Ugandan Non-Communicable Diseases and Aging Cohort

HIVCardiovascular Disease4 more

Longitudinal cohort study of older-aged people living with HIV infection in southwestern Uganda and age and gender-matched HIV uninfected controls with the primary aim of measuring the epidemiology of cardiovascular and pulmonary disease in this study setting, and particularly the contribution of HIV infection to it.

Coronary DiseaseMyocardial Infarction1 more

The purpose of this study is to compare optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans performed in the same coronary artery with two different OCT systems (Lunawave and OPTIS) before and after implantation of stents or bioresorbable scaffolds.

AtherosclerosisCarotid Stenosis

Classification of carotid plaque vessel wall changes in carotid stenosis accordingly to AHA classification (American Heart Association)- comparison between histology and CT. The CT is performed with a fast kVp-switching dual energy technique. To compare the ability to detect iodine contrast enhancement in the carotid plaque compared with 3T MRI with gadolinium.

Vascular Inflammation Stratified by Body Size Phenotype

AtherosclerosisObesity1 more

Vascular Inflammation is a key factor in both the pathogenesis and outcome of atherosclerosis. 18FDG-PET is a promising novel tool for identifying and quantifying vascular inflammation within atherosclerotic plaque Recently, unique subsets of obese individuals, such as metabolically obese but normal weight (MONW) and metabolically healthy obese (MHO), have been getting an attention Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the relationship of vascular inflammation, measured by FDG-PET, with various body sized phenotypes

Study to Gain Insights in Treatment Patterns and Outcomes in Patients With Atherosclerosis Prescribed...

Atherosclerosis

In this study researchers want to gain more information on treatment patterns of patients treated with Xarelto in combination with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). Both drugs reduce the risk of blood clots via different pathways. The study will enroll adult patients suffering from coronary artery disease (narrowing or blockage of vessels that supply the heart with blood) or peripheral artery disease (narrowing or blockage of vessels that supply the legs or head with blood). The study will focus on information on when and why physicians are starting to treat patients with Xarelto in addition to ASA, treatment duration, reasons to discontinue treatment and previous therapies. The study will also look into treatment outcomes for patients being treated with a combination of Xarelto and ASA by their physicians.

Autonomic Testing in Subclinical Carotid Atherosclerosis

Subclinical Carotid Atherosclerosis

Background: Atherosclerotic carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) may be associated with alterations in the sensitivity of carotid and subclavian baroreceptors. Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate if carotid IMT is associated with changes in the autonomic modulation of the heart rate variability (HRV). Methods: This is a prospective cross-sectional study. The carotid IMT is determined by B-mode and duplex ultrasonography. The cardiovagal function was determined through linear and nonlinear measures of HRV. Linear regression models, adjusted for demographics, comorbidities, body mass index, waist-hip-ratio, and left ventricular ejection fraction will be used to evaluate the association between HRV parameters and carotid IMT.

DPP4 Inhibitor and Coronary Atherosclerosis in Patients Receiving Insulin Therapy

Diabetes Mellitus

The study aim is to evaluate whether DPP4-inhibitor could reduce coronary atherosclerosis assessed by CT scan in patients receiving insulin for diabetes mellitus. In this retrospective study, changes in obstructive coronary artery disease prevalence and coronary calcium burden between two coronary CT scans will be compared in patients with and without receiving DPP4-inhibitor.

The Sakakibara Health Integrative Profile of Atherosclerotic-Carcinogenesis Hypothesis (SHIP-AC)...

CancersAtheroscleroses2 more

As previously reported (IJC Heart & Vasculature 2017; 17: 11.), our epidemiological analysis showing high incidence of cancers in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases as compared with those with non-atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases may imply a clinical possibility of a role of atherosclerosis in cancer developments. In the present study, to address our hypothesis that cancer developments may come with a strength of atherosclerosis, we traced an incidence of cancers in a total of 8,856 patients with coronary artery diseases (CAD) for a median follow-up of 1,095 days (interquartile range, 719-1,469 days) using the Sakakibara Health Integrative Profile (SHIP) database.
