Organization in Acute Atrial Fibrillation Post Open Heart Surgery

Atrial Fibrillation

A form of irregular heart rate called, Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is a major clinical problem. It afflicts about 2 million Americans and is the single largest heart related cause of stroke. However, despite 120 years of speculation and research, the mechanisms that cause AF are poorly understood. Acute AF is also the most common irregular heart rate after open-heart surgery in patients. This is seen in as many as 30% of such patients and often results in a longer hospital stay. In this study we would like to study the pattern of atrial fibrosis (scar tissue in the heart) and an associated blood marker (a protein called pro-collagen-1) in those patients concurrently having open heart surgery.

Impact of Left Atrial Function on Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial Fibrillation

We aimed to demonstrate the impact of left atrial functions which were evaluated by three different echocardiographic modalities , on postoperative atrial fibrillation.

Predictors of Anticoagulation Control on Warfarin Therapy

Atrial FibrillationDeep Vein Thrombosis1 more

The goal of this research study is to develop better dosing of anticoagulation medication in both Caucasian and African Americans through analysis of various genetic factors.

Evaluation of the Accuracy and Precision of the INRatio® Prothrombin Time (PT) Monitoring System...

Pulmonary EmbolismAtrial Fibrillation1 more

This is a multi-center study designed to evaluate the accuracy and precision of the INRatio® Prothrombin Time (PT) Monitoring System, utilizing the INRatio test strip newly designed for low sample volume and heparin insensitivity, when used by trained medical professionals for the quantitative determination of PT and International Normalized Ratio (INR) in fingerstick and venous whole blood from subjects on oral anticoagulation therapy (OAT). These results will be compared to those PT/INR results obtained on plasma from the same subjects as analyzed at a central laboratory with the Sysmex CA-560 System.

Biochemical Marker to Predict the Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation After Surgical Maze Procedure...

Atrial Fibrillation

The role of plasma NT-proBNP, hsCRP, TIMP-1(Tissue inhibitors of MetalloProteinase-1),TGF-b, MMP-3(Matrix MetalloProteinase-3), and pro-MMP-1 in predicting the recurrence of AF after surgical Maze procedure. The association of expression of CTGF, TGF-b, BNP, ANP, collagen-1, and collagen-3 in LA with the recurrence of AF after surgical Maze procedure.

Prediction and Detection of Occult Atrial Fibrillation in Patients After Acute Cryptogenic Stroke...

Cerebrovascular StrokeAtrial Fibrillation

PROACTIA is a prospective, event-driven observational study. It aims to propose a composite scoring system in order to evaluate the risk of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) in patients after acute cryptogenic stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA).

Anticoagulation

The present study will be conducted to assess the following research questions in real-life conditions in France: What are the patient and disease characteristics, comorbidities and treatment history in NVAF patients initiating a new Anticoagulant (AC) treatment, according to treatment currently available and prescribed (apixaban, other NOACs, VKAs), and are the AC-naive patient profiles different from one treatment pattern to another when initiating a new AC treatment? What are the HCP's reasons for discontinuing the previous AC strategy for initiating and choosing the newly initiated AC treatment in NVAF patients? What are the conditions of newly-initiated apixaban prescriptions in NVAF patients: prescriber, proportion of naïve/experienced patients, daily dosage and number of daily doses?

Atrial Fibrillation Patient Preference Study

Atrial Fibrillation

The main research question of this patient survey is to assess AF patients' preferences associated with different attributes which describe the different available anticoagulation treatment options (VKA or NOACs and, in case of NOACs, Apixaban, Dabigatran or Rivaroxaban). VKA (Waran®) will be compared to Rivaroxaban.

Venous ThrombosisPulmonary Embolism1 more

Many drug interactions with Warfarin are well documented in the literature, including interactions with a variety of antibiotics. However,in mamy cases it is difficult to predict when the interaction remains theoretical and when it becomes clinically significant and will be reflected in the individual patient. This study's aim is to identify and characterize related conditions (including comorbidities, laboratory test results and other parameters related to the patient)that might be predictors for drug interactions turning from theoretical to clinically significant.
