Study to Assess Hypoallergenicity of a New Amino-acid Based Infant Formula in Children With Cow's...
Cow's Milk AllergyThis is a prospective, controlled, multi-country study to verifying the hypoallergenicity of the new amino acid-based formula in infants and children aged< 12 years with documented cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA).
A Pilot Study Investigating the Impact of Different IOL Designs on Subjective 2D and 3D Image Quality...
LensesIntraocular Sensitivity1 moreThe WHO, states that age related cataracts account for 51 percent of worldwide blindness and affect about 20 million people. Surgery with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is the first line treatment for cataracts, thus there is an on going effort to improve IOL design and performance. It is planned to compare three different IOL designs in a psychophysical test setting. Most IOL testing is done in 2D scenarios such as Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) visual acuity or contrast sensitivity testing. The use of 3D scenario would allow testing a more real-life situation. As various downsides of different IOL designs have been reported, testing of IOLs before surgical implantation is a promising approach to maximise patient satisfaction. Known deficiencies include amongst others reduced contrast sensitivity or light intensity. To test three different IOL designs, it is planned to have 2D healthy young subjects look through a stable, table mounted spectacle frame, in which the different IOLs can be inserted. This allows for subjective testing of IOL's in a 2D and 3D scenario.
Characterizing the Role of Pain Sensitivity in Acute to Persistent Low Back Pain
Low Back PainThis research study will examine whether enhanced pain sensitivity increases the risk of persistent low back pain. The study will address the highly prevalent and costly condition of persistent low back pain and a major obstacle for the implementation of clinical strategies to improve patient outcomes. The knowledge gained from this study may lead to a better understanding of the biological mechanisms that contribute to persistent low back pain and will inform future work to develop predictive measures of persistent low back pain risk, evaluative measures to examine treatment efficacy, and possibly biomarker assay(s) to identify patients who are at increased risk of persistent low back pain.
Stretching and Pain Sensitivity
StretchingStretching is frequently used in clinical practice to manage musculoskeletal discomfort and to prevent sports injuries. It is not known if stretching affects pain sensitivity. The purpose of this study is to investigate if a 4 week daily stretching protocol alters pain sensitivity. The investigators hypothesize that stretching reduces pain sensitivity.
Milk Fat Intake and Metabolic Health Markers
Insulin SensitivityType 2 DiabetesThis study investigates the effects of bioactive fatty acids in full fat dairy (whole yogurt), on insulin action, calorie needs, blood lipids, immune function, and body composition in normal and overweight male and female volunteers.
Crustacean Allergy and Dust Mites Sensitization
Food AllergyRespiratory AllergyThis study evaluates the diagnostic efficacy of CAP System (capsulated hydrophilic carrier polymer) for recombinant tropomyosin from shrimp extract in discriminating between subjects allergic to shrimp with CAP positive subjects allergic to mites, crustaceans asymptomatic but with a positive CAP to shrimp, to identify those at greatest risk of food reactions.
Influence of Brain Insulin Sensitivity on Peripheral Insulin Sensitivity
Insulin SensitivityThe researchers will investigate if brain insulin action influences peripheral insulin sensitivity in healthy humans.
High Sensitivity Troponin T Levels Following DC Cardioversion for Atrial Fibrillation / Atrial Flutter...
Atrial FibrillationAtrial FlutterThe purpose of this study is to determine if there is a rise in serum high sensitivity troponin T (a marker for heart muscle injury) following a direct current cardioversion (shock therapy) used for patients with atrial fibrillation. This will help us determine if direct current cardioversion results in damage to the heart muscles in a sufficient amount to cause a rise in high sensitivity troponin T.
Evaluation of a New Self-Assessed, Home-Based Symptom Score Test in Cat Allergic Patients
Cat AllergyThe purpose of this study is to better standardize the symptom recording of cat allergic persons under real-life conditions. A new self-assessed, home-based symptom score will be tested.
Role of Hypersensitivity to Female Sex Hormones in Women With Unexplained Recurrent Pregnancy Loss...
AbortionRecurrentThe EVE- technology is intended for determination of intolerance or sensitivity to female sex hormones among women with hormone-related conditions and for further treatment by desensitization procedure inducing a tolerance to the hormones the women are sensitive to. This study is designed to evaluate the safety and the ability of the EVE- Skin-Test Panel to detect sensitivity to female sex hormones in subjects with Unexplained Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (URPL) and in Control parous, healthy women. The Skin Test Panel includes four female hormones and three control solutions. Hormones from the Skin Test Panel are injected intradermally during the luteal phase of the subject's menstrual cycle. The skin reactions are examined by physician for erythema and wheal after 20 minutes and 48 hours and self-assessed by the patient daily for the following month. Skin response monthly data is analyzed and compared between unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss (UPRL) and healthy groups. Following achievement of the significant differences between both groups the immune profile of the healthy and UPRL subjects will be investigated.
