COVID-19 Patient Positioning Pragmatic Trial

COVID-19

This study aims to determine if provider-recommended guidance on supine (on back) vs. prone (on stomach) positioning of patients testing positive for COVID-19 requiring supplemental oxygen, but not yet mechanically ventilated, improves outcomes in the inpatient setting. This study will be performed as a pragmatic clinical trial.

COVID-19 Bivalent Booster Megastudy

COVID-19

This megastudy is a massive randomized controlled trial. By randomizing participants to 10 different intervention conditions simultaneously, the investigators will be able to compare the effectiveness of different interventions to one another and to a control group (in which individuals will only receive the usual communications from their partner organization) to identify which interventions significantly increase vaccination rates. Pharmacy customers will be randomly assigned to receive one of the interventions designed by team scientists to encourage vaccination or to a control group. The baseline intervention will be based on the top-performing SMS intervention identified in the investigators previous megastudies on encouraging vaccination (Milkman et al., 2021b, 2022). Pharmacy customers will receive SMS messages conveying that a COVID booster vaccine is reserved or waiting for them at the pharmacy. Additional behavioral science messaging strategies will be tested by building off of this baseline intervention.

Rutgers Pilot for Dental Health Care Worker SARS-CoV-2 Testing

SARS-CoV2 Infection

10 asymptomatic DHCWs in the Oral Medicine clinic, Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, with no history of documented COVID-19 infection or viral exposure, were enrolled in a study that interrogated DHCWs' perceptions of safety and adoption of risk mitigation behavior. Following a baseline survey, finger-prick blood samples were collected twice two weeks apart using an innovative microsampling technique that replaces the need for venipuncture. Samples were processed using an in-house ELISA assay to detect IgM and IgG directed against the Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) of the Spike protein. Weekly Rapid Antigen testing of nasal swab specimens was used to document Antigen negativity during the study.

Rutgers Pilot for PREDICT- Patient POC Test

SARS CoV 2 Infection

A pilot study was initiated to assess feasibility of testing asymptomatic dental patients presenting to the Oral Medicine Clinic at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine for SARS-CoV-2 viral antigen using a point-of-care (POC) Rapid Antigen test. 14 subjects with upcoming appointment at the Oral Medicine clinic, Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, with no history of documented COVID-19 infection or viral exposure, were enrolled in a study that interrogated patients' perceptions of safety and feedback regarding their testing experience. All 14 patients expressed initial interest, however, 10 patients completed informed consent and completed study procedures. Institutional Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certification of waiver was obtained prior to conducting the study. Communicable Diseases Reporting and Surveillance System (CDRSS) registration and training were completed to enable reporting results of the POC test.

COVID-19 Resource Offers Among Rent and Utility Assistance Applicants in St. Louis

Behavior and Behavior MechanismsCommunication

The purpose of this study is to evaluate health messaging strategies that help individuals with a high degree of housing-related needs engage in COVID-19 vaccination and testing behaviors. Findings from this research can help other communities determine how best to integrate social needs and COVID-19 prevention services. Participants' contact information will be shared with us by 211 with the participants' previously given consent. The study team will send via text message a link to a survey that includes a screen where they will provide informed consent. Those who provide consent will be randomly assigned to receive one of two surveys. The order of the offers is what varies across the surveys. Participants will be asked, along with other survey items, if they have been vaccinated against COVID-19. If they have not, they will be asked if they are interested in receiving help to receive a vaccine. Participants will also be asked if they are interested in receiving an at-home COVID self-test. If they say yes to assistance with vaccination, a vaccine navigator will call and assist them. If they say yes to receiving a COVID test, the study team will ship them a test that has been procured from the City of St. Louis Mayor's office. One month later participants will be sent a follow-up survey that asks about their experiences either with testing or with vaccination if applicable.
