The Effect of Stretching Intensity on Pain Sensitivity
Pain ThresholdStretching2 moreThe primary objective of this study is to determine the immediate efficiency of stretching intensity on regional and distant pain sensitivity in healthy subjects. It is hypothesized that the analgesic effect of stretching may be linked with the intensity of stretching in a dose-response relationship.
Methods Decreasing Bleeding in Open Myomectomy
Misoprostol AllergyOxytocin Allergy5 moreUterine leiomyomas (fibroids or myomas) are benign, smooth muscle tumors of the human uterus. Most myomas are asymptomatic (symptomless) and are discovered incidentally during a routine pelvic examination or imaging studies and have a lifetime incidence of approximately 70% in the general population . However, Approximately 20-40% of women with fibroids experience significant symptoms and consult gynecologic care. The most common clinical symptoms include abnormal uterine bleeding, dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain, infertility, and recurrent pregnancy loss The standard treatment of symptomatic leiomyomas is Abdominal myomectomy Blood loss during myomectomy can be intra-operative or postoperative and with hematoma formation. The average volume of blood loss during abdominal myomectomy is 200 to 800 ml. massive blood loss associated with the dissection of huge fibroids renders myomectomy a more technically challenging procedure than hysterectomy. Sometimes myomectomy is converted to hysterectomy intra-operatively when bleeding becomes heavy and uncontrollable or when it is impossible to reconstruct the uterus because of the many defects left by removal of multiple myomas . Many techniques are used to reduce blood loss during myomectomy; preoperative measures such as correction of preoperative anemia associated with menorrhagia may be treated with iron supplementation, use of gonadotropin (GHG) triggers prior to surgery. Intra-operative measures as use of tourniquet around the uterus during the operation, injections of Vasopressin or other vasopressors as epinephrine in the uterine muscle and use of ecbolic (misoprostol, oxytocin, and carbetocin etc.). Uterine artery ligation, embolization, or internal iliac artery ligation may also be used to avoid hysterectomy when heavy bleeding is anticipated or occurs during myomectomy
Quaternary Ammonium and Immunization in Hairdressers
Quaternary AmmoniumHypersensitivity"Quaternary ammonium ions (QA) are surfactants and microbicide products found in a large number of household products, disinfectants and cosmetics. Professional exposure to QA causes allergic diseases of the skin and lung (asthma). It is also the firs cause of occupational rhinitis since 2000. Several studies have found a link between exposure to some disinfectants and asthma in specific population. Moreover, a study showed that exposure to QA found in hairdressing products could also be a risk factor to allergy to neuro-muscular blocking agents. However, the prevalence of QA sensitization amongst hairdressers is not known, sensitization mechanisms have been poorly characterized. To date, there is no recommendation regarding QA exposure nor classification of QA by toxicity. Finally, the link between hairdressing QA and drug allergy have not been confirmed yet. The investigator hypothesize that it is possible to sensitize to QA by exposure to hairdressing products and then to declare allergic diseases. The investigator plan to study this hypothesis in an observational prospective cohort of hairdressing students by measuring both sensitization markers in blood and QA exposure. "
Behavioral Exposure for Introceptive Tolerance RCT
Exercise SensitivityIntroceptive Exposure2 moreBehavioral Exposure for Interoceptive Tolerance (BE-FIT) is a mechanism-informed behavioral intervention to target exercise anxiety. The three primary components of BE-FIT include: (1) exposure to feared bodily sensations and exercise; (2) prevention of safety behavior use before/during/after exercise, and (3) use of a wrist-worn activity monitor for PA feedback and activity goal setting. Evidence from our Stage I trial indicated that BE-FIT is feasible, acceptable, and safe and produced reductions in exercise anxiety and increased exercise outcomes (short-term moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity and steps/day). Our present aim is to conduct a Stage II randomized-controlled trial to further evaluate the efficacy of BE-FIT in decreasing exercise anxiety in CR patients and examine whether changes in this target yield successive changes in exercise adherence outcomes.
Assessment of Injectable Medication Platforms
Overdose AntidoteBleeding1 moreBackground: While medical advances for in-hospital care rapidly evolve, a mainstay of effective pre-hospital care remains the ability to treat medical emergencies such as anaphylaxis, prolonged seizure, overdose, or uncontrolled bleeding, through rapid administration of appropriate medication. Autoinjectors are used globally to deliver medications in a timely manner, often in environments where immediate access to medical facilities is limited. Rapid administration of intramuscular medication delivery is essential where oral or intravenous delivery is either not possible or ineffective. The purpose of the proposed study seeks to determine the efficiency various types of medication injection administration.

Study to Assess Tolerance of Traces in Peanut/Tree Nut Allergic Children.
Food AllergyPeanut Allergy1 moreThis protocol will help better define whether patients with peanut and/or tree nut food allergy can tolerate traces in products with precautionary allergen labelling.
Pain Sensitivity During Puberty
PainAim 1- To examine the differences in pain sensitivity between adolescents at early vs. mid pubertal status Aim 2- To determine the relationships between sex hormone levels and pain sensitivity Exploratory Aim 1- To determine the effect of pubertal maturation on pain sensitivity Exploratory Aim 2- To identify parameters related to who will develop chronic pain during puberty Hypothesis 1- Adolescents in early pubertal status will have higher pain ratings and lower pain modulation capabilities compared to adolescents in mid puberal status. Hypothesis 2- Pain sensitivity will be associated with sex hormone levels. Exploratory Hypothesis 1- As adolescents mature, they will have a decrease in pain sensitivity to experimental pain which will be related to changes in sex hormone levels. Exploratory hypothesis 2- Female adolescents with greater pain sensitivity, lower testosterone levels and with a family history of pain would be at a higher risk to develop chronic pain
Virtual Reality: Its Effect on Physical Activity Intensity and Pain Sensitivity
Physical ActivityThe purpose of this research study is to evaluate physical activity intensity levels, enjoyment, and pain perception during virtual reality (VR) active games in healthy young adults.
Effect of Over-the-counter NSAIDS on Cough Reflex Sensitivity in Patients With Upper Respiratory...
CoughUpper Respiratory Tract InfectionsThe goal of this mechanism of disease study is to investigate the effect of flurbiprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), on the cough hypersensitivity associated with upper respiratory tract infections (URTI). The main questions it aims to answer are: Q1: Does a single treatment with an approved therapeutic dose of flurbiprofen, an NSAID that prevents the production of prostaglandins, acutely reduce objective measures of cough hypersensitivity in participants with URTI? Q2: Is the effect of flurbiprofen on cough hypersensitivity in URTI related to participant subjective ratings of acute cough severity? Q3: Is the effect of flurbiprofen on cough hypersensitivity in URTI related to the levels of prostaglandins or other inflammatory markers measurable in upper airway secretions? Participants will be asked to undergo cough challenge testing, complete quality of life questionnaires, and have their nasal fluid, saliva and pharyngeal secretions sampled before and after a single treatment with flurbiprofen in the form of a lozenge or spray. Participants in the comparator arms of the study will instead receive a placebo lozenge or low dose flurbiprofen spray.
