Intra-venous Zoledronic Acid Once Yearly
Post-Menopausal OsteoporosisThe study will assess the real life effectiveness of zoledronic acid in the management of patients with osteoporosis over 4 years of treatment. Zoledronic acid will be compared to oral bisphosphonates (OBP) with respect to the change in Bone Mineral Density (BMD) and incidence of fractures.

This is non-interventional , prospective, multi-center study.Target number of patients is 4500.
Back Pain in Patients With Severe Osteoporosis
OsteoporosisThe purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of teriparatide versus therapies that decrease bone loss to prevent new or worsening back pain in patients with osteoporosis seen in clinical practice.

OsteoporosisThis study compares the performance of different doses of oral recombinant salmon calcitonin (rsCT).
Hormonal and Bone Turnover Marker Response to an Acute Bout of Resistance or Plyometric Exercise...
OsteoporosisOsteopeniaWe are interested in determining if there exist a short-term response in the serum markers and hormones that participate in the regulation of bone tissue formation and breakdown to a single, high-intensity exercise session of weight lifting (resistance exercise) or jumping (plyometrics). We are also interested in determining if the bone marker response to exercise is altered by changing the negative energy state caused by the exercise treatment, when subjects are given a moderate calorie meal.
Biological Bone Markers and Hydrolyzed Collagen Supplement in Menopausal Healthy Women
OsteoporosisPreliminary scientific studies, in both animals and humans suggest that oral consumption of hydrolyzed collagen acts on the bone remodeling process by stimulating the activity of osteoblasts responsible for bone formation while improving the bone mineral density and biomechanical resistance of long bones. The objective of this clinical research is to measure changes in biomarkers of bone turnover in postmenopausal healthy women, not osteoporotic, in response to consumption of hydrolyzed collagen for three months. For this, we propose to measure blood and urinary markers of formation and bone resorption before consumption, then 45 and 90 days after daily consumption of 10 g of hydrolyzed collagen.

Note: FOSAMAX PLUS D is known as FOSAMAX PLUS in several markets. FOSAMAX PLUS (70 mg/2800 IU) and FOSAMAX PLUS D (70 mg/5600 IU).
Evaluation of VLER-Indiana Health Information Exchange Demonstration Project
Diabetes MellitusAsthma3 moreThree out of four Veterans receive a portion of their care from non-VA providers. On April 9, 2009, President Barack Obama directed the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense to create the Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record (VLER). On August 2010, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki visited Indianapolis, and after visiting with leaders from the VA Health Services Research & Development (HSR&D) Center of Excellence and the Regenstrief Institute, he made the following public comments regarding the latest partnership between the two institutions: "This new technology allows safer, more secure, and private access to electronic health information which, in turn, enhances our ability to continue providing Veterans with the quality care that they have earned." This new technology refers to the VLER HEALTH program that the Indianapolis VA is now implementing in partnership with the Regenstrief Institute and Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE). This VA-IHIE demonstration project is intended to create the capacity for VA institutions to exchange health information with community partners. Investigators from the VA HSR&D Center on Implementing Evidence-Based Practice are active collaborators in building and implementing this program. The VA-IHIE program provides the bi-directional exchange of health information between VA and non-VA providers. Based on our pilot study of linked VA-IHIE data, investigators are conducting an evaluation of the impact of the VA-IHIE demonstration project upon health care quality and cost of Veterans by taking advantage of the initiation of the implementation as a natural experiment.
