Prolonged Exposure Therapy Versus Active Psychotherapy in Treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder...
Post-Traumatic Stress DisorderThis study will compare the effectiveness of prolonged exposure therapy versus active psychotherapy in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in adolescents.
Topiramate in the Treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
PTSDTo study the potential therapeutic effects of topiramate (Topamax) in the treatment of PTSD.
Use of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) in Chronic, Severe, Treatment Resistant Posttraumatic Stress...
Posttraumatic Stress DisorderPost Traumatic Stress Disorder is a chronic debilitating illness and few treatment options have demonstrated effectiveness. The study will look at the use of electroconvulsive therapy for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress disorder in patients who have not responded to multiple antidepressants or cognitive behavioral therapy.
Prazosin for Treatment of Patients With Alcohol Dependence (AD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...
Alcohol DependenceStress Disorders1 morePrazosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist that has been used successfully in the treatment of trauma nightmares and sleep disturbance in combat veterans with PTSD, and alcohol dependence. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of prazosin (16mg) versus placebo in reducing alcohol consumption and decreasing symptoms of PTSD in patients with comorbid AD and PTSD.
Comparing Imaginal Exposure and Imagery Rescripting in Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder...
Posttraumatic Stress DisorderThe outcome of trauma treatment (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder - PTSD) may be influenced by which emotions that are predominant among current symptoms, e.g. fear, anger, guilt, shame. Different treatment procedures for processing traumatic memories may resolve different emotions. This study compares two different treatment procedures of working with trauma memories in PTSD treatment (namely, Imaginal Exposure and Imagery Rescripting) in order to test this.
Treatment of Smoking Among Individuals With PTSD
Cigarette SmokingNicotine Dependence2 moreThis study will examine the effect of combining prolonged exposure, a cognitive-behavioral treatment program for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with medication (varenicline) and counseling treatments for smoking cessation. Subjects will be randomly assigned to a 3-month treatment of either: 1) varenicline and smoking cessation counseling alone, or 2) prolonged exposure, varenicline, and smoking cessation counseling. Assessments will be completed at the end of treatment and 6-month follow-up. We hypothesize that, at the end of treatment and at follow-up, abstinence rates and decrease in cigarettes smoked will be greater among participants who receive the combined treatment for both PTSD and smoking.
Open Trial of Escitalopram Treatment for Male Subjects With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Chronic Posttraumatic Stress DisorderThe primary aim of this pilot study is to test the efficacy of the selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, Escitalopram, in the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in an open clinical trial. A secondary aim is to determine whether treatment with escitalopram increases plasma allopregnanolone levels in patients with PTSD and if increases in allopregnanolone levels are correlated with treatment efficacy.
Treatment of Older Veterans With Chronic Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Combat DisordersPost-traumatic Stress DisorderThis project represents the first randomized clinical trial of psychotherapy for older veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It will compare relaxation training (RT) to prolonged exposure therapy (PE). The project will also examine whether cognitive impairment influences psychotherapy outcome. Primary hypotheses: (1) Subjects in the PE condition will have significantly less severe PTSD symptoms, depressive symptoms, and functional impairment than subjects in the RT condition at posttest; (2) Executive functioning will modify the response to both treatments, such that those with impaired executive functioning will demonstrate a smaller reduction in PTSD symptoms (representing less clinically significant change).
Group Based Exposure Therapy for Combat-Related PTSD
Posttraumatic Stress DisorderThe purpose of this randomized controlled trial is to determine if Group Based Exposure Therapy (GBET) is more effective than treatment as usual in reducing the symptoms of war-related Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Reducing Alcohol Use & Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) With Cognitive Restructuring & Experiential...
AlcoholismStress Disorders1 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether an experiential acceptance therapy intervention is effective in the treatment of alcohol dependency and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in individuals who suffer from PTSD.
