Differentiation of Asthma/COPD Exacerbation and Stable State Using Automated Lung Sound Analysis...
AsthmaCOPDThis observational study evaluates whether lung sound analysis with LungPass device can be used to differentiate exacerbation and stable state asthma and COPD.
Prevalence and Characterisation of Asthma Patients According to Disease Severity in Portugal
AsthmaThis study aims to determine the prevalence of Asthma, Difficult-to-Treat and Severe Asthma in Portugal, and characterize patients to better understand their disease characteristics, treatment profile and health care resource use to improve clinical management of the disease.
Treatment With Mepolizumab on Patients With Severe Refractory Eosinophilic Asthma With or Without...
AsthmaNasal Polyps1 morePatients with severe or difficult-to-treat asthma represent a small amount of total asthmatic patients, but weight on the national health system for the costs of disease management. Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis, which the Italian severe/uncontrolled asthma registry reported with a prevalence of 30%, represents a comorbidity that significantly impact lung function and asthma control in severe asthma. Recent evidence indicates that there is a consistent heterogeneity regarding mucosal alterations present in subjects with nasal polyposis involving different pathways: inflammatory cells, remodeling, T cell activation, local IgE production, alteration induced by interactions between microorganisms and epithelial cells.
Detroit Young Adult Asthma Project
AsthmaThe purpose of the Detroit Young Adult Asthma Project is to test a technology based program to help African American young adults learn to better manage their asthma. Participants will be randomized to a multi-component technology-based intervention (MCTI) targeting asthma medication adherence or to a comparison control condition.
CHildhood ASthma and Environment Research Study - CHASER Study
Asthma"CHildhood ASthma and Environment Research study - CHASER study" is an observational longitudinal study in outpatient clinic of Pediatric Allergology & Pulmonology (PAP) of Respiratory Disease Research Center (RDRC) within the Institute of Biomedicine and Molecular Immunology (IBIM) of the National Research Council (CNR) of Palermo (RDRC-IBIM CNR), Italy. The first phase - transversal study will identify determinants of pediatric asthma control The second phase - longitudinal study, in patients with persistent asthma, will be focused on: predictors for asthma exacerbations and loss of control real life adherence to asthma therapy guidelines phenotypic characterization through the collection of saliva samples assessment of alterations and inflammatory changes in the nasal mucosa through nasal brushing evaluation of the presence of 8-isoprostane, nicotine, cotinine and bisphenol-A through urine analysis. Chaser Project is expected to improve the knowledge of pediatric asthma in patients with different level of control, identifying predictors for asthma exacerbations and loss of control.
Identification of Asthma Phenotypes in Severe Asthmatics
AsthmaAsthma is a heterogenous disease. Different patients have different presentations, course of disease and response to treatment. The investigators would like to study our population of more severe asthma and find out about their profile - demographic, clinical and inflammatory.
Sample Collections From the Airways of Asthmatic Patients
AsthmaFiberoptic bronchoscopy is a procedure which involves passing a pencil-thin tube into the lung in order to collect fluid and cells from the airways. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy can collect cells from the walls of airways by gently brushing them (bronchial brushing). In addition, squirting small amounts of sterile water in to the airway and gently suctioning it back into the bronchoscope (bronchoalveolar lavage) collects cells. In this study, researchers plan to perform these tests on patients with asthma and normal volunteers. This research may help to improve the understanding of the processes involved in airway inflammation and asthma.
Mechanisms for Dyspnea on Exertion in Children With Obesity and Asthma: Distinct Physiological Phenotypes...
Asthma in ChildrenDyspnea; Asthmatic2 moreThe overall objective of this study is to better understand the respiratory mechanisms provoking dyspnea on exertion in obese asthmatic children.
The Electronic Asthma Management System
AsthmaThis study is an extension of a pilot study in which investigators developed and tested a computerized tool to help physicians to determine if their patients' asthma is well controlled, advise them on medication changes required according to the current level of control, and automatically generate an electronic version of the AAP, all based on patient responses to a questionnaire completed by patients on a tablet computer. In this phase patients will have the ability to complete the questionnaire on their smartphones, through a pre-downloaded app and will have access to an electronic asthma self-management app.
Pharmaceutical Teleconsultation in Adults With Asthma
AsthmaThe investigators propose a pragmatic randomized clinical study, consisting of two groups, the control group with health education and the intervention group with teleconsultation. The research team comprises pharmacists, students, and professors who work in a pharmaceutical service of secondary health care linked to the public university. The investigators will conduct the study exclusively remotely, following the patients for six months. The research team will implement and structure an ambiance to adapt the face-to-face pharmaceutical consultation into the pharmaceutical teleconsultation. The evaluated outcomes, in both groups, will be the scores of the Asthma Control Test, the Asthma Quality of Life, and the hospitalization rate and admission to urgency/emergency services.
