Dietary Protein Intake and Rehabilitation From Anterior Cruciate Ligament Surgery

Protein supplementation may promote increases in strength and hypertrophy in the context of resistance training (RT) and reduce markers of inflammation, while sufficient levels of protein are necessary for healing certain wounds and maintenance of muscle mass in a protein depleted state. Protein supplementation could be useful to improve clinical outcomes.

The goal of this [type of study: observational study] is to [detect concomitant KF and ALL injury in knees with ACL injury using MRI in both adult and pediatric patients and compare the effect of KF injury and multiple risk factors (concomitant injury to the ALL, medial collateral ligament [MCL], or anterior, central, or posterior part of the medial or lateral meniscus) on anterolateral rotatory laxity as measured by the pivot-shift test in a clinical setting.]. Reliability and Validity of Inline Dynamometry Study for Measuring Knee Extensor Torque

This study will investigate the reliability and validity of an inline 'pull-type' dynamometer for measuring peak knee extensor torque. For the reliability study, healthy volunteers will be assessed by two assessors (inter-rater) at the index testing session, with testing repeated by one assessor one week later (test-retest). Validity will be investigated against isometric electromechanical dynamometry (gold standard) in patients following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.

The objective of the study is to assess re-rupture rates and patient outcomes from subjects with at least 5 year follow up, treated with the JewelACL device for ACL reconstruction. The impact of fixation type and autograft augmentation will also be assessed. All adverse events related to the JewelACL device will be recorded. This study is Sponsored by Xiros.

In this longitudinal prospective cohort study including young people with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), the aims are to 1) study the association between different measures of muscle function and early future of knee osteoarthritis (OA) assessed as patient-reported pain, 2) explore potential associations between muscle function and features indicative of early radiographic OA measured with MRI, and early detection of OA in biomarker profiles, respectively, 3) monitor the patients' functional status, and early OA development over time and 4) investigate the prevalence of early knee OA in individuals 1 and 3 years post ACLR, respectively, compared to non-injured controls.The main hypothesis is that knee extensor weakness predicts future symptomatic OA of the knee (KOOS pain).

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the incidence and degree of bone tunnel widening between two groups who have undergone anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgery. The two groups have undergone different graft fixation methods: an interference screw/suspensory button fixation hybrid technique, and an all-inside suspensory method fixation. Tunnels are created at the time of surgery for graft placement and fixation, but have been known to enlarge post-operatively. Little has been studied on the relatively new all-inside technique. X-rays of the operative knee will be used to assess tunnel width. Secondary outcomes will include clinical evaluation and outcome scoring questionnaires

Background: Bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) and a double-looped semitendinosus gracilis (hamstring group) graft are commonly used for ACL reconstruction. Short-term and mid-term studies show little to no significant difference between the two groups, and there are a few long term studies to compare results between the two grafts. Purpose: To compare the results after using either BPTB grafts or hamstring grafts 18 years after ACL reconstruction. Study design: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence II. Methods: 114 patients with ACL rupture between 2001 and 2004 were randomized to reconstruction with either BPTB graft or a hamstring graft. Patients were operated at four major hospitals. The 18-year follow-up evaluation included isokinetic testing of muscle strength, patient-reported outcome measures, clinical knee examination and an assessment of radiological osteoarthritis using the Kellgren-Lawrence classification. Hypothesis:Hypothesis is that there will be no difference in the long-term outcome between the two groups, as well hypothesis of no difference in patients with prosthesis after ACL reconstruction, arthrosis difference in operated knees and the rate of graft failure between the two groups. Previous follow-up studies showed a significant difference in total flexion work between the two groups, so detecting a persistent difference between the groups will be point of interest.

Mechanical Perturbation Training for ACL Injury Prevention

A prospective trial will be used to evaluate the efficacy of prophylactic mechanical perturbation training program. 24 female athletes who are regular participants in activities that involve cutting, pivoting, jumping, and lateral movements prior to injury who range in age from 15-30 year are eligible. Using a prospective risk stratification design, female athletes with knee abduction moment (KAM) > 25.25 Nm from drop jump motion analysis will be classified as high KAM and will receive 12 sessions of mechanically-driven perturbation training and female athletes with KAM < 25.25 Nm from drop jump motion analysis will be classified as normal KAM and only participate in baseline performance testing, followed 6 weeks later by another session of drop jump motion analysis and performance testing.
