Do Knee Injections Offer Benefit With Knee Arthritis Pain

Knee Osteoarthritis

Corticosteroid and viscosupplementation injections have been used for years to treat osteoarthritic pain in knees. Recent studies have varied in reporting the effectiveness with these injections. None have been found to analyze pain scores between the groups though. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of corticosteroid injection (a single injection of 1 cc of 40 mg kenalog: 4 cc 0.5% Naropin) and viscosupplementation injection (Euflexxa and Synvisc, both are 2 cc of the medication given in 3 injections over a 3 week period). This will be analyzed with a modified visual analog scale over a period of time. An initial VAS will be collected prior to the first injection in the clinic. With the viscosupplementation injections, a VAS will be collected prior to injections 2 and 3 as well. These VAS are logged in the patient's chart. For both types of injections, the participant will be called and a VAS will be recorded 6 weeks post injection and 3 month post injection. These VAS will NOT be logged in the participant's chart. All VAS will be collected/recorded by the principal investigator. Statistical analysis will be conducted with a paired t-test (p<0.05 with a confidence interval at 95%) from the pre-injection VAS and VAS subsequently.

Efficacy of Spearmint Tea in Relieving Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Osteoarthritis of the Knee

The purpose of this study is to investigate the benefits of daily consumption of a high rosmarinic acid spearmint tea, developed by the University of Guelph, on measures of pain, physical function and disease activity in osteoarthritis of the knee. The investigators hypothesize that a spearmint tea high in rosmarinic acid is efficacious in mitigating the symptoms of osteoarthritis of the knee through its actions in reducing cartilage degradation, oxidative stress and inflammation.

Descriptive Study in Patients Treated With Vimovo™, Including Registration of the Physicians' Prescribing...

OsteoarthritisRheumatoid Arthritis1 more

The most common pain-relievers used by patients with rheumatic disorders are called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These drugs are effective and well documented, but they can cause ulcers and gastrointestinal side effects. Vimovo™ is a tablet containing naproxen (NSAID) and a gastroprotective agent called esomeprazole. Patients with rheumatic disorders, who are at risk for developing gastrointestinal side effects, and where lower doses of naproxen or other NSAID treatment is not considered sufficient, could use this tablet. The regulatory authorities in many European countries have approved the use of Vimovo™, but they would like to understand how various factors influence the doctors' decision to prescribe the tablet and what is characterizing the patients receiving it. The aim of the study is to answer these questions.

10003 PRO Current Products

Osteoarthritis

This post-marketing investigation will evaluate the functional knee performance of Subjects who have undergone primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Data from Subjects who receive one of four contemporary knee configurations from different manufacturers will be pooled to establish a contemporary dataset. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the functional performance as measured by the activities of daily living (ADL) sub-score of the Knee Osteoarthritis Outcomes Score (KOOS) patient-reported outcome (PRO) questionnaire of primary TKA at minimum one year post-operation. This will be carried out for all four implant configurations. The final endpoint is a 2-year evaluation.
