Vaginal Antimicrobacterial Preparation Before Cesarean Secation for Endometritis Prevention

A Known Allergy to Antiseptic SoapWomen Who Had Any Infection in the Perioperative Period1 more

The investigators designed a randomized controlled trial to evaluate whether perioperative Vaginal preparation is superior to no Vaginal preparation in decreasing post CS endometritis. Since CS is performed in about 30% of all births and infection complicates 6-11% of all CS reducing the rate of this post CS complication can have a major impact not only on the hospital occupancy and costs but also on the new mother experience and ability to face the challenge that awaits for her with her newborn. In this study patients will be randomly assigned into two groups. The experiment group will not undergo any vaginal preparation. The control will undergo perioperative vaginal preparation with antiseptic soap followed by chlorohexidine-alcohol Both groups will be checked for cervical dilation with sterile gloves before surgery. Primary outcome - signs of endometritis (e.g. erythema around surgical scar, discharge or pain). Patients will be followed daily until discharge. A blood count will be drewn before discharge to rule out signs of infection. Patients will be contacted 6 weeks after surgery by telephone to inquire about any signs of infection, Emergency Room visits or ambulatory visits to the doctor due to endometritis. The participants will be asked if they had positive skin culture or other wound complications such as cellulitis, seroma or scar separation. The investigators estimated that 1040 patients will have to enroll into the study, 520 in each group in order to have 80% power to detect 50% difference in the endometritis rates between the two groups with a two tailed α level of 0.05. The data analysis was conducted according to the per-protocol principle.

Hypersensitivity Reactions to Propofol in Children

HypersensitivityAllergy2 more

The investigators would only include the children who received propofol (Propolipid, Fresenius Kabi, Schelle, Belgium) for sedation, the investigators would exclude the children that didn't receive propofol during the procedure. The investigators would analyze the incidence of hypersensitivity reaction to propofol in children allergic to egg, soy or both egg and soy and to compare those with the incidence of hypersensitivity reactions in children without allergy to egg and/or to soy. Those data were retrieved following longitudinal follow-up after the intervention. Allergy tests by skin and radioallergosorbent tests were performed in all children before the gastrointestinal endoscopy under anesthesia took place, but no results were known at the time of the sedation. A patient was defined as allergic to egg and/or soy if the patient had specific S-IgE level more than the normal level set by our institution (0.35 kU/L). The investigators would also investigate the influence of other obtained parameters in the dataset (age, ASA score, weight category, type of investigation, respiratory and neurological comorbidities, respiratory infections, GERD, other allergies) on those results with multivariate analysis. We considered that clinical features suggesting a hypersensitivity reaction present during anaesthesia were cutaneous, respiratory or cardiovascular manifestations. Depending on the severity of the reaction, necessitating prompt hemodynamic resuscitation with the administration of epinephrine, antihistamines, inhaled beta-agonists or corticosteroids.

Development of a Novel Method to Measure Insulin Sensitivity in Humans: A Pilot Study

Insulin Sensitivity

This study will determine whether the ratio between 24h C-peptide urinary excretion rate and average 24h circulating glucose represent a good correlate of what is measured by the gold standard, i.e. M (glucose disposal rate) from a euglycemic-hyperinsulinemic clamp

Characteristics of Patients With Hypersensitivity Reactions to Intravenous Iron Infusions

Iron-deficiencyHypersensitivity Reactions

This study aims to evaluate characteristics of patients with previous hypersensitivity reaction grades I-IV to intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject) or to iron sucrose (Venofer) including age, atopy status, previous allergic reactions, previous medical history, current medications and co-morbidities. Furthermore, symptoms on reaction such as severity grade of reaction will be evaluated.

A Scalp Lotion Toimprove Sensitive Scalp Syndrome

AlopeciaSensitive Skin

Overall, 100 Caucasian subjects participated in this 6-weeks lasting study, AC5+ was applied daily. All subjects had clinically confirmed mild to moderate alopecia and self-declared sensitive scalp. Instrumental assessments included Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL), inflammation markers, clinical assessments included the severity of erythema, inflammation and greasiness. Subjective/Self assessments comprised the intensity of the scalp itch/pruritus and the evaluation of their head hair status (volume, abundance, strength). Same assessments were provided by the investigators.

AMR-DetecTool for the Diagnostic of MDR Bacterial Infections

Bacterial Sensitivity TestsAntimicrobial Drug Resistance

The fight against bacteria is one of the greatest challenges faced by societies, especially with the spread of multi drug resistant (MDR) bacteria. The failure to stop the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is due to a lack of fast detection methods and proper strategies. Novel, rapid and reliable detection and characterization tests are an urgent need for differentiating between bacterial and viral infections and identifying AMR, so that the most appropriate treatment can be given in a timely manner. AMR-DetecTool or NG Detectool is a detection system for the direct detection of AMR in clinical samples. The clinical sample is directly processed and a result indicating if the bacteria are resistant to the most relevant antibiotics is immediately shown. It allows for a dramatic reduction in the treatment decision time upon sample reception from 24 hours (current workflow) to 15-30 minutes.

Study of the Influence of the Expression of the Calcium-sensitive Receptor (CaSR) by Monocytes in...

ArthritisRheumatoid

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most frequent form of chronic inflammatory rheumatism in adults. The erosive damage influences the functional prognosis in patients with RA. At present, there are no sufficiently sensitive and specific predictive markers of erosive damage.

Coreg and HSRs-Updated Analysis

Hypersensitivity

A cluster of reports of hypersensitivity reactions among patients who switched from carvedilol (immediate release formulation, referred to hereafter as carvedilol) to carvedilol extended release was received during the initial post-launch period of carvedilol extended release. In follow up to this observation, product labeling for both agents was updated and a nested case control study was subsequently conducted to examine the risk of serious hypersensitivity reactions i.e. anaphylactic reaction and/or angioedema among patients who used carvedilol extended release compared to carvedilol and separately compared to other long acting beta(β)-blockers. This proposed analysis is an update to the previously conducted analysis using the same database, LabRx, now containing 2 additional years of data, which should provide a larger number of carvedilol extended release exposed subjects.
