Evaluation and Treatment of Iron Deficiency in Ovarian Cancer Patients

Epithelial Ovarian CancerAnemia1 more

This study tests the hypothesis that IV iron sucrose infusions given to iron deficient ovarian cancer patients prior to debulking surgery can improve pre-operative iron stores and decrease transfusion of packed red blood cells in the peri-operative period. 21 participants at least 18 years of age with epithelial ovarian cancer of any stage requiring neoadjuvant chemotherapy and surgery will be enrolled. Participants will be on study for a period of up to 3 months.

Epoetin Beta in Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy for Solid Tumors

AnemiaUnspecified Adult Solid Tumor1 more

RATIONALE: Epoetin beta may cause the body to make more red blood cells and may prevent or reduce side effects in patients undergoing chemotherapy for solid tumors. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well epoetin beta works in patients undergoing chemotherapy for solid tumors.

Darbepoetin Alfa and Anemia of Cancer

AnemiaAnemia of Cancer4 more

This phase 2, multicenter, randomized, open-label, comparative study was designed to determine the effect of darbepoetin alfa on hospital days, economic outcomes, and health related quality of life (HRQOL) in anemic patients with nonmyeloid malignancies who were not receiving chemotherapy. Participants were randomly assigned in a 4:1 allocation ratio to receive either 21 weeks of darbepoetin alfa treatment (treatment group) or 12 weeks of observation followed by up to 9 weeks of darbepoetin alfa treatment (observation group).

Prostatic NeoplasmsAnemia

The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not Aranesp® (Darbepoetin Alfa), administered every fourth week, is effective in the treatment of blood shortage (anemia) compared to standard care of treatment (blood transfusions) in patients with anemia due to hormone refractory prostate cancer.

Efficacy of Ferric Carboxymaltose in Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) Patients With Iron Deficiency...

Malignant Neoplasms of Mesothelial and Soft TissueGastrointestinal Stromal Tumor With Neurogenic Differentiation

The goal of this clinical research study is to compare Injectafer® (ferric carboxymaltose) with an iron supplement to learn which may be more effective in improving red blood cell counts in patients who have iron-deficiency anemia (a low red blood cell count) because of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) and/or systemic therapy. The safety of ferric carboxymaltose will also be studied. This is an investigational study. Ferric carboxymaltose is FDA approved and commercially available to treat iron deficiency anemia; however, it is considered investigational to use in patients who have cancer-related or systemic therapy-related anemia. Up to 50 participants will take part in this study. All will be enrolled at MD Anderson.

Artificial Intelligence for Optimal Anemia Management in End-stage Renal Disease: The Anemia Control...

AnemiaEnd Stage Renal Disease

Fresenius Medical Care has developed a computer software programme called the Anaemia Control Management (ACM) software to assist in the anaemia management of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis. This trial is designed to assess the effectiveness of this ACM software on anaemia management in routine clinical practice. However, all ultimate decisions on therapeutic or diagnostic procedures, treatments, management of the disease, or resource utilisation will be at the discretion of the Investigator. The trial consists of a retrospective (historical) control period and a prospective (going forward) period. During the prospective period, the ACM will be used to assist the Investigators' decision making and will help the Investigators to administer a personalised intravenous (IV) iron and red blood cell stimulating agent (ESA) therapy, whereas treatment according to standard of care will be documented retrospectively for the same patients during the retrospective period of the trial. Thus, patients can serve as their own control.

Optimal Transfusion in Anaemic Cancer Patients Treated With Chemotherapy (HaemOPtimal)

CancerAnaemia

This an open two-arm interventional randomised feasibility study in anaemic patients treated with chemotherapy. Randomisation is performed between two transfusion thresholds: Haemoglobin < 6.0 mmol/l (9.9 g/dL) versus haemoglobin < 7.1 mmol/l (11.7 g/dL) for female and 8.1 mmol/l (13.4 g/dL) for males.Primary end-point is quality of life

Epoetin Alfa in Treating Patients With Anemia Who Are Undergoing Chemotherapy for Cancer

AnemiaFatigue2 more

RATIONALE: Epoetin alfa may cause the body to make more red blood cells. It is used to treat anemia caused by cancer and chemotherapy. It may also help relieve fatigue in patients with anemia. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well epoetin alfa works in treating patients with anemia who are undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.
