Increasing COVID-19, Influenza, and Pneumonia Vaccine Uptake

This proposed study seeks to community knowledge and understand the experience of underserved communities in the exploration of reducing health disparities and increasing vaccine uptake and acceptability COVID-19, influenza, and pneumonia for AA and Latinx populations. Unique in its design, it has the following characteristics: 1) multifaceted, 2) culturally tailored, 3) community-based, and 4) mixed methods in which the outcomes of interest will be measured before and after the intervention with 18-month interval. Furthermore, we seek to enhance our partnerships and collaborations with churches in South Los Angeles by supporting efforts to encourage COVID-19, influenza, and pneumonia vaccination uptake among underserved minorities in one of the most challenged and hard-to-reach population areas in the nation.

'4C' Intervention to Reduce SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) Transmission

Nursing homes have long faced special challenges in implementing effective infection prevention programs, including limited resources and diagnostic challenges in a frail functionally disabled long-stay population. Advancing our understanding of the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 within these facilities for vulnerable populations deserves urgent and further investigation. Environmental contamination with SARS-CoV-2 that is reported in limited studies highlights the potential importance of transmission between patients, their environment, and healthcare providers via direct and indirect contact. This study seeks to characterize the epidemiology of SARS-CoV- 2 in the NH patient room environment over time and the risk of transmission to near and far environments, with the explicit intent of developing integrated, simple COVID-19 infection prevention strategies that can be reported to and implemented throughout other nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

This feasibility study is being conducted to understand how discharged emergency department patients who were tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19) engage with a symptom-tracking web application. Study participants that are enrolled in the study will be asked to enter daily information about their health into the CovidX web application (app.). In addition, patients will answer questions regarding anxiety levels, use a pulse oximeter to record information (if you own one or are given one). The investigators predict that participants will be able to engage with the CovidX web application over several days to weeks for the purposes of symptom tracking, and may have decreased anxiety over the study period.

Risk of SARS-CoV-2 Infection (COVID-19) in a Standing Concert in a Closed Performance Hall

The investigators want to compare the SARS-CoV-2 incidence 7 days after having been screened negative, between two groups of adults randomized to either go to a concert or not. Participants will be screened via a rapid saliva test a few hours before the show. The hypothesis is that attending a standing concert in respect of safety precaution doesn't increase the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The purpose of this project is to study the impact of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) treatments, such as lymphatic myofascial release and thoracic pump techniques severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) antibody levels in patients who receive the mRNA-1273 (Moderna) COVID-19 vaccine and to consider if these OMM strategies allow a stronger more robust immune response.

The goal of this low-interventional study was to learn about the effect a nutritional supplement in patients with COVID-19 and respiratory support. The main questions it aimed to answer were: if additional nutrition support has an effect on recovery of physical health in patients with COVID-19; to examine the effect of additional nutrition support on quality of life of patients with COVID-19; to examine the effect of the additional nutrition support on hospitalization period of patients with COVID-19. Participants were split into two groups. One group had the common hospital diet, another group in addition to the common diet was given with NutriDrink® 200 ml X 2 daily. During the observation period participants were asked to measure hand strength measured by hand grip tester and fill out the quality of life standard questionnaire SF-36. In addition, several routine blood tests were performed.

The Potential Role of sRAGE, KL-6, and SP-D as Prognostic Factors in Children With COVID-19

COVID-19 causes a wide spectrum of clinical illness, from upper respiratory symptoms to severe respiratory failure and death. Several plasma biomarkers -such as IL-6, C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and ferritin, among others- have been studied as markers of disease severity and prognosis. Besides, as alveolar damage biomarkers such as Surfactant protein D (SP-D), Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6), and soluble Receptor for Advanced Glycation end products (sRAGE) can be used in lung diseases as well as COVID-19 pneumonia. The investigators hypothesized that serum SP-D, KL-6 and sRAGE levels increases in the setting of COVID-19 pneumonia. In this prospective study the investigators aimed to determine the clinical value of serum KL-6, SP-D and sRAGE levels as a prognostic marker in children with COVID-19 patients. In the literature review, it has been determined that there is no study conducted or published in pediatric patients for this purpose, and it is aimed that our study will be a pioneer study on this subject.
