Serum Level of Ferritin and D-dimer and the Severity of (COVID 19) Infection

COVID-19

Many laboratory biomarkers were used for diagnosis of COVID-19 infection; however, their accuracy to assess the severity and prognosis are still to be evaluated. Aim: to correlate between the serum Ferritin and D-dimer levels and the severity of COVID-19 infection and its outcome (mortality, days of hospital stay, ICU admission or mechanical ventilation). A retrospective study conducted by retrieving patients' data who were admitted to Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital - Obour branch and diagnosed with COVID-19 infection in the period from 1st of April 2020 to 31st of July 2020.

The Bodily Complaints Barometer: The Impact of the Corona Measures and of Contracting a COVID-19...

COVID-19

Since December 2019, a new corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) causing COVID-19 disease, has expeditiously spread over the entire globe. Almost a half billion people caught the disease, and in those who survived, it soon became clear that residual complaints are not rare phenomena. Early focus lay on diminished lung capacity and cardiovascular-related problems. As time passed however, it became more apparent that those are not the only residual symptoms survivors may experience. Furthermore, nearly every country in the world took some sort of lockdown measures in order to try contain the spreading of the virus. These measures had great impact on all inhabitants, infected with the virus or not. This questionnaire-based study therefore aims to investigate (a) the effects of a COVID-19 infection on fatigue and/or musculoskeletal complaints, new or already existing, but also (b) the effects of lockdown measures on fatigue and/or musculoskeletal complaints, new or already existing, in people living, working or studying in Belgium during the pandemic.

Evaluation of the Impact of the Anti COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Addressed to the Employees of...

COVID-19

Health workers, especially those in patient-facing roles, had a significantly increased risk of COVID-19 infection, having serious outcomes, and risking spreading the virus to patients and staff. Vaccination campaign planning suggests allocating initial supplies of BNT162b2 vaccine to health workers given the importance of early protection to safeguard the continuity of care to patients. The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness and safety of BNT162b2 vaccine among the health workers of Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS (FPG). The retrospective cohort study will be conducted among health staff working at the FPG. Vaccination data will collect from hospital records. The primary end points will be vaccine effectiveness and safety.

The Impact of Vaccination on Severity of Illness in COVID-19

Covid19

With the FDA's emergency use authorization declaration in December of 2020, the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine became the first of several vaccines to kick off the mass vaccination effort across the United States against CoronaVIrus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Subsequently, Moderna as well as Johnson and Johnson both had vaccines receive emergency use authorization. While the Pfizer and the Moderna vaccines both utilize novel mRNA technology, Johnson and Johnson's vaccine uses a viral vector that has been used previously in both the approved European Ebola vaccine and a trial vaccine for HIV. However, none of these vaccine types have previously been approved in the United States. While preliminary data from safety and efficacy trials have shown positive results, actual-world data on its effectiveness is still lacking. Several small cohort studies and one large trial from Israel are currently the only insights into the actual rates of infection, hospitalization, and severe illness among vaccinated individuals. As COVID-19 variants, with the potential to reduce vaccine efficacy, continue to emerge worldwide, there is a need of more data regarding the real-world effectiveness of our current mass vaccination efforts. Vaccination efforts in the State of Michigan have been ongoing since December 2020. Given that approximately 33.7% of the state's population is either partially or fully vaccinated, it is unclear why the number of cases has risen so dramatically or if immunization efforts can help the situation. Given the current situation in the State of Michigan, this study will evaluate the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccination on rates of hospital visits and severe illness when breakthrough Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection occurs in a region with high incidence of variant strain disease.

Association of Androgenetic Alopecia and Severity of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Androgenetic AlopeciaCoronavirus Disease 20194 more

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can cause variable symptoms ranging from mild common cold-like symptoms to severe life threatening pneumonia. Recent studies show severe outcomes of COVID-19 patients specially in males who suffer from androgenetic alopecia, would be significant and is of particular interest of this study and could help further support the hypothesis that anti-androgen therapy might represents an additional potential intervention against severe COVID-19.

What Works to Get the Elderly Vaccinated Against COVID-19? Experimental Evidence From India

AgingCovid19

COVID-19 poses a substantial risk to elderly populations; understanding how to get elders vaccinated against the virus is therefore a policy priority. An experiment with elders in Tamil Nadu, India will be used to evaluate interventions policymakers might use to raise vaccination rates amongst the elderly. The particular interventions being tested are: calling elders to inform them about vaccination; encouragement of a "buddy system," whereby elders are accompanied to the vaccination site by another adult who could also get the vaccine; and seeding vaccination information with "gossips," individuals who elders identify as being good at spreading information in the elders' communities. The interventions are phone-based, and can be implemented quickly and at low cost. This makes them promising strategies the Tamil Nadu government and other governments could use to vaccinate elderly populations against COVID-19.
