Clinical Pharmacist Role in Adherence to Recommendations Among Isotretinoin Users

Acne Vulgaris

The objective of the study was to evaluate the role of clinical pharmacists in improving adherence to medication and the recommendations related to isotretinoin, awareness about proper use, dealing with the side effects, and anxiety and depressive symptoms. Patients were randomly assigned to an intervention group (received the educational process (recommendations) about isotretinoin by a clinical pharmacist in addition to the routine education about isotretinoin provided by the physician) and a control group (received only the routine education about isotretinoin provided by the physician) and then followed for three months. Patient's adherence to the recommendations, patient's knowledge about isotretinoin, and side effects management for both groups were measured through a set of questions adapted from a validated questionnaire at baseline and after three months. Adherence scale was used to evaluate adherence to the medication after three months. Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale were used to assess depressive and anxiety symptoms at baseline and at follow-up in each group.

The Development and Evaluation of an "E-Visit" Program for the Management of Acne

Acne Vulgaris

The purpose of this study is to test the efficacy, timeliness, and user satisfaction of an online "E-Visit" application that uses store-and-forward technology for acne patients requiring dermatologic care for their condition. Hypotheses: That an "E-Visit" is an effective alternative to in-person clinic care for patients with mild to severe facial acne. That providers and patients will be satisfied with this model. That mean wait times for new and return visits will be reduced through the "E-Visit" model. That this prototype for care will improve clinic workflow, offer additional patient access, and allow urgent cases to be seen earlier.

Silymarin Cream Versus Salicylic Acid in Treatment of Acne Vulgaris

Acne Vulgaris

Acne vulgaris is a disease of the pilosebaceous unit that causes noninflammatory lesions (open and closed comedones), inflammatory lesions (papules, pustules, and nodules), and varying degrees of scarring. Acne vulgaris is an extremely common condition with a lifetime prevalence of approximately 85% and occurs mostly during adolescence. Acne vulgaris leads to significant morbidity that is associated with residual scarring and psychological disturbances such as poor self-image, depression, and anxiety, which leads to a negative impact on quality of life. The treatment of acne vulgaris is challenging and often chronic, with high rates of failure and numerous choices. Frequent evaluations (i.e., every 8-12 weeks) are important to enable appropriate monitoring, manage adverse effects, and evaluate for medication compliance. Topical therapies are considered one of the mainstay treatments for patients with mild-to-moderate acne.
