Origin of Premature Atrial Beats Induced by Simulated Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Atrial FibrillationSleep Apnea2 moreThere is accumulating evidence for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) as an independent risk factor for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and for high recurrence rates of atrial fibrillation after ablation therapy. We have previously shown that simulated OSA triggers premature atrial beats (PABs) by acute changes in intra-thoracic pressure. Most episodes of atrial fibrillation are initiated by PABs. However, the origin of PABs induced by intra-thoracic pressure swings is unknown. This study investigates the origin of premature atrial beats induced by intra-thoracic pressure changes that simulate obstructive sleep apnea in patients with atrial fibrillation.
Correlation Between Serum Uric Acid and Pulmonary Hypertension in Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome...
Obstructive Sleep ApneaThis study aimed to correlate serum uric acid levels and PAH in OSAHS patients.
Opioid Safety Program in Pain Clinics (Op-Safe):
Sleep Disordered BreathingIn this vital study, the investigators will develop an innovative Opioid Safety (Op-Safe) Program for use in pain clinics. The Op-Safe Program consists of two key components: Educating patients with an informative brochure and video developed by the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) Canada, and a screening algorithm to identify unrecognized sleep apnea in patients taking opioids for chronic non-cancer pain.
Natural Sleep and Drug-induced Sleep Endoscopy
Obstructive Sleep ApneaDrug induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) has been performed worldwide since 1991 to determine the site and configuration of upper airway obstruction in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, there are no studies comparing DISE to sleep endoscopy during natural sleep. Objectives: To compare DISE to natural sleep endoscopy in OSA patients referred for surgical treatment. Methods: OSA patients referred to surgical treatment (lateral pharyngoplasty) will be enrolled in this study. Natural sleep endoscopy will be performed at the sleep lab during the night. Propofol induced sleep will be performed at the operating room before surgery. The VOTE (velum, oropharyngeal lateral walls, tongue base and epiglottis) classification will be used to compare site and configuration of collapse between studies. Peak inspiratory flow will also be compared between studies.
L-carnitine for Reducing Cardio-metabolic Risk in Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive Sleep ApneaThe investigators designed this intervention to investigate the potential role of L-C in lipid and carbohydrates metabolism (primary outcome) with precision noninvasively measurement of: central blood pressure, pulse wave velocity and peripheral arterial stiffness (secondary outcome) in OSA patients.
Short Life Agents in Balanced Anesthesia on Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome
Sleep Apnea SyndromesSleep Apnea1 moreThe investigators aim to assess the respiratory effect of short half-life agents in balanced anesthesia on patients suffering from non-treated or suspected obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) We will study the impact on OSA of a regimen of remifentanil-desflurane versus a regimen of fentanyl-sevoflurane. Each patient will undergo three respiratory portable polygraphies: the night before the surgery ; the first night following the surgery ; the third night following the surgery.
Validation of the Peripheral Arterial Tone to Detect Sleep-disordered Breathing in Patients With...
Sleep-Disordered BreathingA prospective validation study: Level I-full night-polysomnography (PSG) versus a diagnostic device with measurement of the peripheral arterial tone (PAT) of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and sleep-disordered breathing (SDB).
Pitolisant (BF2.649) in the Treatment of Excessive Daytime Sleepiness in Patients With Obstructive...
Excessive Daytime SleepinessObstructive Sleep ApneaThe first objective of this study is to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of pitolisant given at 10, 20, or 40 mg per day versus placebo during 12 weeks of the Double Blind period, to treat the Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS) in patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) refusing the nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (nCPAP) therapy or treated by nCPAP but still complaining of EDS. The secondary objectives of the study include assessing the long-term tolerance as well as the maintenance of efficacy of pitolisant given at 10, 20 or 40 mg per day during 39 weeks of Open Label Extension period.
Prevention Of Delirium in Elderly With Obstructive Sleep Apnea (PODESA)
Sleep ApneaDelirium is a common complication in elderly patients following surgery. Patients who develop delirium after surgery are at increased risk for serious complications, and even death. This multi-centre randomized controlled trial will enroll elderly patients scheduled for elective hip/knee replacement surgery. The objective of this trial is to identify obstructive sleep apnea using ApneaLink Air and to determine whether auto-titrating CPAP treatment of obstructive sleep apnea will decrease the incidence of post-operative delirium in elderly patients undergoing elective hip and knee replacement surgery.
Home Study of Subjects Who Have Completed a Previous Continuous Negative External Pressure (cNEP)...
Obstructive Sleep ApneaThis study is designed to determine whether subjects who were responders to cNEP during an overnight sleep lab titration in a previous clinical trial, Study SOM-012, will maintain a response throughout the night for up to two weeks in a home setting. It will also be determined whether two weeks of home use of cNEP is associated with any adverse events.
