Effectiveness and Safety of Inhaling Hypertonic Saline in Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseThe use of inhaled hypertonic saline has been extensively documented in asthma, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis and COPD as method of bronchial challenge and sputum induction, but studies that evaluated others endpoints are required. The objective of this study was to analyse the effects of inhaling hypertonic saline compared with placebo with respect to functional exercise capacity, dyspnoea and quality of life. In a double-blind randomised parallel placebo-controlled trial, conducted at the Clínicas Integradas of the Evangelical Faculty of Paraná,sixty-eight patients (age 67 ± 6.5 years; FEV1 38.9 ± 16.2 predicted) were randomised to inhale 3% hypertonic saline (n=34) or placebo (n=34), combined with a program of exercise, three times a week, for 8-weeks.
A Study To Assess Efficacy And Safety Of Different Doses Of GW642444 In Subjects With Chronic Obstructive...
Pulmonary DiseaseChronic ObstructiveThis study will assess the safety and efficacy of 5 doses GW642444 in subjects with Chonic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Vitamin D as Treatment for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseThis project aims to explore the relationship between Vitamin D deficiency and COPD progression via a prospective randomized placebo-controlled study. For this purpose, study was powered to 120 patients hospitalized with an exacerbation of COPD randomly assigned to a monthly oral dose of Vitamin D versus placebo. Taking into account dropouts, 182 patients are randomized during the course of the study
A Study To Investigate Safety, Blood Levels And Effects Of Giving GW642444, By Mouth, By Inhalation...
Pulmonary DiseaseChronic ObstructiveThis study will involve the use of a new medicine called GW642444 being developed for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The purpose of the study is to see how safe and how well tolerated the study drug is when it is given as a liquid by mouth or by injection into a vein. In addition the study will measure how much of the medicine gets into the bloodstream when it is given by mouth, by injection into a vein and inhaled, and how long the body takes to get rid of it.
Safety Study Using GSK573719 And Tiotropium In Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease...
Pulmonary DiseaseChronic ObstructiveGSK573719 is a high-affinity specific muscarinic receptor (mAChR) antagonist which is being developed for once daily treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The long duration of action of GSK573719 when administered via inhalation in animal models supports the potential for use as a once-daily bronchodilator for COPD.
Study To Examine Safety, Tolerability And Pharmacokinetics Of Intravenous Doses And Oral Dose Of...
Pulmonary DiseaseChronic ObstructiveGSK233705 is being developed for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This will be an open-label, dose-ascending study in 7 healthy male subjects to establish well tolerated intravenous doses and an oral dose of GSK233705. The main objective of the study is to confirm an IV and oral dose for a definitive human radiolabel metabolic study.
