The Evolution of Visual Acuity Measured by Electronic Tablet / Computer of Exudative AMD Patients...

Macular Degeneration Exudative Eye Bilateral

This pathology, DMLA, whose evolution is chronic, requires regular follow-up and care (IVTs) over a long period (several months or even years). Increasing the number of patients to be followed and treated poses increasing problems for ophthalmologists to ensure regular follow-up of patients, followed by a need for satisfactory functional results. Moreover, this regular follow-up imposes enormous constraints on patients and their families (some children or patients are still working). Studies are beginning to emerge on the reliability of patient follow-up in telemedicine. The use of a measure of visual acuity by patients, Electronic Tablet (TE) or computer (O), and at home, seems a logical step to help us improve the quality of patient follow-up while spacing controls. The aim of our study is thus to demonstrate that the measurement of the VA performed by TE or O is reliable. Indeed, during the follow-up of the patients, in the case where the patient's AV decreases, and whatever the reason

Evaluate the Quality of Life of Patients With AMD

Age-related Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a major cause of deep visual acuity loss. Because of progressive deterioration of the macula, patients with AMD complain about progressive visual problems that can impair their quality of life in the physical, mental and social domains. The principal objective principal of this study is to describe the evolution of quality of life between the diagnosis of secondary atrophic AMD and at 18 months after confirmation of diagnosis.

Non-Persistence/Non-Adherence (NP/NA) in Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration (wAMD) Patients in...

Wet Macular Degeneration

In the research study an observation of patients with wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD) will be performed. The term observational study indicates that the current course of therapy and the associated circumstances will be recorded. In this study, no medical care is changed. Also, no new drugs are tested. This study is being conducted in about 30 centers in Germany. A total of approximately 500 patients will be enrolled. The study is designed for a period of 12 months. At the beginning and end of the study the physician will document the patient data. Therefore will be used information from the patient records and documented visits. If such information is not available in the study center, the otherwise attending ophthalmologist will be consulted about the vision acuity values and visits in the observation period. Furthermore, patients are asked to participate in three telephone interviews and fill out during their visits to the study center a short questionnaire about their current vision and their well-being. In the telephone interviews will be discussed with the patient about his wet AMD disease and its treatment, its experience and its perspectives as well as any problems occur.

AREDS 2 Ancillary Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography Study

Age Related Macular Degeneration

The purpose of this study is to identify whether changes in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) over time as seen with spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SDOCT) imaging, can be used to predict vision loss and the advancement of AMD in people at moderate to high risk for progression.

Usability of the Foresee Home in Intermediate Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Patients

Age Related Macular Degeneration

The study purpose is to demonstrate that the target population can receive a packed FORESEE HOME unpack it, install and operate it to an extent that the FORESEE HOME can monitor them for changes in the visual field with good specificity. And evaluate the device usage on a small scale, at the subjects' homes before a commercial use.

Assessment of Macular Edema Using HRT Technique

Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) is the most common cause of irreversible blindness in people of age 50 or older in the western populations. ARMD has two forms, the wet and the dry forms. The wet form is more serious and can lead to irreversible loss of vision. In the wet form of ARMD, new blood vessels grow under the retina. These blood vessels leak blood and fluid and cause the retina and the macula to swell. So the thickness of the macula increases. One of the key factors in the treatment of wet ARMD is early diagnosis and treatment to prevent complete visual loss. In this research, we are going to use a technique, called the Heidelberg retinal tomograph (HRT) to measure and compare the thickness of the macula in healthy controls and in patients suspected of having ARMD. HRT is a non-invasive imaging system that uses laser to measure the thickness of the macula. This allows us to come up with a quite simple and easy-to-use technique that helps us to diagnose wet ARMD early and treat it before visual acuity is completely lost.
