Assessment of an Anemia Model Predictive Controller for Anemia Management in Hemodialysis Patients...

End Stage Renal DiseaseRenal Anemia1 more

The purpose of this randomized, controlled pilot study is to evaluate the performance of this novel Anemia Controller (vis-à-vis standard of care) for anemia management in hemodialysis patients. Since the Anemia Controller is designed to bring patients to a pre-defined Hgb target level and keep them there, the target population for this study are patients whose Hgb levels are currently not well-controlled (rather than patients who are already relatively stable within the Hgb target range under a standard anemia management algorithm). Specifically, therefore, the target population for this clinical study are chronic hemodialysis patients who are exhibiting Hgb cycling.

Epoetin Alfa or Epoetin Beta With or Without Iron Infusion in Treating Anemia in Patients With Cancer...

AnemiaLeukemia4 more

RATIONALE: Epoetin alfa and epoetin beta may cause the body to make more red blood cells. Red blood cells contain iron that is needed to carry oxygen to the tissues. It is not yet known whether epoetin alfa or epoetin beta are more effective when given with or without iron infusion in treating anemia in patients with cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying epoetin alfa or epoetin beta to compare how well they work with or without iron infusion in treating anemia in patients with cancer.

Improvement of Fatigue Symptoms in the Iron Deficiency Anemia With Iron Succinylate Therapy

AnemiaIron-deficiency2 more

The treatment of anemia depends on its cause. Patients with underlying iron-deficient anemia should be treated or referred to a specialist (eg gynecologist, gastroenterologist) for treatment.deficiency anemia are global health problems and common medical conditions seen in everyday clinical practice. Iron is vital for biological functions, such as breathing, energy production, DNA synthesis, and cell proliferation. Iron deficiency refers to the reduction of iron stores and precedes the occurrence of iron deficiency anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is a more severe condition in which low levels of iron are associated with anemia and the presence of small cellular red blood cells.

A Study of Patients Treated With Erythropoietin Receptor Agonists for Anemia Who Developed Anti-erythropoietin...

Anemia

The purpose of this study is to assess the presence of anti erythropoietin antibodies (anti EPO Ab) in participants responding to any erythropoietin receptor agonist (ERA) therapy to treat or prevent anemia without loss of effectiveness to see if they will develop pure red cell aplasia or loss of effectiveness to recombinant erythropoietin and to measure the duration of effectiveness of ERA therapy.

Microcephaly, Fanconi Anemia and Praxial Disorders

Fanconi Anemia

Fanconi Anemia (FA) is mentioned in children with congenital malformations including kidney, hart and skeletal malformations (absence or abnormal thumb or forearm), and bone marrow failure or myelodysplasia with a progressive onset in childhood or adulthood. No study has focused on microcephaly, a reduction in brain volume, which is present in 20% of children, and its consequences on cognitive and structural level of the brain. Since 2014, Robert-Debré's team has been interested in this functional cognitive and neuroanatomical approach trough a National PHRC. Preliminary results carried out on 12 children show that their intellectual efficiency was in the normal range for age. However, we noticed a significant difference between abilities in comprehension and verbal reasoning corresponding to what is expected for age, and the sensorimotor skills or fine motor praxia significantly reduced. These difficulties, graphically penalizing for these children, are not always explained by a skeletal malformation of the upper limb, suggesting that musculo-tendinous anomalies may be associated. The objectives of our project are: 1) to identify upper limb musculo-tendinous abnormalities and their functional consequences, 2) to determine if these abnormalities could influence the somatosensory representation of the upper limb at the cerebral cortical level. This project should help us to better understand the fine motor disabilities or developmental coordination disorder of these children, which penalize their learning, and provide them with adapted solutions.

Preoperative Anemia Frequency

Preoperative Evaluation

In our retrospective study, it was aimed to determine the frequency of anemia in non-emergency patients over the age of 18 who applied to the Anesthesiology and Reanimation Department of our hospital.

Health Care Personnel Time for Anemia Management With Erythropoiesis Stimulating Agents in Hemodialysis...

Renal Anemia of Chronic Kidney Disease

This study is to document the time spent by health care personnel on anemia-related tasks, including preparation, distribution and administration of monopegylated epoetin beta (Mircera) or other erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) in patients with end stage renal disease in hemodialysis centers in Croatia. The total average time will be determined for the same number of patients on monopegylated epoetin beta and patients on other ESAs. In addition, qualitative information will be obtained on changes in practice patterns that may have occurred with the introduction of monopegylated epoetin beta.

Association of Anemia With Hospital Costs in Elective Colorectal Surgery

SurgerySurgical Blood Loss3 more

The objective is to measure the adjusted association between preoperative anemia and total hospital costs. We hypothesize that patients with anemia before surgery will have higher hospitalization costs than people without anemia.

Anemia in Non-celiac Wheat Sensitivity

Non-celiac Gluten SensitivityAnemia

In recent years, a new gluten- or wheat-related disease has emerged, a condition labelled "non-celiac gluten sensitivity" (NCGS) or "non-celiac wheat sensitivity" (NCWS). This is very often a self-reported condition, since patients refer to intestinal [mainly irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)-like] and/or extra-intestinal symptoms (i.e. fatigue, headache, anemia) caused by gluten or wheat ingestion, even though they do not suffer from celiac disease (CD) or wheat allergy (WA). Among the extra-intestinal symptoms, several studies have shown, in patients with NCWS, the presence of anemia, generally mild, often with iron or folate deficiency characteristics, but no research has ever been planned with the specific intention of analyze this particular aspect of the disease. Therefore, the aim of the present multicentric research was to analyze, both retrospectively and prospectively, the laboratory data of NCWS patients, compared to CD and IBS controls, to identify: a) the presence, severity and morphologic characteristic of anemia; 2) possible pathogenic mechanisms.

Statement of Care of Anemia in Delivering Patients at Nord Franche-Comte Hospital

Pregnancy Anemia

Anemia is a common pregnancy condition that has multiple origins. Its frequency and severity seem to be increasing, despite the existing management recommendations and the awareness of health professionals. The objective of this study is to make a statement of this pathology within our establishment, to evaluate the proportion of patients presenting this pathology and to highlight possible risk factors.
