Neural Correlates of Sensory Phenomena in Tourette Syndrome

Tourette SyndromeSensory Disorders2 more

The most pervasive sensory manifestation of TS is sensory over-responsivity (SOR). SOR is defined as excessive behavioral response to commonplace environmental stimuli. SOR is an integral but poorly understood facet of the TS phenotype, one intertwined with core elements of the disorder and worse QOL. This proposal seeks to clarify the mechanistic bases of SOR in TS. Adults with with TS will be recruited 1) to complete a standardized clinical symptom assessment battery and 2) to undergo electroencephalogram (EEG), autonomic, and audio-visual monitoring during tactile and auditory stimuli paradigms, as well as at rest.

A Registry for the Food Allergy Community

Food HypersensitivityAnaphylaxis4 more

The FARE Patient Registry will serve as a prospective, observational food allergy reporting system that stores detailed health and other basic information about patients' real-world experiences with food allergies, to encourage open sharing of de-identified data and participation in clinical trials. The FARE Patient Registry intends to make and support scientific discoveries by enabling the food allergy community to participate directly in research.

Biomarkers of Liposomal Doxorubicin Induced Hypersensitivity Reaction in Breast Cancer Patients...

Liposomal Doxorubicin Induced Hypersensitivity Reaction in Breast Cancer Patients

Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) was an anthracycline nanomedicine to be approved for advanced breast cancer and other solid tumor therapy and showed a good disease control rate (57%). PLD could induce hypersensitivity reaction (HSR). There are about 9-25% patients got infusion reaction or HSR. Severe HSR could lead to allergic shock even presyncope or threat to life. To our knowledge, there were no sensitivity biomarker to predict the PLD induced HSR. And the mechanism of PLD induced HSR is unknown yet. Therefore, to analyze and discuss the biomarkers and mechanism of PLD induced HSR in advanced breast cancer, we design this prospective, observational, biomarker study.

Feasibility Study of a New Immunoglobulin E (IgE) Assay Method

Allergy and Immunology

The main objective is to study the feasibility of a new specific IgE assay using a bioluminescence technique in a pediatric and adult allergic population. For this, we will collect blood, and urine during a blood test scheduled for the follow-up of the patient.

Study To Evaluate The Sensitivity Of The Linda Thermal Device

DeviceThermography1 more

The LINDA thermal device consists of a thermal camera attachable to a cell phone and an application for connection with an artificial intelligence program based on a convolutional neural network for classification of thermographic breast images. The system is previously fed with thermographic images of the breast and their respective results/diagnostics. The images are processed in an automated way and return a percentage of chance of having a pathological pattern.

Acquisition and Long-term Observation of Patients With Severe Allergic Reactions

Anaphylaxis

The Anaphylaxis Registry aims to assess data in a standardized form about symptoms, triggers, cofactors and therapy management from patients who experienced an anaphylactic reaction. This should improve diagnosis and long-term management of these life-threatening allergic reactions.

Fish Oil Supplementation During Pregnancy for Prevention of Asthma, Eczema and Allergies in Childhood...

AsthmaEczema1 more

The aim of this study is to prevent asthma and allergies in childhood by supplementation with fish oil (n-3 fatty acids) to the mother during pregnancy. Paticipants are mother and children participating in the ABC-(Asthma Begins in Childhood)cohort. Mothers are recruited during pregnancy and receive supplement with n-3 fatty acids or olive oil (placebo) from week 24 of gestation to 1 week after delivery. The child is followed with acute and planned visit at the research unit and diagnosis of disease is done in the research unit according to predefined algorithms.

A Comprehensive Evaluation of the Impact of ATP on Laryngeal Symptoms, Hypersensitivity and Function...

Chronic Refractory Cough

OBJECTIVES To deliver a comprehensive model of laryngeal assessment, evaluating both the sensory and motor components of upper airway control and to relate this to symptom disturbance. Determine if laryngeal control is altered by coughing and the impact of repeated coughing on overall laryngeal control and relaxation to its baseline state. Evaluate if cell damage and tissue inflammation (including exposure to ATP) modulates laryngeal hypersensitivity and function, by using a comprehensive array of test modalities. AIM To utilise state-of-the-art comprehensive assessment tools to evaluate laryngeal hypersensitivity and function in a cohort of individuals with chronic refractory cough and control subjects. The test modalities utilise direct stimulation of the laryngeal adductor reflex, measurement of laryngeal EMG and assessment of functional laryngeal response to an inhalational challenge with laryngoscopic techniques. HYPOTHESIS Physiological markers of laryngeal hypersensitivity and dysfunction are highly prevalent in patients with chronic refractory cough and manifestations are driven by ATP stimulation. OUTCOME MEASURES Measurements of laryngeal symptomatology will be measured over a run-in period and during challenge testing. Laryngeal relaxation will be studied using our novel tracking software capability, combining endoscopic imaging and physiological measurements of diaphragm activation.
