Knee Osteoarthritis, Kinesiophobia and Physical Activity

Fear of PainKnee Osteoarthritis1 more

Although the importance of regular physical activity in patients with knee osteoarthritis is known, and fear of movement is considered as one of the causes of physical inactivity and is widely researched in terms of its role in the pathogenesis of pain, there remains to be limited number of studies on kinesiophobia in these patients. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the levels of kinesiophobia and physical activity in patients with knee osteoarthritis and to investigate whether they were associated with demographic characteristics, body mass index, pain intensity, depression, disability, radiological grade, and quality of life.

Effects of a Structured Digital Osteoarthritis Self-management Program After 6 Months of Adherence...

OsteoarthritisKnee2 more

This is a study based on a cohort in a register of patients enrolled in a digital osteoarthritis self-management program, Joint Academy. The purpose of this study is to examine joint pain and the potential change of this pain, in patients with long-term adherence to a digital self-management program for individuals with knee- and hip osteoarthritis. The hypothesis, based on preliminary findings is that pain levels of those adhering to the program, decreases over time. To test the hypothesis, participants weekly pain report will be investigated whilst adhering to the digital program for 6- to 12 months, and statistically tests will be performed to find out whether significant differences can be seen over time.

Hip and Knee Scores

Hip OsteoarthritisKnee Osteoarthritis

Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are currently used for evaluating orthopaedic procedures. Nevertheless, there is no consensus in the different studies, making them difficult to compare . The score mapping (or cross walk) is a statistical model for estimating a score associated with an unmeasured score. Moreover , Minimal clinically important differences (MCID) is the smallest change in a treatment outcome that a patient would identify as important. The MCID is also not clearly identified for the French population for the hip and knee orthopaedic scores.

Standing Computed Tomography (SCT) Imaging of the Knee Joint

OsteoarthritisKnee

This study will help us decide the best way to image the knee for diagnostic purposes: Knee computed tomography vs knee x-ray. The computed tomography will provide a weight bearing 3D view.

Serum IL-17 Correlated With Inflammatory Changes in Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Osteoarthritis (OA)

The total number of the included subjects was 120 in 3 equal groups (RA, OA and control). All subject was subjected to serum IL17 level measurement. MSK US (of both wrists, MCPs, PIPs and DIPs) was done to all patients in RA and OA groups. Disease activity was measured by disease activity score (DAS28) for RA patients. Visual analogue scale for pain (VAS) was obtained from patients in RA and OA groups. Functional assessment was done using health assessment questionnaire (HAQ) for RA patients and the Australian/Canadian (AUSCAN) Osteoarthritis Hand Index for OA patients

Correlation of the Inflammatory Parameters With Pain and Radiological Findings in Coxarthrosis

OsteoarthritisHip2 more

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a functional disease with joint degeneration with subchondral and periosteal lesions. Coxarthrosis (or hip osteoarthritis) is an important cause of disability, especially in the advanced age group.Although hip osteoarthritis is often thought to be a non-inflammatory pathology, recent studies have shown that joint degeneration is correlated with the production of inflammatory factors and cartilage destroying enzymes. There are very few studies evaluating the correlation of Neutrophil lymphocyte ratio, monocyte lymphocyte ratio and Platelet lymphocyte ratio with inflammatory parameters CRP and ESR levels in hip osteoarthritis and its relation with the staging of hip osteoatritis.

Clinical Validation Study of Personalized Orthopedic Splints With 3D Technology in Patients With...

Osteoarthritis of the Small Joints of the Hand

Osteoarthritis of the hand is a chronic joint disease that usually affects one or more of the finger joints and it is a major cause of disability. Radiology and the Eaton-Littler classification (Stages I-II-III-IV) are used for its diagnosis. The treatment of stages I, II and in some cases of stage III, is based on pharmacological and rehabilitation measures, including the use of orthoses or splints. The development of Biosplint 3D will allow a qualitative leap forward in the search for an intelligent solution for patients with rhizarthrosis (Degenerative alteration of the trapezius-metacarpal joint (TMJ) characterized by a progressive deterioration of the articular surfaces and new bone formation in them). The aim of the study is to assess the feasibility of applying a personalized splint versus a conventional one. It is not a design aimed at evaluating the efficacy of such treatment. It is a prospective study with two arms, open with 1:1 allocation. The study includes a recruitment visit and two follow-up visits, one at a month and a final visit at 3 months. Patients with a new diagnosis of osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint are included. One group of patients wears the usual splint indicated by the personalized doctors of the Service and the other group wears the 3D bi-splint. The main variable is pain, which will be measured by a visual analog scale (VAS). In addition, the DASH questionnaire (Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand) and questions about patient satisfaction with the use of splints will be used.

Factors Predicting the Duration of Effectiveness of Viscosupplementation in Knee Arthosis

Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis is a frequent condition whose prevalence is estimated at 7.6% of the French population aged 40 to 75, or approximately 2 million individuals . Viscosupplementation (VS) is a symptomatic treatment of knee osteoarthritis recommended by a large number of learned societies. It consists of the intra-articular injection (IA) of hyaluronic acid (HA), to reduce knee pain by restoring normal joint homeostasis impaired by endogenous HA deficiency. The IA administration of HA can be performed using 2 protocols: repeated weekly injections (3, sometimes 5 injections) and single injections. To date and there is no argument to favor either protocol. Regardless of the formula used, the safety of HA is excellent (RR of adverse reaction versus saline = 1.01, 95% CI 0.96-1.07, P = 0.6). The indication for viscosupplementation is the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis after failure and / or intolerance of analgesics or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). In this indication, after HA injection the responder rate is in the order of 70% to 75% at 6 months and approximately 50% at 12 months. However, the predictors of the duration of effectiveness of SV are still unknown. The objective of the study is to research the factors influencing the duration of the effectiveness of SV, under real life conditions.

Osteo Arthritis KneePsychological Distress

The aim of our study is to identify the influence of preoperative pain (NRS pain score and EQ5D pain score) and higher levels of anxiety and depression (EQ5D anxiety/depression score) and their interaction before primary total knee arthroplasty on revision surgery for unexplained symptoms after primary surgery.
