cadaveric lung transplantation in recipients depended on ventilation support prior to transplantation has been reported to have relative high surgical mortality and morbidity rate. The objectives of this study were to describe the short-term outcomes of bilateral sequential lung transplantation under extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support in a consecutive series of patients who depended on noninvasive and invasive ventilation support preoperatively .

Database of Interstitial Lung Diseases

Interstitial Lung Diseases

The cause of most interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) is still unknown. Further research, for example to determine predisposing genetic factors, is therefore needed. A database with relevant clinical data and DNA/serum samples of ILD patients could facilitate future research on the cause of ILDs.

Lung Neoplasms

The purpose of our study is to determine whether contrast-enhanced dynamic MRI (DCE MRI) analysis of tumor angiogenesis and perfusion can be used as a reliable modality to differentiate benign from malignant solitary pulmonary nodules (SPN) before surgical intervention, using kinetic model derived from DCE MRI, and further correlate if there is any positive correlation between angiogenesis factor (vascular endothelial growth factor VEGF, microvessel density MVD); and if the perfusion parameters from DCE MRI can predict patients' outcomes and survival.

Hypercoagulable Parameters as Predictors of Thrombotic Events and Prognosis in Patients With Advanced...

Non-Small Cell Lung CarcinomaVenous Thromboembolism

The association between cancer and thrombosis is well known and the occurrence of thrombotic complications is commonly associated with poor prognosis. The aim os this study is to determine the possible value of hypercoagulable parameters as prognostic parameters in advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC).

Prognosis of Lung Transplant Candidates

Lung TransplantationRespiratory Failure

The purposes of the study are (1) to analyze the baseline patient characteristics cross-sectionally, (2) to analyze the prognosis and its predictive factors and (3) to examine the longitudinal clinical course in the lung transplant candidates in Japan.

Vibration Response Imaging (VRI) in Patients Who Are Potential Candidates for Surgical Resection...

Lung Cancer

The primary purpose of the study is to investigate the use of VRI to guide the selection of patients for lung surgery. Perfusion scintigraphy is the current method to assess the fractional contribution of lung function of the remaining lung. The hypothesis is that VRI can determine quantitative postoperative lung function equally accurately as a quantitative perfusion scan.

Correlation of Particulate Matter and Heme Oxygenase-1 Protein Activity in Asthmatic Children by...

Asthma

Samples of sputum from asthmatic children, between 5-17 years, will be collected during two years of the study period to perform tests Particle Size Distribution (PSD) and Shape Analysis (SA) of the particulate matter in the sputum and a biochemical reaction to evaluate the activity of Heme Oxygenase-1 protein in sputum cell supernatants. Each child will perform Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) and Induced Sputum (IS) as a routine part of diagnosis of asthma. Parents will be asked to complete a questionnaire including questions on their child's respiratory symptoms in the last 12 months as well as socioeconomic factors. Parents will be asked to give informed written consent for their child's participation in the study.
