ACL TearACL - Anterior Cruciate Ligament Deficiency

This prospectively study aims to evaluate the evolution of knee joint proprioception on isokinetic dynamometer before and after Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction and its relationships with muscle strength, self reported questionnaire and return to sport. This study will include 30 athletes with isolated ACL rupture, and treated with ACL reconstruction surgery and 15 healthy volunteers.

Most athletes who undergo Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction (ACLR) plan to return to some level of sporting (RTS) activity. However, rates of return to pre-injury sport are often less than might be expected and many factors influence whether individuals return to sport after this surgery. This study aims to better understand the role of meniscal lesions in RTS and to assess the advantage of the integrated evaluation with clinical, biomechanical and psychological tests to decide the correct RTS timing in non-professional athletes undergoing ACLR.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture

Actually, there are several laximeters for measuring anterior tibial translational in case of anterior cruciate ligament rupture. The most commonly used are telos, KT-1000, GnrB and Rolimeter. Results of these instrumented tests, which expressed in differential (millimeters values), have a bad correlation between them and so are not comparable in current literature. The aim of this study was to compare results of these tests and establish a ratio (pathologic knee laxity/ healthy knee laxity) to reduce differences between each instrumented test.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is one of the most common sports-related knee injuries. Because it is such a significant injury - requiring a long period of rehabilitation before the injured person is ready to return to physical activity, the burden of injury is high. This can help to explain why so much of orthopaedic research is devoted to evaluating the outcomes of ACL injury. However, while there has been extensive study of short-term (up to 5 years after injury) outcomes, few studies have followed patients beyond 15 years after their ACL injury. This is important because long-term follow-up can provide key insights to guide the information provided to newly injured patients (e.g. to help set realistic expectations of what the injured person can expect of their knee function in the future), and help us evaluate the efficacy of previous treatments. The primary aim is to assess the influence of an acute ACL injury on knee function and quality of life, 32-37 years after the index injury. Approximately 300 patients injured between 1980 and 1985 will be invited to participate in the study. Patient- and clinician-reported outcomes, and radiographic osteoarthritis will be evaluated.

To examine isometric muscle strength of ACLR patients at discharge from rehabilitation. The Objective is to study two groups of patients undergoing double loop hamstring autograft ACL reconstruction and compare between the two tibial fixation devices: the tapered Deltascrew and the Intrafix screw and sheath .
