Study on Costs and Effects of Waiting Time in Total Hip and Knee Replacements

OsteoarthritisHip2 more

The aim of this study is to compare the cost-effectiveness of major joint replacement in patients with short and non-fixed (control group) waiting time (WT). After being placed on the waiting list, patients will be randomized into two groups through regular contact with the practice staff: (1) Patients with non-fixed waiting time (patient undergoes hospital's normal procedure from the date (s)he is added to the waiting list to the date of operation), and (2) patients with short waiting time (operated in maximum three months). The main question is: is it possible to improve the cost-effectiveness of major joint replacement by shortening waiting time?

JOINTS Study - Joint Replacement Outcome in Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities and Nursing Treatment...

Osteoarthritis

What are the characteristics of joint replacement patients (DRGs 209 & 210) served in IRFs and SNFs? How are they similar or different? How are the interventions and processes of care for joint replacement patients different in IRFs and SNFs? What specific interventions or combinations of interventions in IRFs and SNFs make the biggest difference in outcomes for joint replacement patients taking into account patient differences? Which joint replacement patients do better in an IRF and which do better in a SNF? What is the relative cost-effectiveness of IRF and SNF care for joint replacement patients? Are comorbidities among joint replacement patients an adequate indicator of additional medical need during the rehabilitation process? Can a severity-of-illness measure serve as a better indicator of medical need? Are patients with greater medical needs served better in an IRF or a SNF? Can we design a more efficient course of rehabilitation interventions for joint replacement patients in IRFs and SNFs to reduce the length of stay and costs?

Joint Awareness After Total Knee Replacement

Knee OsteoarthritisArthroplasty Complications

Total knee replacement (TKR) is accepted as treatment of choice for end stage gonarthrosis. It is performed cemented or cementless and although cemented implants were shown to decrease bone density more than cementless fixations there is no evidence-based difference between them in the literature. As far as the investigators are concerned, the effect of cementation on patients' joint perception has never been studied so far.
