This study aims to assess the effectiveness of atomoxetine on psychosocial functioning and emotional well being of children and adolescents with ADHD and to evaluate whether and in what measure the presence of comorbid conditions (internalizing and externalizing disorders) influences atomoxetine's ability to improve the quality of life of ADHD subjects.

This study will compare two programs to see if they are helpful in preventing the use of substances in adolescents with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), or conduct disorder (CD). One of the programs involves working with adolescents and their parent(s) in their home. The other program involves working with adolescents and their parent(s) in an office setting.

The purpose of this NIMH-sponsored pilot study is to collect information on the efficacy and safety of drug treatments for children and adolescents who suffer from both ADHD and anxiety disorders. Specifically, the study will examine the benefits of the stimulant medication both alone and in combination with fluvoxamine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that has antianxiety effects. Young people aged 6 to 17 diagnosed with these co-occurring disorders may be eligible to participate.
