A Trial of Immunological Outcomes of Sublingual Immunotherapy for House Dust Mite (D. Pteronyssinus)...
Allergic RhinitisAsthmaAllergic diseases represent a major health issue worldwide. Mainstay treatment is allergen avoidance and pharmacotherapy for symptom relief. Allergen immunotherapy offers the advantages of specific treatment with long lasting efficacy, and can modify the course of disease. However, use of this treatment is restricted by the high risk of adverse events especially in asthmatics. Other, better tolerated, routes of allergen administration than the current conventional subcutaneous route (SCIT) have been investigated including sublingual (SLIT). However, the immune parameters of SLIT have not been examined. We propose conducting a randomised, placebo-controlled study of a commercially-available SLIT for house dust mite (HDM) allergy to investigate induction of relevant T cell regulatory immune mechanisms. The first year will be followed by an optional open label extension period. Immunoregulatory cytokine synthesis and T cell phenotype and function (real time PCR and flow cytometry) will be examined. This project will provide important fundamental knowledge on which to base improved and greater application of this potentially curative treatment for allergy. SLIT has the potential advantage of home administration and suitability for patients with asthma who are currently unable to access many of the allergen desensitising regimens.
Compare the Efficacy of Levocetirizine to Montelukast in Reducing Symptoms of SAR in Sensitive Subjects...
RhinitisAllergic1 moreTo compare the clinical efficacy of levocetirizine 5 mg and montelukast 10 mg, administered once daily during two consecutive days, on symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis occurring in subjects exposed to ragweed pollen in an environmental exposure unit.
Effects of Loratadine/Montelukast vs Pseudoephedrine and Placebo in Patients With Seasonal Allergic...
RhinitisAllergic1 moreThis is a Phase 3, randomized, parallel-group, multicenter, double-dummy, double-blind study with a screening period. Subjects will receive one of the following three treatment groups for 15 days: loratadine 10 mg/montelukast 10 mg combination, pseudoephedrine 240 mg, or placebo. The primary objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of the combination of loratadine/montelukast, a once-daily tablet containing 10 mg loratadine and 10 mg montelukast, compared with placebo in subjects with seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR) in relieving the symptom of nasal congestion. The safety profile of combined loratadine/montelukast relative to placebo and pseudoephedrine will also be evaluated.
Study to Assess the Effect of a Combination of Cetirizine With Pseudoephedrine Versus Cetirizine...
Seasonal Allergic RhinitisThe aim of this study is to assess the efficacy on nasal congestion and other allergic symptoms and the onset of action of an oral combination of cetirizine and pseudoephedrine in comparison to the single substances under controlled pollen exposure in an Environmental Challenge Chamber (ECC).
Long Term Safety Of GW685698X Via Nasal Biopsy
RhinitisAllergic1 moreLong term safety (52 weeks) of GW685698X on the nasal mucosa via nasal biopsy with an active control group (Nasonex®) and a healthy volunteers control group in subjects 18 years old with perennial allergic rhinitis . Allergic rhinitis is an inflammatory disorder of the upper airway that occurs following allergen exposure. Perennial allergic rhinitis is triggered by house dust mites, animal dander, etc., possibly causing symptoms year-round including nasal congestion, rhinorrhea and/or nasal itching.
