Periostin and Non-Surgical Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal Diseases

A total of 90 subjects, 30 patients with chronic periodontitis, 30 with gingivitis and 30 periodontally healthy subjects were included. Patients with periodontal disease received non-surgical periodontal treatment. Gingival crevicular fluid periostin levels were assessed at baseline, at the 6th week and the 3rd month after treatment.

Probiotics Effects to Initial Periodontal Treatment

Chronic Periodontitis

The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical and microbiological effects of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis DN-173010 containing yoghurt as an adjunct to mechanical periodontal treatment.

Furcation Therapy With Enamel Matrix Derivative

Chronic Periodontitis

Objective: To clinically evaluate mandibular furcation treated with Beta tricalcium phosphate/hydroxyapatite (βTCP/HA) isolated or combined with enamel matrix derivative (EMD + βTCP/HA) and EMD alone. Material and Methods: 39 patients, presenting at least one mandibular class II furcation defect, probing pocket depth (PPD) ≥ 4 mm and bleeding on probing, were included. The defects were assigned to the βTCP/HA group 1 (n = 13); open-flap debridement (OFD) + βTCP/HA filling; βTCP/HA + EMD group 2 (n = 13); OFD + βTCP/HA + EMD filling; and EMD group 3 (n = 13) OFD + EMD filling. Plaque (PI) and gingival index (GI), PPD, relative gingival margin position (RGMP), vertical and horizontal attachment level (RVCAL and RHCAL), and furcation diagnosis were evaluated at baseline, 6 and 12 months.

Serum TRAP-5b Levels in Patients With Generalized Chronic Periodontitis

Chronic Periodontitis

To compare the effect of non-surgical periodontal therapy with or without systemic administration of amoxicillin and metronidazole on the concentration of serum levels of TRAP-5b in patients with generalized chronic periodontitis.

Clinical Efficacy Of 810 Nanometer Diode Laser As An Adjunct To Mechanical Periodontal Treatment...

Chronic Periodontitis

Background: Aim of this randomized controlled parallel-designed study was to evaluate the effects of diode laser as an adjunct to mechanical periodontal treatment on clinical parameters and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) volume of the residual pockets diagnosed following initial periodontal treatment in chronic periodontitis (CP) patients. Methods: A total of 84 residual pockets on single-rooted teeth in 11 CP patients were included and randomly assigned into 3 groups. Residual pockets were treated either only by mechanical treatment (Group M) (n=28), only by diode laser disinfection (Group L) (n=28) or by combination of these techniques (Group M+L) (n=28). Plaque index, gingival index (GI), bleeding on probing (BoP), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level and gingival recession were assessed at baseline and 8 weeks after treatment of residual pockets. GCF samples were collected at baseline, 1 and 8 weeks after treatment.

Gingival Crevicular Fluid Vaspin and Omentin Levels in Type 2 Diabetic Patients With Chronic Periodontitis...

Chronic PeriodontitisDiabetes Mellitus

The aim of the present study were 1) to determine the role of these adipokines in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease, inflammation and tissue destruction comparing with gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) levels of TNF-α, which has a known pro-inflammatory effect in periodontal disease, 2) to investigate the effect of non-surgical periodontal treatment on GCF vaspin and omentin levels in type 2 diabetic (T2DM) patients with Chronic Periodontitis (CP).

Autologous Alveolar Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells for the Reconstruction of Infrabony Periodontal...

Chronic Periodontitis

Systemically healthy periodontitis patients are recruited from new referrals to the Department of Periodontology and Biology of Implants, AUTh. After completion of non-surgical periodontal treatment those subjects who have at least one interdental osseous defect with probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level of ≥ 6mm and an intrabony component of ≥ 3mm with no endodontic or furcation involvement are randomly allocated into one of the three treatment groups. Group A receives regenerative treatment using autologous bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells free of animal derived reagents, produced in clean room facilities and seeded into collagen scaffolds enriched with fibrin glue; in Group B, a collagen fleece enriched with fibrin glue devoid of stem cells fills the osseous defect; Group C receives open flap debridement retaining the soft wall of the defect. Thereafter, subjects are followed for 12 months and are repeatedly assessed based on clinical, radiographic, immunological and microbiological parameters. In a series of cases, tissue engineering in a similar manner to Group A will be applied to treat isolated periodontal interdental defects, in combination with the novel "closed surgical technique".

Periodontitis

The objective of this study is to determine whether enhanced micronutrient intake in the form of fruit, vegetable and berry juice powder (FVB) concentrate, improves clinical outcomes in chronic periodontitis patients prior to standard non-surgical treatment.

Effects of the Variation in the Time of Systemic Administration of Metronidazole and Amoxicillin...

Chronic PeriodontitisClinical and Microbiological Effects

• Background: Peridontitis is a group of diseases with complex bacterial etiology that affects a large proportion of the Chilean and worldwide population. Its treatment, based on an anti-infective mechanical therapy including scaling and root planning procedures, has been highly effective in numerous short and long term clinical trials. The use of adjunctive systemic antibiotics has shown significant improvements in the initial therapy results of specific periodontal disease types or patient profiles. The synergic combination of Metronidazole plus amoxicillin has been widely and successfully used for the treatment of aggressive and severe chronic periodontitis, demonstrating additional benefits in clinical and microbiological parameters over scaling and root planning alone. However, and despite its proven efficacy, there is a lack of evidence that evaluates the impact of antimicrobials intake at different times of the mechanical treatment, emphasizing the necessity of a study that compares, simultaneously, the variation of the adjunctive antibiotic effects when they are administered in different moments through the periodontal therapy course.
