Effect of Trait Anxiety in Women on Oral Health Status and Oral Health Care-Seeking Behavior
Anxiety DisordersOral Disease12 moreTrait anxiety is the tendency of an individual to perceive environmental stimuli such as different events and situations as threatening; it's stable and reflects how an individual generally feels. In 2015, it was estimated that 3.6% of the population lived with anxiety disorders globally, i.e. approximately 264 million people lived with anxiety disorders worldwide of which 31.36 million resided in the Eastern Mediterranean region, that's to say, 10% of the global number of anxiety cases. Moreover, females were more affected than males in a proportion of 4.6% as opposed to 2.6% respectively. The prevalence of anxiety has increased by 14.9% from 2005 to 2015. In addition, in 2017, approximately 42 million new cases were recorded globally. In Egypt, the total number of anxiety cases were more than 3 million in 2015 thus indicating that 4.2% of the total population lived with anxiety. Anxiety may affect the individual's utilization of dental services and predispose to a delay in seeking dental treatment and thus might compromise the overall oral health. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate the effect of trait anxiety on the oral health status of women and determine their behavior towards the utilization of dental services. To our knowledge, no previous research has been conducted to assess such relationship in Egypt.
The Effect of Nurses' Having COVID-19 on Their Professional Lives
StigmaSocial1 moreBackground: Since the first day of the epidemic, people diagnosed with COVID-19 and their relatives, some countries and groups such as healthcare professionals are exposed to discriminatory behavior and stigmatization in the world. Nurses fighting in the front lines from the very beginning of the epidemic and interacting with the patient the most experience anxiety and are exposed to stigma. Aim: With this study, it was aimed to determine the stigma, anxiety and wise awareness levels of nurses in our country according to their COVID-19 experience and to determine their effect on their professional lives. Methods: The universe of this case-control study, which will determine the level of stigma, anxiety and wise awareness of those who work as nurses in the clinic according to their COVID-19 passing status, is the universe of T.C. Nurses working at Ministry of Health Health Sciences University Bursa Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital Internal and Surgical Clinics (N: 756). The sample calculation of the research was calculated using the sampling method with known universe. The minimum number of people in the sample was calculated as (n) 354 when 1% error and 99% confidence interval were taken with the Raosoft sampling method. It was planned to reach the total number of nurses selected from internal and surgical clinics by using simple random sampling method and to collect data from these clinics between 15.05.2021 - 15.06.2021. In this study, socio-demographic information and questions about COVID-19, the Effect of COVID-19 Pandemic on Professional Life, "Coronavirus Anxiety Scale" and Toronto Wisdom Awareness Scale will be used in this study.
Analgesic and Anxiety Efficacy of Preemptive Pregabalin
AnalgesiaAnxiety1 moreEffective postoperative pain control after arthroscopic shoulder surgery optimizes postoperative rehabilitation, reduces anxiety, and can increase patient satisfaction and postoperative healing by providing amnesia and sedation. Few literature is available for postoperative pain management, including intra-articular local anesthetic infiltration, regional nerve blocks, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) with intravenous opioid, and oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and gabapentinoid drugs. Recently, gabapentinoides such as pregabalin have also shown to have potential in the treatment of acute postoperative pain as part of multimodal analgesia, due to their possible opioid consumption-reducing effects and prevention of post-surgical chronic pain. Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant drug that reduces calcium entry into the nerve terminals of the central nerve and also reduces levels of substance P, glutamate and noradrenaline, all of which play a major role in creating a feeling of pain. It is well known that pregabalin reduces central sensitization and hyperalgesia after tissue injury by inhibiting calcium influx in voltage-gated calcium channels. These theoretical advantages have led to clinical trials to confirm the analgesic effectiveness of oral pregabalin for postoperative pain management in various surgical procedures.

An Examination of the Effects of Health-related Internet Use in Individuals With Pathological Health...
Health AnxietyThe purpose of the current explorative study is to examine the effects of health-related internet use in individuals with pathological health anxiety using ambulatory assessment. In a naturalistic setting participants answer over a seven-day period questionnaires about their health-related internet use and its effects on affect, health anxiety and symptom severity in their usual daily lives.
Comorbidity Between Balance and Childhood Anxiety
AnxietyPrevious studies report frequent comorbidity of anxiety and sensory-motor imbalance in adults (Sklare et al., 2001). Only a few studies tested the comorbidity in children. We confirmed that: a) children with primary diagnosis of poor balance demonstrate an elevated anxiety level (Brat et al., 2006, submitted) and, b) children with primary diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder demonstrate poor balance performance (Erez et al., 2004). These studies demonstrate the presence of balance-anxiety comorbidity in children with primary disorder of either balance or anxiety. Our theoretical reasoning formalized under the "three stage theory of learning" points to the possibility that poor balance may either predispose or cause the emergence of anxiety disorder (Erez et al., 2004). Thus, in the present study we test two predictions: (a) high prevalence of comorbidity of anxiety and balance disorders in children with a primary diagnosis of generalized or separation anxiety disorder, and, (b) intensive balance training, but not training of flexibility and power, will reduce the level of anxiety in children with primary diagnosis of anxiety.
Does Anxiety in Children on the Day of Surgery Impact Compliance in the Ophthalmology Clinic?
AnxietyStrabismus1 moreThe hypothesis is that pediatric patients with increased levels of anxiety on the day of surgery, in particular at point of anesthetic induction, will demonstrate decreased compliance with assessment in ophthalmology clinic postoperatively.
Initial Severity and Antidepressant Efficacy for Anxiety Disorders: an Individual Patient Data Meta-analysis...
Anxiety DisordersPanic Disorder4 moreAnxiety disorders are common disorders, which pose a major burden to society and the individual. An anxiety disorder may be treated with medication, in particular with antidepressants such as the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). However, much of what is known about antidepressants is derived from research in depression rather than anxiety. In recent years, researchers have found that antidepressants are more effective for severely depressed patients than they are for patients with milder symptoms. It is possible that a similar relationship between symptom severity and antidepressant efficacy exists for anxiety disorders, but there is currently little evidence available to answer this question. As antidepressants are frequently prescribed to patients with mild or moderate anxiety, a clear understanding of their effectiveness across the severity range is vital to inform treatment decisions. Therefore, the purpose of this meta-analysis is to examine whether initial symptom severity affects antidepressant efficacy for anxiety disorders.
Registry for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease With Anxiety and Depression in China
COPDAnxiety1 moreAnxiety and depression are common comorbidities of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the exact prevalence is not known in China. COPD patients with anxiety and depression tend to have more severe symptoms and worse prognosis, but the related evidences are not strong enough. The study aim to investigate the prevalence and long-term outcome of anxiety and depression in COPD.
