Comparative Results of Conservatively and Surgically Treated Adolescents With Triplane and Juvenile...

Ankle Injuries

Triplane and Juvenile Tillaux fractures of the ankle are well known in adolescent pediatric population. It is widely accepted, that optimal treatment for displaced fractures is close or open reduction and fixation with screws under general anesthesia and under intraoperative fluoroscopy control. Usually a small degree of displacement (up to 2mm) is expected to be healed without any sequences. Until now, no evidence of ankle function and pain after skeletal maturity or long follow-up was published. More than that, no comparative study between operative and no operative treatment of mild and borderline displaced fractures were published. The purpose of this study is to evaluate functional and radiographic results of operatively and conservatively treated patients after they reach skeletal maturity.

3D Printed Guide in Ankle Arthrodesis

Ankle Injuries

This study applies 3D-printed customized guide plate in assisting the accurate drilling of Kirschner wire in ankle arthrodesis. This technique can shorten the operation time, reduce the intra-operative radiation, and do not affect the surgical outcome.

Staple Versus Suture Closure for Foot and Ankle Surgery

IncisionFoot Ankle Injuries

This study aims to determine if staples or sutures are better for the closure of uncomplicated foot and ankle surgeries. Currently, most surgeons base their choice for closure on previous teaching from a mentor during fellowship or personal experience. There is no standard of care for closure material on hand surgeries to date. This study will prospectively randomize patients to have either staple or suture wound closure if they have a short incision. In surgeries with longer incisions (i.e. 5+ cm), or multiple incisions on similar sites (i.e. bilateral operations, multiple toes), patients will have half sutures and half staple closure. The three primary measured outcomes will be: pain upon suture/staple removal, time to place and remove sutures vs. staples, and scar formation.

Urdu Version of Identification of Functional Ankle Instability Questionnaire

Ankle SprainsInstability1 more

Functional instability should be considered as a potential cause of residual ankle impairment and instability. Even if neuromuscular anomalies are detected, the precise cause of injury and the most efficient prevention strategies remain uncertain. The use of standardized and validated research instruments is strongly advocated. This is due in part to the idea that it allows for international and cross-national comparison of results. Another assumption is that utilizing validated tools increases confidence that they are measuring what they are intended to measure. However, a previously validated tool does not guarantee its applicability in a new period, culture, or setting. The rationale of study is to provide a valid and reliable tool translated into native language of Urdu speaking populations so that self-evaluation of ankle instability can be assessed and re-assessed over the time. The questionnaire is translated into various languages including; French, Japanese, Brazilian, Persian, Thai, Malay, Greek, Chinese, Korean, Turkish and Spanish; whereas, Pakistani Urdu version has not yet studied. The present study fills this literature gap and serves a large proportion of Urdu community around the globe; specially, Pakistan. By measuring the psychometric properties of this scale in Urdu version, quantitatively strengthens up the evidence and patients themselves can report their exact level of disorder by answering a set of questions in their own language.

Translation and Reliability of FAAM-U

Foot InjuriesAnkle Injuries

This study is designed to translate and validate the FAAM questionnaire to the Urdu language, to interpret its psychometric properties, and to determine the reliability of scores obtained from the population of Pakistan. The translated version of the gold standard tool will be used by the local population as well as Urdu-speaking immigrants across the globe to better understand and report the severity of their symptoms. Hence, to improve quality of life across cultures, there is a need of standard outcome measures in Urdu language.
