Basophile Activation Testing (BAT) in Hazelnut Allergy (Hazelnut BAT Study)
Food AllergyThe proposed study intends to compare the outcome of food challenge in hazelnut allergic patients with the outcome of basophile activation tests using hazelnut extract and components.
8% L-Arginine/Calcium Carbonate Toothpaste in Comparison to Strontium Acetate Toothpaste for Hypersensitive...
Dentin HypersensitivityDentinal hypersensitivity [DH] is a common condition in daily practice, especially in patients who have abrasion, attrition, gingival recession and erosion of teeth. It can affect individuals in the age range of 20-50 years. In a recent systematic review, it was reported that no gold standard treatment modality for dentin hypersensitivity has been established Thus there is a need to evaluate new formulations in different settings and in different populations and to compare those to commonly used agents seeking better results in pain relief for our patients. Studies showed that dentifrice formulations containing 8% arginine in combination with calcium carbonate and fluoride have the ability to plug dentinal tubules, by clumping of both arginine and calcium carbonate that bind with the negatively charged dentin . Aim of the study is to clinically evaluate toothpaste containing 8% arginine, calcium carbonate, and sodium mono-fluorophosphate, in comparison to toothpaste, containing 8% strontium acetate and NaF on the relief of DH in chronic periodontitis patients.
Precision Allergy: Separate Allergies to Male and Female Dogs
Allergy; DanderA new male-specific dog-allergen-component has been found (Can f 5) which indicates possible differences in allergic reactions to male and female dogs. This has not yet been tested in real life. The aim is to test if sensitization only to the male-dog specific allergen-component, Can f 5, results in a positive skin prick test (SPT) to male dog extract and not female dog extract. In addition, the investigators want to investigate if allergic symptoms only occur when exposed to the male dog extract by conjunctival provocation.
Metaplasticity Experimental Design and Comparison of Motor Outcome Measure Sensitivity to Change...
HealthyThe overall objective is to validate the methodology of a metaplasticity experimental design by assessing change in motor excitability after administration of priming transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) followed by repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in healthy human participants.
Evaluation of the Sensitivity of a Transdermal Device to Monitor the Sweat Alcohol Concentration...
The Sweat Alcohol ConcentrationA non invasive transdermal sensor device was developed by the Im2Np laboratory to determine the presence of vapor of alcohol in insensible perspiration. One of possible application would be a continuous and non invasive monitoring of drinking behavior. To investigate the validity of this method, it's necessary to compare Transdermal Alcohol Concentrations results obtained by this new device with Blood Alcohol Concentrations and breath Alcohol Concentrations provided by reference methods. The purpose of this study is to identify the kinetic of alcohol concentration in blood, exhaled air and sweat after alcohol ingestion.
Study on the Induction of Food Tolerance in Babies
Food HypersensitivityThis general population based, randomized controled trial aims at answering two major hypotheses: First, systematic early introduction of solid foods decreases the incidence of food allergy and dietary restrictions by the age of one year. Second, stimulation with the symptom-eliciting food rather than avoidance will induce tolerance in babies with non-severe allergic symptoms.
Medical Device for Drug Allergy Diagnosis
Drug HypersensitivityThe COBIOPHAD project targets the development of a highly sensitive, selective, and multiplexed diagnostic device to provide a quick and inexpensive in vitro test to address the most prevalent drug hypersensitivity to betalactams antibiotics, (BLCs). During a retrospective study, BLC structures involved in drug hypersensitivity will be identified from sera of allergic patients (versus controls) and coupled on the device. A prospective study will be performed for the recruitment of samples corresponding to patients with known IgE hypersensitivity to BLCs based on results from allergy tests and clinical history. Controls will include: non-allergic individuals with known tolerance to betalactams. The samples will be used for the validation of the COBIOPHAD device in real settings.
Diagnostic Accuracy of the MADx Multi Array Xplorer (MAX 45k) Automated Laboratory System and the...
Birch Pollen AllergyGrass Pollen Allergy4 moreAbout 20% of the general population are affected by an allergy - with an upward trend. Quite often, allergic people do not consider their disease as serious and suffer from subsequent complications, like allergic asthma, later in their life. The sooner the allergen source is identified, the sooner the therapeutic intervention (e.g. dietary recommendations, allergen avoidance, anti-inflammatory treatment or allergen immunotherapy) can be started. Cross-reactivity may also play an important role. Therefore, a comprehensive allergy test is essential for an optimal treatment of patients. Modern multiplex testing is an individualized diagnostic approach, which may help to identify eligible patients for allergen immunotherapy and may identify risk groups by analyzing the sIgE profile. Until now, published data on the clinical usability of multiplex allergy diagnostic test systems are often limited. Even though, available studies show a good correlation between conventionally used multiplex or singleplex assays (ISAC or ImmunoCAP) and the new multiplex assay (ALEX and ALEX²), the results are often based on small sample sizes investigating many different allergens. Therefore, this clinical performance study is conducted to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the ALEX² IgE multiplex test using the Multi Array Explorer (MAX 45k, MacroArray Diagnostics) automated laboratory system in comparison to a conventional IgE singleplex test system as well as clinical symptoms and skin prick test results in a total of 826 patients. Patients with the most common inhalant allergies (e.g. grass pollen, house dust mite or cat allergy) will be included as well as patients suffering from Hymenoptera venom allergy, which is the major cause of anaphylaxis.
Neuromuscular Blocking Agents Utilized During Perioperative Hypersensitivity Evaluation
AllergyThe researchers are trying to develop an allergy skin test to help predict allergic responses to medications commonly given to patients during surgery.
Identification of Gluten Sensitivity in Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Non-celiac Gluten SensitivityIrritable Bowel SyndromeThe aim of our study will be to establish in how many subjects with gastrointestinal symptoms and previous diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), the clinical picture is attributable to non celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) or fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols (FODMAPs) intolerance. For this purpose, all subjects with IBS will take a low FODMAPs diet, which implies the absence of cereals and consequently of gluten, and those presenting symptom improvement during this dietary treatment, will be exposed to a double-blind gluten or placebo challenge, to make a diagnosis of NCGS.
