High Frequency Percussive Ventilation in COVID-19 Patients
COVID-19Acute Respiratory FailureHigh frequency percussive ventilation (HFPV) is used in patients with underlying pulmonary atelectasis, excessive airway secretions, and respiratory failure. HFPV is a non-continuous form of high-frequency ventilation delivered by a pneumatic device that provides small bursts of sub-physiological tidal breaths at a frequency of 60-600 cycles/minute superimposed on a patient's breathing cycle. The high-frequency breaths create shear forces causing dislodgement of the airway secretions. Furthermore, the HFPV breath cycle has an asymmetrical flow pattern characterized by larger expiratory flow rates, which may propel the airway secretions towards the central airway. In addition, the applied positive pressure recruits the lung units, resulting in a more homogeneous distribution of ventilation and improved gas exchange. In acute care and critical care settings, HFPV intervention is used in a range of patients, from spontaneously breathing patients to those receiving invasive mechanical ventilation where HFPV breaths can be superimposed on a patient's breathing cycle or superimposed on breaths delivered by a mechanical ventilator. The most common indications for HFPV use are reported as removal of excessive bronchial secretions, improving gas exchange, and recruitment of atelectatic lung segments. This study aims to assess the lung physiological response to HFPV in terms of aeration and ventilation distribution in patients with acute respiratory failure due to SARS-CoV-2 infection and requiring high flow oxygen therapy through nasal cannula
A Real-world Evidence Study of BNT162b2 mRNA Covid-19 Vaccine Among Children in Brazil
COVID-19The present test-negative design study aims to estimate the real-world effectiveness of Pfizer-BioNTech BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine on symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection and its consequences among children aged 5 to 11 years in the city of Toledo in Southern Brazil. Individuals aged 5 to 11 years who seek the public healthcare system with symptoms suggestive COVID-19 will be enrolled. Participants with a positive reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test for SARS-CoV-2 will be classified as cases, and those with negative RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 will be classified as controls. Cases will be followed-up for a period of 3 months by means of structured telephone interviews.
Effect of Kunamin in SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Positive Covid-19 Patients
COVID-19 Respiratory InfectionFLU3 moreThe primary objective of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy profile of the food supplement (KUNAMIN®) containing grape juice, seed, stem, and bark given to patients treated with the established treatment regimen against novel coronavirus infectious disease (COVID-19) via comparing Kunamin® group versus control group in a clinical trial. In this study, both the therapeutic effect and the safety of the Kunamin® product has been evaluated. The study has been conducted on COVID-19 infected patients. Within the scope of the study, Covid-19 patients consisting of male and female patients are examined to evaluate the therapeutic effect. COVID-19 infected patients are divided into 2 groups and the treatment group received grape food supplements for 15 days in addition to their standard treatment. The other group received only standard therapy. The effects of supplements containing grape products on the COVID-19 infection process of patients are investigated, as indicated in the primary, secondary, and tertiary endpoints. For this purpose, both the observation of routine examination findings and the effectiveness of food supplements on viral load and antibody levels are investigated. In the follow-up that continues for 30 days, COVID-19 Rapid Antigen test made in USA approved by FDA is used to monitor the efficacy of Kunamin® as patient treated by Kunamin® viral load is diminished either after 5 days, 10 days or 15 days, COVID-19 Rapid Antibody test made in USA approved by FDA has been used to monitor the development of IgM and IgG antibodies on day 0, day 5th, day 10th, day 15th and day 30th in addition to PCR test of Perkinelmer by Kayseri hospital. In conjunction, the sponsor used AIT Laboratories A HealthTrackRx Company PCR test CLIA and FDA approved for not only COVID-19 but also 27 kinds of cold and flu viruses and 90 different kinds of bacteria. The number of patients planned for randomization was 240, however due to dropouts the hospital was able to screen 132 patients. Out of 132 patients we were able to enroll randomized total of 71 patients, 47 patients in the research arm and 24 in the control arm.
Reducing Parental Stress Via Instant Messaging During COVID-19 Pandemic: A Randomized Controlled...
ParentsParenting1 moreThis research investigated the effects of mindfulness practice on mental wellbeing and parenting behaviour, with the instruction recordings delivered via existing instant messaging applications, including Whatsapp and Signal. The two-week mindfulness program targeted parents with children in Nursery, Kindergarten to Primary School. Due to the suspension of schools, work from home policies, parents spend increased amount of time with their children. News reports have indicated that with the mounting care taking responsibilities and downturn of economy amidst the epidemic, parents have been experiencing higher stress that may negatively impact their wellbeing and parent-child relationship. This study delivered an app-based intervention that aims at enhancing mindful parenting at the time of corona, where social distancing is emphasized.
Water and Land-based Exercise for Children With Post COVID-19 Condition
COVID-19Children3 moreThe latest data indicate that post COVID-19 condition is frequent in children and adolescents, with the most common symptoms being fatigue, shortness of breath, exercise intolerance and weakness. Evidence that COVID-19 can have significant long-term effects on children's health highlights the need for measures to reduce the impact of the pandemic on children, ensuring that they receive appropriate treatments. Those experiencing post COVID-19 condition require more tailored exercise-related advice and improved support to be able to resume activities important to their individual well-being. To the best of our knowledge, no studies have yet addressed the issue of exercise programs for children with post COVID-19 condition. The aim of this study, therefore, is to evaluate the effectiveness of different interventions on pulmonary function, exercise capacity, fatigue and quality of life in children with post COVID-19 condition. This will be a randomized controlled study with pre and post intervention assessment. Children will be recruited from primary schools and primary health care units in Warsaw. Participants meeting the inclusion criteria will be randomized to one of 3 groups: water-based exercise, land-based exercise or control (no exercise). The water-based and land-based exercise groups will be held twice a week, 45 min per session for 8 weeks. Participants will be assessed at baseline and immediately post-intervention in terms of changes in pulmonary function, exercise capacity, fatigue and quality of life. Research outcomes will build the evidence-based practice for health professionals.
Multimodal Investigation of Post COVID-19 in Females
Post COVID-19Cognitive DysfunctionThe purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (t-VNS) on Long Covid symptoms in females and to identify factors influencing susceptibility and recovery-particularly in the cognitive domain, as over 80% of long-haulers experience "brain fog".
Prospective Biological Study to Evaluate the Persistence of COVID-19 Vaccine and Other Vaccines'-Induced...
Follicular LymphomaThis is a prospective biological study evaluating the persistence of COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines' (zoster, diphtheria and tetanus)-induced immunity in a subgroup patient affected by Follicular Lymphoma requiring treatment undergoing frontline induction immuno-chemotherapy and anti-CD20 maintenance within the prospective FIL_FOLL19 study (NCT05058404). Blood samples from patients will be collected before and at planned timepoints during treatment to evaluate humoral and cellular immunity against SARS-COV-2, VZV, tetanus and diphtheria and T-cell markers characterization.
