Aortic stiffness is an important imaging biomarker of vascular aging. The ascending aorta is the most elastic segment, and it is excluded by reference non-invasive method carotid to femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV). We propose to use laser-doppler vibrometry (LDV) to record superficial vibrations generated by cardiac activity and arterial pulses for measuring heart carotid PWV, a surrogate for ascending aorta. The trial aims to demonstrate the equivalence between heart-carotid PWV made by laser-doppler vibrometry (LDV) with the reference MRI measurement (4D-FLOW MRI). As secondary objectives, A) we aim to assess the reproducibility of LDV, compared with MRI, B) show that aortic stiffness measured by LDV fulfils international recommendations, C) to study the association between PWV and age or other cardiovascular risk factors, D) assess the acceptability of the measurement. For this, we include 100 consecutive patients, 50 women, 50 men, scheduled for clinically indicated thoracic aorta MRI.

This is an intersectional and interdisciplinary screening program in Viborg Municipality, including 67 years old citizens. This observational study will estimate the cost-effectiveness of a combined screening program for the following conditions: Abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial disease, carotid plaque, hypertension, arrhythmia, and type-2-diabetes. Furthermore, the incidence of the outlined conditions will be described and so will the result of the intervention initiated (secondary medical prophylaxis, smoking cessation, introduction to nutritionally deficient diet etc.)

Multicenter US registry study to assess procedure success and long-term (10-year) performance of the HAART 200 and HAART 300 Aortic Annuloplasty Devices when used during aortic valve repair in a routine cardiovascular practice setting.

Physicomechanic properties of the aortic wall assure continuous and homogenous blood flow distribution to organs. The physicomechanic properties of the aortic wall are heterotopic: The collagen/elastin ratio doubles in the abdominal aorta as compared to the thoracic aorta. Malfunction of aortic conduction due to large artery stiffening (LAS) leads to premature wave reflection and excess pulsatility which translate into organ damage in low-resistance beds. The regional heterogeneity of aortic physicomechanic properties and their histomorphological substrate leading to altered regional hemodynamics are not well investigated. Within the PHaRAo population, there is a spectrum of higher and lower risk patients. The aim of this cohort study is to collect prospectively and systematically clinical research data from PHaRAo patients. The main objective of this study is to utilize Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) to determine tissue stiffness of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). For patients with AAA, MRE is a more sensitive and superior method of determining the risk for rupture of AAA based on stiffness estimates when compared to the current, crude method of assessing risk based on measurement of the diameter of the aneurysm. The investigators will also validate the stiffness estimates against gold standard i.e. mechanical testing and histopathology only AAA patients undergoing AAA surgery.

The goal of this project is to establish a biobank of clinical information, DNA, plasma, and aortic tissue samples from patients with cardiovascular disease as well as healthy controls.

The Montalcino Aortic Consortium (MAC) will provide the infrastructure to assemble large cohorts of patients with mutations in known heritable thoracic aortic disease (H-TAD) genes, define the phenotype associated with these genes, and determine genetic and environmental modifiers of H-TAD.
