In the last few years, a new clinical entity has emerged which includes patients who consider themselves to be suffering from problems caused by wheat and/or gluten ingestion, even though they do not have celiac disease (CD) or wheat allergy. This clinical condition has been named non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS), although in a recent article, the investigators suggested the term "non-celiac wheat sensitivity" (NCWS), because it is not known to date what component of wheat actually causes the symptoms. Nickel is the fourth most used metal and the most frequent cause of contact allergy in the industrialized world. As a natural element of the earth's crust small amounts are found in water, soil, and natural foods, especially plant ones. Nickel allergy not only affects the skin but also results in systemic manifestations. Systemic nickel allergy syndrome can have cutaneous (urticaria/angioedema, flares, itching), and/or gastrointestinal (meteorism, colic, diarrhoea) signs and symptoms. In this study, the investigators evaluated 1) the frequency of Nickel allergy and Systemic Nickel allergy syndrome in NCWS patients, and 2) the clinical, serological, and histological characteristics of NCWS patients with contact dermatitis Nickel positive in comparison to NCWS patients without contact dermatitis.

Food allergy is a common chronic condition in childhood. Recent studies have suggested that the natural history of food allergy has changed during the last two decades, with an increased prevalence, severity of clinical manifestations, and risk of persistence into later ages. The increased food allergy prevalence in children has an important economic impact, with significant direct costs for the healthcare system and even larger costs for the families of food-allergic patients. In addition, children with food allergies are at increased risk to develop other allergic manifestations later in life. According to a recent study, children with a food allergy are 2 to 4 times more likely to develop other atopic manifestations such as asthma (4.0 times), atopic eczema (2.4 times), and respiratory allergies (3.6 times), compared to children without a food allergy. Cow's milk allergy is among the most common food allergy in early childhood, with an estimated prevalence of 2% to 3%. It has been previously showed that in children with cow milk allergy, an extensively hydrolysed casein formula supplemented with the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG induced higher tolerance rates compared to extensively hydrolysed casein formula without Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and other formulas. These findings were consistent with those of a 1-year follow-up study performed in the US that showed better outcomes using an extensively hydrolysed casein formula+Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG vs. an extensively hydrolysed casein formula or amino acid-based formula for the first-line dietary management of cow milk allergy. In addition it has been recently demonstrated that extensively hydrolysed casein formula + Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG reduces the incidence of other atopic manifestations and hastens the development of oral tolerance in children with IgE-mediated cow milk allergy. The present randomized controlled trial (RCT) was designed to test whether different dietary interventions could influence the occurrence of other atopic manifestations in children with IgE-mediated cow milk allergy.

Cyanobacteria Allergy in Lake Kineret

People swimming or surfing in lake Kineret , sometimes complain of nasal stuffiness , sneezing and itching .Typically, it happens during or immediately after contact with the lake's water . The symptoms are compatible with immediate allergic reaction. Previous reports suggested a connection between similar symptoms and contact with different cyanobacteria (living in fresh water lakes). In this study we intend to prove the mechanism of these reactions. To prove the exact allergen that causes allergic rhinitis allergists perform skin tests with different suspected allergens. Likewise, we would like to perform skin tests to different proteins extracted from cyanobacteria collected in lake Kineret.

Cat allergy is an increasingly prevalent condition affecting 10-15% of patients with allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and/or asthma. The purpose of this optional observational follow-on study is to further evaluate rhinoconjunctivitis symptoms on exposure to cat dander in the EEC among subjects who completed all dosing visits in study CP005 and all visits in study CP005A approximately two years after the start of treatment.

Improving Nutrient Intake and Growth in Children With Multiple Food Allergies

Food Allergy

Hypothesis 1: Food allergies are associated with poor growth which can be corrected with nutrition intervention. More than 10% of children with multiple food allergies will have a weight-for-age z-score less than - 2 at diagnosis. The z-score is a measure of the distance from the mean value, or 50th percentile on the growth chart. A z-score of less than - 2 indicates that the child is underweight. Growth parameters of children with multiple food allergies will improve after intervention by a team that includes a dietitian and an allergist. Hypothesis 2: Food allergies are associated with low micronutrient intake which can be corrected with nutrition intervention. o More than 30% of children with multiple food allergies will consume less than 67% of the Dietary Reference Intake for at least one macronutrient or micronutrient at diagnosis. Macronutrient and micronutrient intake will increase after intervention by a team that includes a dietitian and an allergist. o • Hypothesis 3: Food allergies are related to behavioral feeding problems which can be corrected with nutrition intervention. At least 25% of children with multiple food allergies will have behavioral feeding problems at diagnosis. Prevalence of behavioral feeding problems will decrease after nutrition intervention.

The purpose of this study is to assess the prevalence of Gluten Sensitivity, by a double-blind placebo-controlled challenge with gluten, followed by two months period of Low-FODMAPs (Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides And Polyols) diet, in patients spontaneously adherent to gluten free diet because of symptoms upon gluten exposure and in whom diagnosis of Celiac Disease and Wheat Allergy has been ruled out.

Multiple Drug Hypersensitivity Syndrome

Background: Multiple drug hypersensitivity syndrome (MDH) is defined as confirmed drug hypersensitivity reactions (DHRs) to at least 2 chemically and pharmacologically unrelated drugs. Reports of MDH are scarce and poorly specified and studies which diagnose MDH on the basis of positive allergy tests are lacking. Objective: To evaluate retrospectively the frequency and characteristics of MDH patients in a large database. Methods: All the patients who consulted and were tested in our Allergy Unit between September 1996 and February 2018, with confirmed MDH will be included. Clinical history and allergy work-up results will be extracted from our Drug Allergy and Hypersensitivity Database (DAHD). The frequency of MDH will be calculated, MDH patients will be described, the most frequent associations of DHRs will be identified and analysed.

Non-celiac Wheat Sensitivity

It has been reported that a consistent percentage of the general population consider themselves to be suffering from problems caused by wheat and/or gluten ingestion, even though they do not have celiac disease or wheat allergy. This clinical condition has been named Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity' (NCGS). In a previous paper the investigators suggested the term 'Non-Celiac Wheat Sensitivity' (NCWS), since it is not known what component of wheat causes the symptoms in NCGS patients, and the investigators also showed that these patients had a high frequency of coexistent multiple food hypersensitivity. To our knowledge, there are very few studies which assessed the prevalence of self-reported gluten-related symptoms in the community and analyze diagnostic outcomes in those referred to secondary gastrointestinal care. In one of these, performed in UK, the authors showed that gluten-related symptoms are self-reported by 13% of the population, with 3.7% consuming a gluten-free diet, despite only 0.8% being aware that they have a formal diagnosis of celiac disease. Of those patients presenting to the gastroenterology department, the majority do not have CD but NCWS. No data are available for boys and girls. Therefore, the aims of this study were 1) to determine the prevalence of self-perceived gluten-sensitivity in a population of high-school students, and 2) to evaluate the demographic and clinical differences between students self-reporting gluten sensitivity and students not reporting food hypersensitivity.
