Sleep apnea syndrome is common and increases with age. In the elderly, symptoms might be different than in the youngest people, and its consequences might be severe and atypical (falls, functional and cognitive decline). Today, there is no specific tool to detect sleep apnea in the elderly. The goal of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of oximetry for detection of respiratory disturbances in sleep apnea in the hospitalized elderly.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the most commonly used treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. Nasal symptoms such as dryness, itching and congestion are common in CPAP users. Nasal and sinus saline irrigation has been shown to improve these symptoms in individuals with chronic nasal congestion and sinusitis. This is an 8 week study that investigates whether daily saline nasal and sinus irrigation reduces nasal symptoms in patients using CPAP, improves quality of life and CPAP compliance.

Feasibility Study of Sleep Endoscopy Under Hypnosis in a Sleep Center

It is proposed to induce in a obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patient, a hypnotic trance leading to intense muscle relaxation, capable of reproducing in the upper airways (VAS) the muscle relaxation observed in sleep, at the origin of obstructive apnea and snoring. The collapsibility type obtained, classified according to Kezirian, will allow specific management by OAM in the event of predominant anteroposterior stenosis. There are no risks fort the patient. The Drug Induce Sleep endoscopy (DISE) is a fibroscopy of upper aerodigestive tract.

Sleep disordered breathing (SDB) during pregnancy is a modifiable risk factor for poor maternal and fetal outcomes. The investigators propose a prospective observational study to assess the utility of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) administration (intervention) during pregnancy to reduce maternal and fetal morbidity. Secondarily, we will also perform a cohort study to assess the incidence of antenatal sleep-disordered breathing as measured by ambulatory sleep monitoring applied in the hospital setting.

Echocardiographic Parameter and Sleep Apnea Changes After Mitral Valve Surgery

The investigators evaluate the changes of echocardiographic and sleep apnea parameters after mitral valve surgery. The patients undergo echocardiographic and sleep apnea control before surgery. After a period of 3-5 months, they undergo a second echocardiographic and sleep apnea control and the results are evaluated.

Prevalence of Acromegaly in a Diagnostic Consultation for Sleep Apnea Syndrome

Sleep Apnea Syndrome

Prevalence of sleep apnea syndrome in patients with acromegaly is about 70%. It seems that comorbidities of arterial hypertension or type 2 diabetes are more severe in patients with acromegaly and sleep apnea syndrome. Besides sleep apnea syndrome associated to acromegaly gives rise to few symptoms, that explains it is under diagnosed. The mechanisms of the association are based on maxillofacial modifications linked to acromegaly, a thickening of soft tissues with deposits of glyco-aminoglycanes but probably also because of the associated obesity, of the potential existence of a goiter and a muscular dystrophy of the dilatative muscles of the pharynx. At present, no study clearly documented prevalence of acromegaly in a diagnostic consultation for sleep apnea syndrome.
