Intergenerational Reminiscence and Digital Storytelling

Alzheimer Disease

The goal of this clinical trial is to develop and test how reminiscence offered by trained young adult volunteers using a digital storytelling (DST) platform may help older persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) to improve their social and emotional well-being. The main questions it aims to answer are: Whether is this reminiscence and DST based intervention effective in improving social and emotional well-being of older adults with ADRD? Whether do young adult participants improve their social and emotional well-being as well as knowledge and attitudes towards aging after participating this study? Older adult participants in the intervention group will receive 6 sessions of life-review with young adult volunteers and create a DST based on their life review discussion in the last 4 weeks. Older adult participants in the social wellness control group will receive 6 sessions of general talks with young adults and create a non-digital scrapbook or journal at week 7-10. Researchers will compare these two groups to see if participants in the intervention group benefit more on their well-being.

Effect of Soundscape on People With Dementia.

DementiaBehavioural and Psychiatric Symptoms of Dementia

In the last few decades, insights into the impact of the sonic environment on persons have grown to include not only the adverse effects of extensive mechanical noise but also the beneficial effects of a well-designed sonic environment. People with dementia, however, perceive and understand the sonic environment differently. The most obvious difference is that the meanings they may give to the sounds they notice due to changing mental associations. However, also at an earlier perceptual stage, attention focusing and gating may be affected, reducing their ability to analyze a complex auditory scene. Behaviour associated with the appraisal of the sound environment may change with the emergence of dementia. The objective of this study is to determine the effect size of a carefully tuned personalized sonic environment (delivered via AcustiCare) on agitation and distress (NPI and PAS), night sleep and stress (Via wristband) and on quality of life (QUALIDEM) in a population of older adults with dementia and behavioural symptoms.

"Healthy Actions and Lifestyles to Avoid Dementia or Hispanos y el ALTo a la Demencia Program"

DementiaAlzheimer's Disease1 more

This initial four-months pilot study will focus on at least three educational courses (introduction to dementia and lifestyle risk factors, sleep and diet). It may also include a fourth educational course on social connectivity and loneliness. Completion of this initial pilot study will allow for a round of improvements informed by data from the program, on usability, as well as feedback from participants and citizen advisors. This will allow for an iterative process to build the program to its full content, with feedback to optimize the user experience and ensure the accessibility of the content. The information generated from this study will help inform the development of the second program's prototype, expected to benefit from the initial pilot to become more user-friendly, effective and accessible to the target audience. This pilot study will be a longitudinal study of an inception cohort exposed to the HALT-AD online educational program for a four-month study. It will utilize pre- and post- intervention collection of quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate the program's first prototype.

Care to Plan: a Tailored Resource for Family Members of Persons With Dementia

DementiaAlzheimer Disease1 more

The present study will refine and conduct a preliminary efficacy evaluation of Care to Plan. Care to Plan is an online care planning tool that provides a succinct and clear overview of various types of dementia caregiver interventions, administers a brief validated assessment of risk, and generates individualized recommendations for dementia caregivers as well as resources that link users to a selected recommendation. There remains a lack of individualized information that can directly meet the diverse needs of caregivers or their relatives with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia (ADRD).
