Neutrophil Side Fluorescent Light (NEU-SFL) in COVID-19 Patients

COVID-19

Recently, a study showed that markers of neutrophil extracellular traps formation, a mechanism corresponding to neutrophil activation, were increased in patients who died of COVID 19 compared with survivors. The investigators propose to analyze the NEU-SFL parameter, obtained automatically on the Sysmex™ blood count machine (Sysmex Corporation, Kobe, Japan) and which is considered as a reflect of neutrophil extracellular traps formation, in these two groups of patients. The aim was to evaluate whether this parameter could be used to predict the risk of death related to COVID 19.

Routine Surgical Procedures During COVID-19 Pandemic: a French Nationwide Cohort Study

SurgeryCataract5 more

Determine the consequences of COVID-19 pandemic on routine targeted surgeries. Five surgical procedures were considered : cataract surgery, hip and knee arthoplasties, coronary revascularisation by angioplasty and definitive cardiac stimulation. The objective of the study is to quantify changes of these procedures in 2020 and in 2021 (up to June) compared to 2019 taking into account their annual evolution and according to the type of operation (primary or reoperation/revision) and emergency status, if applicable.

Cytopenias in Hospitalized Patients of Corona Virus Infection(COVID-19) During First and Other Waves...

Corona Virus Infection

Demographic, Clinical and laboratory data as well as outcome of total 202 COVID-19 patients who were Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) positive and admitted in Fatima memorial Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, was collected during first and other waves. Data of First wave is from May 2020 to July 2020, second wave from early November to Mid December 2020 and third wave from Mid march to June 2021. Investigator analyzed the data on basis of Systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) as well hematological parameters of First Wave were compared to other waves of COVID-19.

Predicting COVID-19 Patients' Clinical Outcomes Using ICU Mobility Scale and MRC Sum Score

COVID-19

The investigators hypothesize that early mobility condition and muscle power may be the predictive factors for Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) patients' activity prognosis and hospitalization days. To prove our hypothesis, the investigators proposed a retrospective cohort study to see if ICU mobility scale(ICUMS) and Medical Research Council Sum Score(MRCSS) can predicted the patients' Barthel index after discharge and hospitalization days.

The Impact of Statin Therapy in the Covid-19 Patients

COVID-19

In the retrospective case series, consecutive COVID-19 patients admitted from June 1 to December 31, 2020, were analyzed. A 1:1 matched cohort was created by propensity score-matched analysis. Demographic data, laboratory findings, comorbidities, treatments, and in-hospital outcomes were collected and compared between COVID-19 patients with and without statin use.

Criteria and Potential Predictors of Severity in Patients With COVID-19

COVID-19

This is an observational cross sectional study included 202 patients diagnosed to have COVID-19. The study was conducted at Zagazig University Isolation Hospitals from the period of March 2020 to June 2021. The study was approved by Zagazig University Ethics Committee (number 9229). A written informed consent was obtained from all participants. Inclusion criteria: The study includes laboratory confirmed COVID-19 patients (confirmed by real-time polymerase chain reaction) admitted l during the period of the study. The patients were classified into two groups, group A included mild/moderate cases, group B included severe/critical cases according to the following criteria. Severity of COVID-19 was graded as follows: mild; mild clinical symptoms, no pneumonia on lung CT; moderate: fever, cough and lung CT with pneumonia; severe: respiratory distress (respiratory rate > 30 /min, oxygen saturation (O2Sat) ≤ 93 percent at rest and/or ratio of arterial oxygen partial pressure to fractional inspired oxygen ≤300 mmHg (PaO2/FIO2); and critical: aforementioned criteria of respiratory failure receiving mechanical ventilation, shock, and/or organ failure other than lung and/or intensive care unit (ICU) hospitalization. All participants were subjected to full history taking including smoking history and comorbidity profile. Clinical symptoms including: fever, cough, dyspnea, myalgia, hemoptysis, sore throat, diarrhea, loss of smell and anorexia were recorded. Radiological assessment by initial chest x ray then CT chest as possible and appropriate. Routine laboratory investigations: Complete blood count (CBC), coagulation profile, serum biochemical tests (including renal and liver function, and electrolytes), laboratory investigation to assess severity of COVID-19: lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), myocardial enzymes (CPK-MB), serum ferritin, D dimer and arterial blood gases analysis. Patients were followed up for the need for ICU and mechanical ventilation (MV), duration till conversion, total length of stay and final outcome whether survived or died were recorded.

Cognitive, Emotional and Behavioural Impairments in Patients After Sars-Cov2 Infection

COVID-19Sars-CoV-2 Infection

Recent studies suggest cognitive, emotional and behavioural impairments occur in patients after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Problems with memory, attention, information processing and executive functions are particularly prevalent in these patients, probably due to hypothesised sensitivity of the hippocampus to the virus. Cognitive impairment is also present in patients with no neurological, neuropsychological and neuropsychiatric history. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to describe neuropsychological and neuropsychiatric features in patients recovered from moderate to severe forms of Covid-19 some weeks after hospital dismission.

Newborns in Level III Services in Alsace From Mothers With COVID-19

COVID-19

Very little is known about the impact on the newborn of late pre-partum maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection. Care without separation of the mother and her newborn with continued breastfeeding has been advocated in France and by the WHO but is being debated in some countries. Assessment of the development of newborns in their first month of life with this strategy associated with close and secure follow-up. Importance of reporting the potential benefits / risks of this treatment to guide the care of newborns in a persistent epidemic context in a particularly affected region.
