Ultrasound Guided Diagnostic Cervical Medial Branch Block

Facet Joint PainNeck Pain

The diagnostic cervical branch block for neck pain due to cervical facet joint pain has been traditionally done under fluoroscopic guidance. Its diagnostic value and technique have been well established. However, recently some studies have shown that the diagnostic cervical and lumbar medial branch block can be done under ultrasound guidance.

Observational Study to Evaluate Mechanisms of Aromatase Inhibitor Associated Musculoskeletal Symptoms...

Breast CancerArthralgia

Early stage hormone receptor positive breast cancer is typically treated with adjuvant endocrine therapy in order to decrease risk of breast cancer recurrence and to improve overall survival from the disease. Typical agents used for treatment include tamoxifen and the aromatase inhibitors. In postmenopausal women, aromatase inhibitor therapy is increasingly common because it is associated with fewer long-term serious toxicities compared to tamoxifen. However, aromatase inhibitors cause arthralgias in 40-50% of patients, which can influence adherence to therapy and can lead to treatment discontinuation in a minority of cases. The mechanism underlying development of this toxicity remains unclear, and predictors of who will develop these symptoms remain undefined. This observational study is designed to collect patient-reported outcomes and serial serum samples in order to investigate potential etiologies of this bothersome toxicity.

Sensory Mapping of Lumbar Facet Joint Pain

Chronic PainFacet Joint Pain

Low back pain is a major contributor to the chronic pain burden in the community. Although there are numerous pain generators in the spine, lumbar facet joints are one of the most common sources of pain. A variety of measures such as physiotherapy, oral analgesics and minimally invasive injections are used to treat lumbar facet joint pain. Facet joint steroid injections and radiofrequency denervations of the facet joint are the most commonly performed minimally invasive pain procedures for lumbar facet joint pain. Radiofrequency denervation is carried out by thermal lesioning of the medial branches that supply the facet joints. Conventionally two medial branches have been shown to innervate one facet joint and based on this, the norm is to lesion two nerves to denervate one facet joint. However, there is some variation in the nerve supply which may account for failure or false negative results of the diagnostic blocks. The aim of the present study is to explore the feasibility of sensory mapping, thereby referral pattern of the lumbar medial branches using suprathreshold stimulation and to correlate the referral patterns with painful areas in the back and leg. It will also test if the present method of lesioning two nerves to denervate one facet joint is appropriate.

the Relationship Between Parafunctional Habits, Pain and Functional Limitation of the Jaw

Temporomandibular DisorderPain1 more

Temporomandibular disorders affect the general health and quality of life of individuals by causing deterioration in orofacial function and cause functional limitation. The use of Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC-TMD) is recommended for evidence-based evaluation of jaw joint disorders for clinical and research purposes. The aim of this study is to show the factors affecting the functional limitation of the jaw and to evaluate the relationship between the pain, Oral Behavioral Checklist and the Jaw Functional Limitation Scale (JFLS-8), using the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC-TMD). 75 patients with temporomandibular disorder (TMD) who will apply to the outpatient clinic of Istanbul Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital will be included in our study. DC/TMD Axis I TMD Pain Screener Questionnaire, TMD Symptom Questionnaire, DC/TMD Axis II assessment tools 'Jaw Functional Limitation Scale-8 (JFLS-8) and Oral Behavioral Checklist (OBC) will be applied. In addition, demographic data will be questioned.

Association Between Hypermobility and Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain

HypermobilityJoint4 more

Study hypothesis:- Benign joint hyper mobility syndrome which persists into adulthood is a special type of benign joint hyper mobility which is more likely to predispose to chronic musculoskeletal pain. Young Indian adults aged between 25 and 40 years who are blood donors or relatives of patients admitted as inpatient or presenting to the out patient department, in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences will be enrolled, after excluding the exclusionary criteria. They will be assessed for the presence of chronic musculoskeletal pain using a validated self filled questionnaire. The primary investigator who will be blinded to their response will examine them for the presence of Benign Joint Hyper mobility Syndrome and for tender points suggestive of fibromyalgia. Primary Objective:- To determine whether chronic musculoskeletal pain is associated with Hypermobility among Indian adults. Study design:- Cross sectional survey
