A Study of the Feasibility of Using the Dietary Supplement "ARTNEO" in Patients With Osteoathritis...

OsteoarthritisKnee6 more

The goal of this clinical study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the properties that support the functional state of the joints and the safety of the dietary supplement for food ARTNEO®, oral capsules, in patients with stage II-III primary osteoarthritis of the knee joint. The main questions it aims to answer are: To evaluate the effectiveness of the joint functional state-supporting properties of dietary supplement ARTNEO®, capsules for oral administration, in patients with stage II-III primary osteoarthritis of the knee joint; To evaluate the safety of dietary supplement ARTNEO®, capsules for oral administration, in patients with stage II-III primary osteoarthritis of the knee joint. Participants will be randomly distributed equally among two groups: Group 1 "ARTNEO" (106 people): patients take the study dietary supplement ARTNEO®, 1 capsule 1 time per day for 6 months; Group 2 "Placebo" (106 people): patients take placebo 1 capsule 1 time per day for 6 months.

Psoas Sciatic Blockade for Knee Arthroplasty

Knee Osteoarthritis

Objectives: To compare the efficacy of continuous combined psoas sciatic block as a sole anaesthetic technique with conventional combined spinal epidural anesthesia for patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty. Subjects and Method: Eighty patients ASA (American society of anaesthesiologists classification) I to III with age range from 50 to 65 years old and scheduled for total knee replacement were included in the study. Subjects were divided into two groups; the first group (Pso/sci) received ultrasound guided with the use of nerve locator continuous psoas sciatic block and the second group (CSE) received combined spinal epidural anesthesia. Onset of sensory and motor block time, hemodynamic changes, contra-lateral spread, first time need for analgesia, incidence of complications, and patient and surgeon satisfactions were recorded.

Immediate Effects of Manual Therapy Versus TENS in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

Patients with knee Osteoarthritis have high prevalence of pain , requiring ever more precise interventions in their management. This study aims to investigate the immediate effects of manual therapy and TENS on pain in patients with knee Osteoarthritis. Knowledge of best interventions favors reducing spending on health and safety for the patient.

Management of Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis in Primary Health Care

Hip OsteoarthritisKnee Osteoarthritis

Previous research has shown that the osteoarthritis care for persons with hip or knee osteoarthritis in Norway has a potential for improvement as the provided care may not necessarily reflect evidence-based guideline recommendations. This study will determine if a new model for integrated osteoarthritis (OA) care in primary health care will result in improved quality of osteoarthritis care and health benefits for the patients (reduced pain and body weight, increased function and activity level) among patients with hip and/or knee osteoarthritis. Further, this study will examine if the new model reduce the number of unnecessary referrals to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and to orthopaedic surgeons in secondary care, and if it increases the number of referrals to physiotherapy treatment and the number of discharge reports from the physiotherapists to the referring general practitioner.

Pain Expectations in Subjects With Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis

The purpose of this research study is to test whether or not researchers can alter or change expectations on pain. The researchers will test whether there is an effect on the size of the pupil and responses to thermal heat temperatures in subjects with osteoarthritis of the knee or hip or healthy subjects for comparison. One of 3 possible treatment groups will be administered to qualifying subjects: (1) gabapentin, a medication that is commonly used to treat nerve pain, (2) modafinil, a medication that is commonly used to treat people with narcolepsy (a disorder that causes people to fall asleep) and (3) a placebo, which is an inactive substance, like a sugar pill, that is not thought to have any effect on your disease or condition

A Trial to Establish Realistic Patient Expectations of Total Knee Replacement

Osteoarthritis

Patients from the Joint Replacement Institute scheduled to undergo primary total knee replacement surgery (TKR) will be invited to participate at the Pre Admission Clinic (PAC), University Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre. Baseline questionnaires of preoperative measures and demographic information and a cost analysis will be explored at the PAC for each patient. Patients will be randomized with the treatment group receiving access to a web-based, e-learning intervention. Postoperatively all patients will be asked to complete questionnaires at 6 weeks, 3 months and 1 year after their TKR surgery. Objectives The first primary objective is to compare the effect of two methods of providing patient education on expectations of surgical outcome in total knee replacement (TKR) patients. The second objective is to compare the effect of two methods of providing patient education on satisfaction with surgical outcome in TKR patients. The intervention of interest is an e-learning education program that spans both the preoperative and postoperative time period. The control condition will be the current method of patient education provided at the hospital study site. Hypothesis: Objective One More change in patient expectations will occur between preoperative and one year postoperative in the e-learning educational intervention group. Hypothesis: Objective Two More change in patient satisfaction will occur between preoperative and one year postoperative in the e-learning educational intervention group.
