Minnesota Inclusive LTSS for LGBTQ Seniors

Alzheimer DiseaseDementia

This study is designed to help improve the care of sexual and gender minority (SGM) with Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease Related Dementia (AD/ADRD) in long-term services and supports (LTSS) by training the state's LTSS workforce in SGM culturally responsive care. The randomized controlled trial will rigorously test the effects of an in person versus an online training program on improving SGM culturally responsive care with a waitlist control.

Dementia Care Partner Hospital Assessment Tool

Alzheimer DiseaseDementia

The purpose of this study is to see whether an adapted questionnaire called the Care Partner Hospital Assessment Tool (CHAT) for care partners of hospitalized patients living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) (CHAT-AD) can help people with dementia receive better care after they go home from the hospital. Participants will be a care partner ('family member or friend') who provides unpaid care to a hospitalized adult relative or partner to help them take care of themselves because of dementia. Participants can expect to be in this study for 14 days.

An Integrated Intervention of Computerized Cognitive Training and Physical Exercise in Virtual Reality...

Alzheimer Disease

JDOME is a randomized controlled trial to test the effectiveness of a computerized cognitive training with the Brainer web platform and aerobic training with the JDOME system vs. a computerized cognitive training with the Brainer web platform and aerobic training with a standard exercise bike in subjects with Alzheimer's Disease at early stage. The JDome BikeAround is a tool that take people with dementia on a virtual bicycle tour along the paths of memories. It combines an exercise bike, a dome-shaped projector and Google Street View technology.

Lifestyle Interventions for the Treatment of Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease Study

Alzheimer DiseaseEarly Onset

The purpose of this study is to generate preliminary data on the benefit of computerized cognitive training and Tai Chi- Qi Gong training in participants with Early-Onset Alzheimer's Disease. It is hypothesized that participants in the experimental training condition will perform better on outcomes related to cognition, functioning, and mood at follow-up compared to participants assigned to the active control condition.

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy

Alzheimer Disease 10Dementia3 more

The concept of cognitive stimulation in AD is one of the most popular approaches. Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is stated to be evidence-based best practice with robust clinical trials, administered according to specific guidelines for individuals with mild to moderate dementia. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effects of CST application on the levels of apathy, loneliness, anxiety and daily living activities in elderly individuals with Alzheimer's disease. This research was planned in an experimental research design with a single center and pretest posttest control group. The research was planned to be carried out between January 2023 and June 202 at the Moral House of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, Department of Disabled and Health Services. Introductory Information Form, Standardized Mini-Mental Test, Geriatric Anxiety Scale, Apathy Rating Scale, Loneliness Scale and Functional Disability in Dementia Scale will be used in the research. CST will be administered by a researcher trained in therapy, 2 days a week, for a total of 14 sessions of 45-50 minutes. There will be a pre-test before the application, an intermediate test right after the application, and a post-test three months later. Research data will be evaluated in SPSS 25.0 New York package program.

First-In-Human (FIH), Single Ascending Dose (SAD) Study of FluoroEthylNorMemantine (FENM)

PTSDAlzheimer Disease4 more

The goal of this First-In-Human (FIH) trial is to learn about safety and PharmacoKinetics (PK) in healthy adult volunteers. The main questions it aims to answer are: What is the safety of single ascending doses of the FluoroEthylNorMemantine (FENM)? What is the PK profile of single ascending doses of the FENM in human? What is the preliminary exploratory time course of Brain Disease Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) plasmatic levels of single ascending doses of the FENM? Participants will receive one single oral dose of FENM.

LEADing Dementia End-of-Life Planning Conversations

Alzheimer DiseaseMild Cognitive Impairment

Advance care planning is important for all adults, but perhaps even more so for the 5.7 million persons with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia (ADRD), due to the progressive and protracted cognitive deterioration associated with the disease process. In the context of ADRD, medical decision-making at the end of life is typically left to one's care partner, who often does not have the knowledge or confidence in their ability to make such decisions. This study will refine and evaluate a web-based platform, called the LEAD Intervention (Life-Planning in Early Alzheimer's and other Dementias), which is designed to help persons in the preclinical or early stage of ADRD engage in conversations about, document, and share their end-of-life values and preferences with a care partner, extended family members, and health care providers.

Developing a Communication Intervention for People With Memory Changes and Their Caregivers

Alzheimer DiseaseDementia

The proposed research is consistent with broader public health goals focused on improving communication regarding end-of-life care and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) call for increased patient engagement in advance care planning (ACP) as part of standard care. The proposed study will address this public health issue by developing a communication-based intervention designed to improve Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) patients' and care partners' understanding of the disease trajectory, engagement in ACP, distress and care partner burden, and completion of advance directives and receipt of goal-concordant care at the end-of-life. Therefore, this study is aligned with the National Institute on Aging's long-term goal to improve the quality of care for ADRD patients and CMS's goal to increase engagement in ACP.

Mild Cognitive ImpairmentAlzheimer Disease2 more

The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of coenzyme Q10 supplementation (150 mg/b.i.d, 300 mg/d, 12 weeks) on coenzyme Q10, glucose parameters, BDNF, myokines, and cognitive function in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients who combined with hyperglycemia but without sarcopenia, or with hyperglycemia and pre-sarcopenia.
