Major DepressionPain1 morePatients with major depressive disorder (MDD) commonly have many gastrointestinal complaints. Gastrointestinal pain is classified into 2 categories: visceral and somatic pain. The main aim of this study is to compare somatic and visceral sensitivity between healthy people and pateints with MDD. These two sensitivities will be assessed by the 2 following tests: standardized rectal distension and Transdermal transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation. Thereafter, patients with MDD will be randomly allocated to escitalopram or reboxetine. After 6 weeks of treatment, somatic and visceral sensitivity will be reassessed.

PainOxytocin is neurohypophysial peptide that acts mainly as a neuromodulator in the brain. In addition,oxytocin have an important roles in sexual reproduction , in particular during and after childbirth. It facilitates birth, maternal bonding, and, breastfeeding. Nasal oxytocin has been commonly used to improve breastfeeding in lactating women. A review of safety , side effects and subjective reaction to intranasal oxytocin in human research in 1529 subjects did not review any differences from placebo. The vast majority of basic science studies suggested a large effect of oxytocin in minimizing acute pain.4 Few studies have demonstrated an association between plasma levels of oxytocin and pain in humans. No studies have examined the effect of intranasal oxytocin on pain sensitivity and threshold. Since addictive properties of oxytocin have not been described, the drug may have important application in the management of acute and chronic pain. The main objective of the current investigation was to evaluate the effect of intranasal oxytocin on pain sensitivity and threshold in human volunteers. We hypothesized that intranasal oxytocin, in human volunteers ,would decrease sensitivity and and increase pain threshold compared to intranasal saline . Significance: Intranasal oxytocin may become a viable treatment for acute and chronic pain in humans.

Several studies in progress are investigating the efficacy and safety of cefazolin compared with antistaphylococcal penicillins. Cefazolin has broader spectrum than antistaphylococcal penicillins. The hypothesis of this project is that cefazoline could be responsible for a higher rate of bacterial resistance. The aim is to study the association between the emergence of bacterial resistance and the consumption of cefazolin and antistaphylococcal penicillins.

Validation of the French Version of the Pain Sensitivity Questionnaire
Scheduled SurgeryHealthy VolunteersThe Pain Sensitivity Questionnaire (PSQ) is a tool created in 2009 by Dr. R. Ruscheweyh in Germany. It aims at identifying the natural sensitivity to pain, through a set of 17 simple questions. These questions simulate daily life situations likely to induce pain of various intensities. The internal validity of the tool had been demonstrated both for the original version in German, and then for its English version. The external validity had also been demonstrated by correlation to real nociceptive stimulations applied to healthy volunteers (German version), and to patients before surgery (English version). A French validation of the questionnaire is needed, in order to integrate it in pain research programs in French-speaking countries.

Quality of LifeThis study will allow us to determine the perceived Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL) a year after ICU discharge, and compare it with HRQL measured earlier on in the process, as well as analyse the negative experiences they had while in the ICU and as a result of MV and their impact over time. It will also allow us to assess the effect of Nursing Sensitive Outcomes and ICU stressors on health-related outcomes and how they affect HRQL.
