Application of Amyloid PET in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy

Cerebral Amyloid AngiopathyIntracranial Hemorrhages1 more

In this project, we will try to enhance the diagnostic potentials of amyloid PET in CAA by combination of dynamic amyloid PET with MRI SWI and MR perfusion images. We will also try to investigate the roles of CAA in patients with drug-related ICH and validate the accuracy of clinical CAA diagnostic criteria. In addition, we will try to study the characteristics of long-term progression of amyloid deposition in CAA patients. This project will enroll 100 patients with ICH, 30 patients with AD, and 30 control subjects. Each patient will receive the above image studies, followed by data analysis and comparison.

Neurofeedback as a Novel Treatment for Mild Cognitive Impairment & Early Alzheimer's Disease

Mild Cognitive ImpairmentAlzheimer Disease

This study protocol proposes an EEG based neurofeedback (EEG-NFB) technique to upregulate the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) in patients suffering from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early Alzheimer's disease (AD). EEG-NFB has been successfully used as a clinical tool for over 40 years. It is based on electrical activity measured near the surface of the brain using EEG and fed back to the patient within half a second. MCI is a clinical condition considered as a precursor of AD. NFB appears to be a promising approach to treat MCI, since it has been shown to be able to induce changes in brain plasticity. This research focuses on the PCC, which has been reported to be implicated in MCI, and due to its location (proximity to the surface) accessible by means of EEG- NFB. A preliminary research in MCI patients, conducted at our lab showed the lower the memory score was at the beginning of the training, the better a subject managed to improve later on. The investigators therefore presume that patients with early Alzheimer's disease, whose cognitive ability is more affected compared to MCI, may benefit from EEG-NFB as well, and maybe to a larger extent compared to MCI.

Imaging Tau in Alzheimer's Disease and Normal Aging

Alzheimer Disease

This study is being done to learn about tau tangles in Alzheimer's disease. A type of positron emission tomography (PET) scan is used to measure the abnormal accumulation of protein called tau in the brain. These are thought to be involved in Alzheimer's disease. The investigators will also perform brain MRI and to tests to measure the participant's memory and thinking.

Follow up 18F-AV-1451 Scan in Confirmatory Cohort Subjects From Study 18F-AV-1451-A05

Alzheimer's Disease

This study will evaluate longitudinal change of tau deposition as measured by flortaucipir F 18 uptake over time.

The Interactive Physical and Cognitive Exercise System

Alzheimer DiseaseEarly Onset6 more

This study is intended to clarify the benefits to brain health and thinking processes that result from different forms of exercise. In particular, this study will investigate the possible benefits of physical exercise (such as pedaling an under-table stationary elliptical) or mental exercise (such as playing a videogame on a portable tablet), or combining these activities together (as in the iPACES™ exergame).

Tau Imaging in Professional Fighters

Alzheimer's Disease

Subjects enrolled in the Professional Fighters Brain Health Study (PFBHS) will receive flortaucipir to explore its use as a biomarker for brain injury related to repetitive head trauma and to examine the relationship between clinical presentation and tau deposition.

A Study of Flortaucipir PET in Healthy Volunteers and Cognitively Impaired Subjects

Alzheimer's Disease

This study will test if two flortaucipir PET scans up to 4 weeks apart in healthy volunteers, MCI and AD subjects provide the same results.

The Feasibility of Florbetapir Quantitation

Alzheimers Disease

The overall objective of the study is to assess the feasibility of implementing a quantitative process of florbetapir F 18 scan interpretation. The hypothesis is that the use of quantitative analysis will increase the accuracy of florbetapir F 18 scan interpretation.

Alzheimer's Prevention Through Exercise

Alzheimer's Disease

The purpose of this study is to learn about the possible benefits of aerobic exercise in controlling or reducing the amount of amyloid present in the brain, reducing changes in brain structure that may lead to Alzheimer's Disease (AD), and increasing cognitive ability in individuals that have amyloid deposits and are at risk to develop AD.
