Safety Study of Memantine in Pediatric Patients With Autism, Asperger's Disorder or Pervasive Developmental...
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)Autism5 moreThe objective of this study is to evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of memantine in the treatment of pediatric patients with autism, Asperger's Disorder or Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS).
Memantine in Adult Autism Spectrum Disorder
AutismAsperger's Disorder1 moreThe purpose of this study is to see if memantine is helpful in managing problematic symptoms in adults with autism, Asperger's disorder, or Pervasive Developmental Disorder not otherwise specified (NOS).
A Folinic Acid Intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorders
Autism Spectrum DisorderAutistic Disorder3 moreResearchers at Arkansas Children's Hospital Research Institute are conducting a study looking at the effects of Folinic Acid on language in Autism Spectrum Disorder and language impairment. The study has 3 phases. Phase 1 confirms that your child has language impairment (there is no compensation for this visit). If language impairment is verified in the phase 1 screening, then your child will be eligible for phase 2. Phase 2 consists of receiving 12 weeks of folinic acid or an inactive placebo, in addition to several evaluations of your child's abilities and a single blood test. Children that complete phase 2 will be eligible for a 12 week open-label trial of folinic acid which is phase 3.
Genetic Contributions to Autism Spectrum Disorders
Autism Spectrum DisorderAutism2 moreThis study is working towards gaining a better understanding of the genetic and environmental factors involved in autism spectrum disorders (ASD), which includes autism, pervasive developmental disorder (PDD), and Asperger's syndrome. The investigators hope that information gained from this study will lead to new ways of diagnosing and treating ASDs.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Evaluation and Treatment of Repetetive Behaviors in Autism...
AutismAsperger Disorder1 moreThis study is a trial of low frequency Repetitive Transcranial magnetic stimulation( rTMS) for subjects with autism spectrum disorders, specially targeting repetitive behaviors.
Exposure-Focused Family-Based CBT for Youth With ASD and Comorbid Anxiety
AutismAsperger's Syndrome6 moreAutism spectrum disorders affect as many as 1 out of 88 children and are related to significant impairment in social, adaptive, and school functioning. Co-occurring conditions, such as anxiety, are common and may cause substantial distress and impairment beyond that caused by the autism diagnosis. Accordingly, we are proposing a randomized controlled trial to examine the effectiveness of a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy relative to treatment as usual (TAU) in 50 youth ages 6-12 with autism spectrum disorders and comorbid anxiety.
GroundsKeeper: A Qualitative Study of Applied Game-based Interactives in Special Education Programs...
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity DisorderAutism Spectrum Disorder2 moreThe purpose of this study is to examine the use of, and reaction to, one particular software application(GroundsKeeper) delivered on unique platform - Sifteo cubes (www.sifteo.com). The hypothesis is that the use of these devices will increase engagement, motivation, interest, and have perceived benefits to users with unique attention-limiting cognitive disabilities. How does the observation of and user feedback from gameplay reveal areas of improvement for the game, strengths, and perceptions of value among the players and adults?
Computer- Assisted Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment for Anxiety Disorders in Children With Autism...
AutismAsperger's Syndrome4 moreThis study will examine the efficacy of a computerized cognitive behavioral therapy (CCBT) program for children with anxiety and autism spectrum disorders.
Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment for Anxiety Disorders in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders...
AutismAsperger's Syndrome4 moreAutism spectrum disorders affect as many as 1 out of 150 children and are related to significant impairment in social, adaptive, and school functioning. Co-occurring conditions, such as anxiety, are common and may cause substantial distress and impairment beyond that caused by the autism diagnosis. Although effective interventions have been developed for typically developing youth with anxiety disorders, this approach needs to be adapted for children with autism. Accordingly, we are proposing a randomized controlled trial to examine the effectiveness of CBT relative to treatment as usual (TAU) in 46 youth ages 7-11 with autism spectrum disorders and comorbid anxiety disorder(s).
Study of Aripiprazole to Treat Children and Adolescents With Autism
Autistic DisorderAsperger Syndrome1 moreThe purpose of this open label study in children and adolescents is to examine the acute and long-term effects of aripiprazole on problem behaviors associated with autism spectrum disorders and development in areas which appear to be affected by autism spectrum disorders.
