Preventing Loss of Weight, Fat Free Mass and Activities of Daily Living
Hip FractureArthrosisMalnutrition of elder orthopaedic patients leads to weight loss and loss of fat free mass. Changes in the individual's nutritional status and body composition may adversely affect the patient's postoperative level of activity. Aim. Thus, the purpose of the present study is to report changes in postoperative weight, FFM and functions vital to daily living in a group of elder orthopaedic patients that were actively involved in their nutritional care during the hospital stay.
Effectiveness Study of Hylan G-F 20 to Preserve Cartilage in Osteoarthritis of the Knee
OsteoarthritisThat Hylan G-F 20 may act to protect cartilage from the expected degree of degradation over a 12 month period in subjects with moderate to marked osteoarthritis of the knee
TOKA: Custom Made Devices for High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) - Clinical Investigation
Unicompartmental Medial Knee OsteoarthritisThis preliminary pilot study is a single-centre, prospective, uncontrolled, 32-month study to assess the performance of personalised opening wedge High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) treatment using the TOKA® device and procedure. The medical device being examined is a custom-made device and therefore does not require a CE mark. Furthermore, the study will serve as a useful method of gathering clinical data and measuring device performance, as well as establishing a potential commercial relationship with the hospital administration. Study Objectives:: to assess the morphology of the knee joint and the improvement of OA following the TOKA® treatment. to Assess the functional outcome of the knee joint and the improvement of OA following the TOKA® treatment. Outcomes Evaluations:: The morphology of the knee joint is assessed by verifying the matching between the planned correction and the post-operative imaging results, along with the investigation of the maintenance of the desired correction at the follow-up meetings. These results are measured through the correction angle, hip-knee-ankle angle (HKA - mechanical axis), Mikulicz point (recorded as a percentage of the tibial width from the medial to the lateral region) and posterior slope, using the imaging techniques. The functional outcome of the knee joint is assessed by a) performing a gait analysis of the patients pre-operatively and post-operatively, b) the use of clinical scoring... .
Evaluation of Staple Watson Wrist Arthrodesis
Osteoarthritis WristWhen the wrist is damaged, for traumatic or degenerative reasons, the cartilage is worn out and the bones rub together: this is osteoarthritis. In order to stop this pain, it may be necessary to block these bones from each other, sacrificing mobility to achieve indolence. Multiple techniques are described according to the type of osteoarthritis and for each type of osteoarthritis itself, but the principle remains the same. The methods currently commonly proposed are the staple and the screwed plate. The aim of the study is to evaluate the surgical practice of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology department of the University Hospital of Rennes, and its long-term results, as this type of surgery is intended to be definitive.
The Effects of Home Use of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation on People With Knee OA and...
Knee Pain ChronicKnee OsteoarthritisThe purpose of the research is to see if the use of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) at home would reduce knee pain and swelling in people with knee OA and/or chronic knee pain.
Gait Analysis Following Knee Viscosupplementation
GaitKnee Osteoarthritis1 moreThis is a pilot, double-blind, randomised trial that investigates which gait parameters are more sensitive following a single bolus injection of hyaluronic acid with mannitol, hyaluronic acid with sorbitol, or saline placebo for knee osteoarthritis. Outcome measures are gait analysis through a inertial sensors (Physilog), Knee Society Score (KSS), University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) activity-scale and EuroQol 5Dimensions. Follow-up will be of 4 weeks.
Cooled RF Lesion MRI Characteristics
Arthritis;LumbosacralOsteo Arthritis Knee4 moreThis Prospective, Single-center, Pilot Study will assist in gaining an understanding of the actual CRFA lesions in an in vivo situation in areas where CRFA is utilized as a standard of care treatment option for the relief of chronic pain (cervical facet joints, thoracic facet joints, lumbar facet joints, Sacroiliac (SI) region, hip and knee).
Surgical Treatment for Trapeziometacarpal Osteoarthritis Eaton & Glickel Stage 4
Trapeziometacarpal OsteoarthritisThumb Carpometacarpal OsteoarthritisTrapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis is a common cause of pain and loss of hand function in postmenopausal women. Many surgical treatments have been described and recent literature has show that the relatively simple trapeziectomy gives equal results and less complications, when compared to other techniques such as ligament reconstructions and interpositions. These studies have been conducted predominantly in patients with stage 2 or 3 osteoarthritis. Stage 4 osteoarthritis is characterized by more cartilage and soft-tissue damage, which increases the chance for collapse of the first metacarpal bone and associated problems. The investigators' hypothesis is that an LRTI can be of additional value in patients with stage 4 osteoarthritis.
