Gadofosveset Trisodium for Heart Imaging Studies

Obstructive Coronary Artery DiseaseCoronary Arteriosclerosis1 more

Background: - Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is type of imaging study that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to take pictures of the body. To help the images show up more clearly, a contrast agent is injected into a vein. Researchers are interested in finding contrast agents that can help show problems with the blood vessels around the heart. They want to test an agent called Gadofosveset Trisodium to see how it works in MRI scans. Objectives: - To test the effectiveness of Gadofosveset Trisodium as a contrast agent in heart MRI scans. Eligibility: - Healthy volunteers between 18 and 45 years of age. Design: Participants will be screened with a physical exam and medical history. They will provide blood samples before the scanning sessions. Participants will have an MRI scan after the screening visit. They will have a dose of the contrast scan before the study. Participants will return for one additional MRI scan within 1 to 2 months of each scan. Different doses of the contrast agent will be used for each scan. An additional blood sample will be collected within 1 week of the second MRI scan.

Capturing Outcomes of Clinical Activities Performed by a Rounding Pharmacist Practising in a Team...

Heart FailureCongestive6 more

We, the researchers, propose to link a clinical pharmacist with an internal medicine or family medicine team to provide pharmaceutical care to all patients assigned to the team. The hypothesis is that through this team based approach, pharmacists will act as a resource for providing pharmacotherapeutic advice during the drug therapy decision making process and promote optimal drug use by identifying and resolving actual and potential drug related problems. This study is designed to test this hypothesis, by assessing the impact of this intervention on evidence based, quality of drug therapy indicators, for patients admitted with heart failure (HF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), community acquired pneumonia (CAP), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and stable coronary artery disease (CAD).

Apolipoprotein A-I Gene Polymorphism and Atherosclerosis

Coronary ArteriosclerosisCardiovascular Diseases2 more

To further define the linkage of the Apo A-I gene polymorphism to genetic high density lipoprotein (HDL) deficiency and premature coronary artery disease. Also, to utilize this gene marker to define the prevalence of genetic HDL deficiency in patients with premature coronary disease and to determine the relative risk of premature coronary disease associated with the Apo A-I gene polymorphism.

Androgens and Subclinical Atherosclerosis in Young Women - Ancillary to CARDIA

Cardiovascular DiseasesCoronary Arteriosclerosis2 more

To examine whether serum androgens, measured earlier in life, and variation in genes related to androgen synthesis, metabolism, and signaling are associated with early-onset subclinical coronary atherosclerosis in young adult women from the community.

Long Term Follow-up of Open Versus Endoscopic Radial Artery Harvest With CT Angiography

Arteriosclerosis of Arterial Coronary Artery Bypass Graft

The objectives of the study are two-fold: To determine the mean 5 year patency rate of the radial artery graft (Open vs. Endoscopic) of patients who have already had CABG surgery and who previously participated in the centre's RCT back in 2005-2007 using CTA and MPS-MIBI To determine patient quality of life at 5 years post CABG surgery It is hypothesized that the mean 5 year patency rate of the radial artery graft harvested endoscopically will be equal to or have greater patency than the radial artery graft harvested via the conventional/open technique. It is further hypothesized that patient quality of life will be similar amongst patients having had the open vs. endoscopic radial artery graft during CABG surgery.

Effects of Exercise Training on Left Ventricular Function in Type 2 Diabetic Patients Post Coronary...

Diabetes MellitusNon-Insulin-Dependent2 more

The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes of cardiorespiratory fitness and left ventricular function in type 2 diabetes after uncomplicated coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. We hypothesize that exercise capacity, left ventricular diastolic function, and biochemical data improves after 12-wk exercise training in patients with type 2 diabetes underwent CABG.

Sufficient Treatment of Peripheral Intervention by Cilostazol

Arteriosclerosis Obliterans

Recently, Nanto et al. reported that cilostazol effectively prevented restenosis in a retrospective analysis of 121 femoropopliteal artery lesions in percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) patients who had undergone PTA. In a prospective 3-year follow-up study in 127 patients with similar diseases, the patency rate was significantly higher in the cilostazol group than in the ticlopidine group. It was also found that cilostazol markedly inhibited restenosis during the first 1-year period following endovascular therapy when restenosis is most frequently observed. In addition, there have been sporadic reports that cilostazol was effective in preventing post-stenting restenosis in the coronary artery area. Based on these results, this multicenter study is going to be conducted to prospectively evaluate the usefulness of cilostazol in lower limb endovascular therapy.
